so..Modern Warfare 2 (xbox360, PS3, PC)

this and uncharted 2 are easily my most anticipated games of the year.

No offense to KZ2, it was a good game, but the multiplayer was a big downer for me. I liked the campaign though.

COD4's multiplayer is just much more fun for me and my friends, I guess that's why we keep playing it. Although, the lag does suck at times, I still enjoy the game.

I thought a resident NeoGAF infinity ward said the standard boxart was fanmade. Looks identical to me.

I'm buying the steelbook edition myself.

360 only?
No. You can see packaging for both versions.

I think the "fanmade" box was the same minus the words call of duty...but yeah.

If it is around $130... I am highly considering getting it.

I think it might be $150, there is a pair of night vision goggles on Amazon for $75.

any multiplayer info/changes from COD4 announced yet?

Nah. I would expect a multiplayer blowout coinciding with a beta announcement sometime soon.

The COD 4 beta was announced at Microsoft's E3 Keynote in 2007, July 10th. The beta started on August 27th, the game released on November 6th. Who knows if they'll operate on a similar timeline or even if they'll do a beta. Perhaps IW or Activision have decided that being the best selling shooter ever is enough.

What say you, fourzerotwo? I see you lurkin'. ;)

regular edition for me.

steel book - whoopee
cheapass NV - no peripheral vision, distance of only 50ft.
COD1 - been there, done that
What about the model HEAD

this is truly the most outrageous pack-in I've ever seen, and in every way you can think of. not entirely like, "omg how lame," just...it's so outrageous

They keep coming up with crazier and crazier stuff for Collector's Editions. :lol

Will United Offensive eventually be ported to XBLA/PSN if they are doing the original? Still never got around to playing that.

Been playing a lot of COD4 lately to tune up for this. Still my favorite multiplayer game since Counter-Strike.

I just finished CoD4 finally, and got part way through the MP. If they can cut down on the grenade spam in MP, and do less BS to hide lag I'm in.

It's great to hear that they are getting rid of infinite spawners, but infinite spawners are more of a periphery issue that lights up message boards. More of the problem are the scenes where enemies run out at the exact same patterns 3-4 times. This happens far more often than infinite spawners, and it does as much harm to the immersion, and more harm to the gameplay than infinite spawners.

I'll rent for the SP, and if they fix enough issues in the MP I'll keep it.

Activation throwing in another peripheral with one of their games. Totally unpredictable.

Anyway, I'll defiantly pick up the middle edition. I love art books, and getting COD1 on PSN for free makes it seem like a good deal. It just better not be above $79.99.

I actually just recently finished CoD and United Offensive for PC. Wonder if the re-release will be worth double dipping for.

I am so glad they just put the "Hardened" steelbook edition in the Prestige box with the goggles. They KNOW that people would be pissed if the regular box was in there.
I'd rather have a regular box in there to be honest.

I'll probably be getting the reg. edition anyways.

Well, you have to admit its a more useful useless item than most when it comes to LE stuff. Here's hoping Activision pulls a halo cat helmet market flood scenario where I can pick one of these up for around normal price come Christmas, I'm actually tempted. :lol

Wait, their still using the COD name on the regular edition MW2 box? Are they scared it won`t sell without it?
At least they know that shit would be redundant on the e-peen editions. On the regular box they might as well have had the "Call of Duty" bit as a sticker.

I stopped at seventh (like the flying cross symbol) but I'm tempted to go for the gold cross. But I'm so damned close to the gold shotgun. Decisions...
DO what i'm doing; complete all of Prestige mode then start on the different challenges and golden guns. Damn the golden AK47 is a bitch to get!

PS. talking about prestige, which mode do you guys suggest I play the most for a faster upgrade? I found out that I get the most points from Headquarters at an average of 500 points per match. Is that alright?

Search and Destroy is a lot faster to rack up points with. You get 50 xp per kill compared to 5 xp in HQ on top of bonus xp each round. You also get 100 xp for planting and defusing bombs and a S&D match goes by A LOT faster, even a full 7 round match, than a full HQ game.

Obviously the downside of S&D is its one life per round so each life counts!

If you're going to stick with Headquarters, the best thing to do is to camp the last HQ and rack up kills. Of course, its important to have a full party if you're going to camp the HQ.

Also try to do the challenges since its easy xp.

these collectors editions are getting out of hand and are becoming nothing more than a new way to squeeze extra $$$ out of consumers pockets.

They are no longer satisfied with selling the game for $60, no they want to throw in a bunch of extra...junk...err, collectibles that probably cost a fifth of what they are charging. I remember when collectors editions meant something and were felt more as a reward for pre-ordering a game and not as a blatant way to rip off the obsessive gamer.

No one has to buy the collectors edition. Just buy the fucking vanilla version. Why dont people get this?

Don't bother. I had the same argument yesterday. You can't win. People have to bitch about something. If they don't their bitching license gets revoked.

Looked pretty bad (can't wait to hold up for 10 minutes to do that epic mountain climbing sequence!), will only buy if the multiplayer is impressive and a significant step forward from COD4's.

You read my mind.

It makes me wonder what the gouging plan is if/when things go towards digital distribution. These companies are still making a lot of money from physical products.

I'm not going to defend the Prestige edition but I think the Hardened edition is actually quite nice for longtime fans of the series. I'm sure CoD1 will be a $15 download and the people who buy one of these editions will likely get access to it first. The steelbook case is also a nice bonus for people that are really looking forward to the game. Considering that version is $20 more, it's a decent deal for people like me who were planning on getting CoD1 anyway, especially since I really like the way that the steelbook looks.

Any chance the PC version will support the 360 controller?

I know kb/m is "superior" but I like controllers better.

Doubtful although there are work-arounds for it with third party programs.

COD 4 and COD Waw on PC didn't support the 360 controller natively even though obviously it would have been an easy thing to bring over the code from the console side
