Even though the stealth genre isn't large Dishonored, Deus Ex: HR, and Mark of the Ninja have found success alongside the Metal Gears and Splinter Cells so I don't think the genre into itself would impede its ability to sell.I think it'd struggle to find any relevance in today's market.
To make it a home console game, it'd need to have a fair amount of resources plowed into it, and I just don't think it would make particularly large returns since as a name it would only be selling on nostalgia; and the genre of stealth action isn't particularly large at the moment outside of MGS.
It'd make a nice Vita game, especially since the PSP versions were so nicely handled, but again it's a matter of resources vs. returns (i.e. lower development costs for Vita, but much lower userbase to sell it to).
Then there's Bend themselves. They've shown themselves to be more than capable of making spin-offs of some of Sony's other franchises (Resistance; Uncharted) so I get the feeling they're going to be shoved on that for the foreseeable future.
I can't see it getting revived any time soon, but it would be a nice surprise if it was.
I do agree about the potential resource problem for Sony though with regards to these types of revivals. While I think it would only strengthen their portfolio of exclusives it does carry a larger degree of risk if it fails. So far their exclusives seem to have a decent success rate though given Infamous and Killzone's sales and it having a known nostalgia driven brand name can only plays to its favor.
Killer Instinct (and hopefully some more Rare properties) has shown to be something of a beacon for potential future revivals so hopefully that'll carry over a bit to Sony to try to revive some dead IP's.
