So Lollipop has ruined my Note 4 experience

Reading this thread makes me really want to switch to iPhone and iOS instead of choosing between Galaxy S6 and LG G4. All these problems sound just disgusting, but on the other hand I really wouldn't want to work with only 1 gig of RAM which the iPhone has got. I have had enough of that with my iPad 3 for the last 3 years.
iOS is a bigger clusterfuck.

Lollipop 5.0.2 works fine on my Xperia Z3C. My only complaint is the lack of rewind on the lock screen.

They changed that back on 5.1, praise the lord.

Have any of you with the Note 4 tried factory resetting? A lot of people on XDA and Android Forums are reporting success with that which makes it sound like OTA bugs.

If you think that's bad Samsung has been so shit with even deploying lollipop for Note 3, (at least in UK).
Its been released on so many countries since the beginning of the year, yet I believe it's only released on two networks here. I have an unbranded phone, so was expecting that first, but nope. I guess these networks paid for exclusivity. Nice to see where Samsungs priorities are when it comes between money or offering better experiences to your customers.

Anyway I just flashed it with the Poland version months ago and haven't regretted it. Its actually been the opposite for me, (though I mostly use stock stuff), battery life definitely seems better for me, boot time definitely faster and I see it also uses a lot less system RAM to boot. Only thing that's been annoying for me is how they've changed the mute function, why Google wanted to change a function people have liked for years is beyond me. Samsung did bring it back on an update, but problem is it disables notification LEDs and also stops my smartwatch from vibrating to notifications...so hoping that will be fixed soon.

Everything is buttery smooth and working properly. On Z1C 5.0.2.

Well I have two battery icons on lockscreen and notification panel but it's mainly because of Xposed. (I hate stock sony battery icon)

Oh, I'm kind of glad it's not just me then because Lolipop completely fucked up my LG G3. Lots of app crashing / general bugginess, my wifi disconnects all the time, the wireless data toggle doesn't work correctly, and leaving the gps on is begging for the phone to overheat.

I didn't have any of these problems before.

My galaxy S5 before Lollipop was amazing, now its just alright. I can't even re-organize my icons because every time I try Touchwiz crashes. I wish a fucking update would happen already. I want my phone back.

My only complaint with Lollipop on my Note 4 is why did the developers think it was a good idea to remove the mute option when holding the power button?

Lollipop turned my 2012 Nexus 7 into little more than a doorstop. I'm glad it hasn't been pushed to my Moto G yet - still on 4.4.4 which is fine by me.

I've tried some optimization app and to my surprise it did improve things.
Closed like 20 process running in background (mostly google stuff, i only have Yatse installed on my device) and it was much better afterwards

Really? Runs great on my OPO. How did it "ruin" it or make it run like "hot garbage"?

can't unlock the phone anymore with a bluetooth keyboard, removed tv-shut-off effect, apps start up much slower, audio modes are a mess, graphical glitches, slower animations...

I was in the "Lollipop Ruined My Note" camp but I just did a factory reset and now it's amazing again.

Battery life is even better than pre-Lollipop now.

Most of that hasn't applied to me at all, certainly haven't noticed slower app starts or any glitches but for animations just speed them up in dev options. I used 0.5x with kitkat as well.

I'm enjoying cm12 on the opo, myself.

Isn't it a pain in the ass to restore everything the way you want it, though? All your apps and contacts and settings and shit?

Not really. The contacts are all still there because the Google Overmind knows everything about you and the Apps are all available in a download list.

Settings have to be reset which is kind of a pain I suppose, but less so than having to CONSTANTLY charge my phone.

The only thing I would suggest, if you're going to do that, is to see if your individual apps require a back up.

I was kind of hoping that Samsung had cleaned their act with the Note 4, I have had so many issues with my Note 3, sometimes I feel like just throwing it in the garbage.

Unfortunately, there really isnt another phone with Stylus, Removable battery and SD Slot :(

The worst part is that you dont really find out about these issues until at least 6 months after the phones have been out, so its not like you can jump on the Note 5 at release.

How long until us rubes who don't root get that on flagship large-carrier phones? (HTC M8, Galaxy S5, etc)

Right now, I'm not a fan of anything that came with the update that I can see. The notifications are garish, other open apps list is unnecessarily 3D, we lose the "bounce" when over-scrolling (granted, I believe that was due to a Patent lawsuit), the lock screen notifications have a serious case of TMI or no-info with no middle ground, and the loss of media controls on the lock screen is maddening.

Ugh.

All my pics, games, apps, etc too much work.

It completely ruined my N5 experience to the point I just switched to IPhone. Its sad really , I enjoy the android experience better. But this happened to me twice when Android updates simply fuck the phone so much to the point its almost unusable.

Apps constantly crash, it won't let me change the notification sound (it will play the one I select for the first notification, then cycle through a couple of random sounds for the next few notifications, then back to default), wireless data connection issues, weird touchscreen issues (sometimes selects a random part of the screen instead of what I'm trying to select,) and the phone literally gets hot now... like hot enough to cause a 1st degree burn hot. I have to run it in low power mode now or the back of the phone heats the hell up and the area around the camera gets dangerously hot.

edit: Also, even when in priority mode, it still mutes my alarm at random. I set several within a few minutes so that at least one will actually go off.

Edit2: hot garbage

Is this using the "official" OPO release of CM12? I find these posts so odd and outside of my experience so far that I'm a little baffled.

Do you have the 64gb OPO?

Edit: Actually, my phone does get hot sometimes, but not nearly as bad as my old Galaxy Nexus used to.

Got my S6 yesterday and it is butter smooth. Not a single stutter or crash, and quick as I could hope for. I checked the software and it says 5.02, whilst my S5 is still 5.0. Here's hoping a software update brings the S5 back up to speed.

I've had a galaxy s5 since fall of last year and god damn it's a piece a shit. I switched because I was sick of how unresponsive my iPhone s4 became with the newer iOS updates, and I'm lucky if I can even check the fucking time on my android without it stuttering. Like seriously? Not sure if I even have Lollipop or not tbh. Definitely getting an iPhone when this one's time is up.

Damn I feel for all the people having problems.

Having literally zero issues on my HTC One M8 with 5.0.2 lollipop. Been a smooth ride so far, feels better than Kit Kat.

That might the usual samsung touchwiz skin bloat doing all that tbh if you haven't already rooted and got rid of it. Heard they improved it massively for S6. Also just hit up the about section to find out if you're on lollipop

Yep, the official CM12 update on the 64GB model. I don't know how to do custom ROMs... But I kind of want to learn now.

5.0 made my nexus 5 run like shit, but its running great again after the 5.1 update.

yeah the official update and 64GB's

Gets really hot for me too, and the notification light is also pretty confused about the new modes. I loved the old silent mode where the multicoloured light would still tell me what notification i had. Now the light barely does anything unless i have volume turned on.

I have no problems with the update on my Note 4. Though my Note 4 is just two or three weeks old so it didn't have that much stuff on it.

Moved my S5 back to Kit Kat and I couldn't be happier. The only thing I really miss is the added features to the notification bar and lockscreen integration, but I can live with trading that out for being able to leave more than a single app running at a time.

I was reading through the thread worried of falling victim to these bugs. I'm actually thinking of getting a Note 4 soon. Seems like it is the OS that is unoptimized and not the phone it self.
My GS3 died a couple of days ago. Decided to get the Note 4. I upgraded the firmware to 5.0.1 IIRC. I haven't had any major issues tbh. This phone is amazing. It also has the best screen I've ever seen. Netflix looks amazingly sharp. I cannot understand why. I've got a Nexus 9, I've compared screens and the Nexus 9 doesn't look like true HD. Looks like the footage is compressed or 720p. Even though I have more than enough download/upload for smooth streaming. Any ideas why?

Does Nexus 9 have an OLED display?

Sorry for the late reply. It has an LCD screen. I think it could be the PPI? Nexus 9 has 281 PPI.
Think it's the high PPI of the Note 4 combined with the smaller form factor as well as the screen being an OLED panel which results in a better image

Cross posting from another thread:

I have a S5. Just last week I started experiencing an where all my notifications in the notification bar stopped appearing.

I went to sounds/notifications and made sure the apps which I vitally need real time notifications from are turned on.

I use my phone for work email and now have to open the app and manually refresh for the email inbox to update.

Don't see anything else in settings that could be the cause.

Anyone know what's causing this? It's not just email, work and gmail, but also hangouts, text messages, whatsapp...etc.

Wondering if it's related to the lollipop upgrade. Factory reset?

Basically , Lollipop sucks. It has bricked my Z2. Can't send texts, restarts randomly, touchscreen freezes, absolute borkness.

Going to have to change my phone ASAP . . .

Ever since I got lollipop my htc one m8 has been soooooooo sloooooooowwww.

Freezes for a good minute or two occasionally. Restarts don't do nothing.

EDIT: I might factory reset. This is infuriating.
