So my wife almost gets mugged today

I guess the reason everyone is so up and arms about the OP is because he gave to little detail about the perpetrator in question. Besides the fact that he's male and he's African-American, what other details did his wife give him? Was he tall, short, heavy-set, medium built? Did he have any scars, tattoos, gold teeth, receding hairline? was he dressed well or shabby? The point is, with the only two descriptions that the wife gave it's a miracle the police were able to find the guy...or though that's how it seems since the OP is so keen on detail.

The police found the guy because he was still at the gas station and matched whatever detailed description she gave them.

Since he didn't assault her or steal anything they only told him that he is banned from coming to this gas station.

There's no such thing as attempted larceny? He accosted her and tried to open her car door without permission. There's also no such thing as menacing? What sort of keystone cops were you dealing with here? :lol Sorry to hear about the incident, btw. People suck for not helping (especially the employees), but thankfully your wife wasn't hurt.

Is this a joke? The word "mugger" alone already implies a fucking image and I don't see a 3 piece suit in it. Adding the race is just being honest. The OP doesn't have to post a mugshot

Everyone wants to defend a n***** but no one wants to be a n*****. This thread was tailored made for that saying

I really worry how some people in this forum function in everday society.
I'm willing to bet a lot of them are young, are on college campuses or are close to one and are very self-centered around their image. I know exactly how they function.

They're posting from a MacBook in a popular coffee shop on/near campus. It's not even a real Mac. It's a make-shift cover for their Dell to make it look like a Mac, so they can uphold the image. They don't even go to school there. They go to the community college down the street, but want to be part of the social scene of a university and fear their frienemies will find out they are human with a real budget that can't afford $30,000 yearly tuition.

What's with even mentioning race?

I really dislike when people do things like this. The race was mentioned because the stereotype of "criminals" in America seems to hand in hand with being black. While this isn't "right" it is reality. Criminal activity goes hand in hand with lower socioeconomic status, which unfortunately encompasses a large amount of black people. Get over it. The OP should not even have to justify why he brought race into it. If he feels important it's important. What if he was a racist (which IMHO he isn't)? Is it illegal to be prejudice? It might not be "right" but their is nothing stopping him.

Thats because in typically in america "white" is standardor typically the image some one gets when they think of the general dude.

This is true. It's just common nature in America to act like White's the standard. I live in a predominantly black community, probably 70% of my friends are black and yet they will usually say that guy for a white guy and that black guy for a black guy.

Why the fuck would you mention the computer brand, but not a specific coffee chain?

Prick.

This type of statement I hate.. I don't think the OP did anything wrong. If I was assaulted by a black guy I would say it. Just like I would for a white guy, Asian guy and so on and so on..

But saying if they want to be prejudice they can be, is true. But someone having an opinion about it works both ways. So if someone feels they are and calls them on it how is that any different than some stating their prejudice?

Nothing really huh?

But again this has nothing to do with OP, who I think just told a story about what almost happened to his wife..

But if it was me I might have ended up in jail from going down to the gas station myself..

:lol

they go to the local scenes and the night clubs, wearing anything that will make them look as cool as possible. One night they are a hipster, the next day they are "urban" The day after their wild night out they lounge around the coffee shops(god forbid they go to a library) and tell the people around them about the ills of the world, and how everything would we better if more citizens realized they were part of the "global community" all the while sipping janga juice

Oh sorry, I would've specified Starbucks, but I'm not sure if the cool kids go there anymore, due to it's recent downsizing in America.

Hey you sexist asshole, why would you call me a prick?! Are you purposefully not recognizing that I am a female? That's "Fucking Bitch" to you, mister.

I pretty much dropped out of the scene after I started seeing this transformation. It's funny because I've since seen people that I knew 5 years ago, and they still dress exactly the same and act the same, but all the dudes wear eyeliner. I guess once you get to a certain point, you can't get any more hipster, so you just wear eyeliner. Is that nirvana for hipsters or something? I'm so lost and out of the loop (thank god - he/she, black/white, whatever God may be).

Oh, and all the shitty bands they were in back then are now defunct and they are currently in even shittier bands (somehow). Bravo.

Hey now, at least I didn't say, "those people." Oh no, what have I done?!

I make myself sick. I've had enough of myself. I don't have to put up with my shit anymore. I'm going to take myself outside and kick my own ass.

My friends sound eerily the same. They may be doing some heavy drugs, to explain the eyeliner.

Somehow, in their heads they thought wearing eyeliner would prevent people from thinking they do drugs. Somehow they thought that would make sense

You don't need matches or guns or any of that shit. A friend of mine, she was being ACTUALLY mugged once. She was studying overseas, and one night while she was walking alone a dude who I think had a knife physically grabbed her and went for her pocketbook.

So she bit him.

She bit him real hard.

Then she hightailed it to the cops, yelling and waving her passport around for the people in the area who were ignoring her to be forced to take notice. I think they got the dude because it actually took him a minute to collect himself from being fucking bitten.

So maybe the wife needs to pay someone to teach her how to kick a man in the balls if she's so afraid of an unarmed crazy guy yelling at her in broad daylight in front of a crowd of people.

Yeah dude because yelling for help to people near by the OP's wife so they can be forced into action worked out real well in her case.

And lemme just run down and flag the police that's conveniently just standing right around the corner every time you need help.

Never mind the logistics and lack of man power to help every single person in need. Never mind that the ratio of cops depending on the size the PD can be anywhere from 500 to 2000 to 1. Never mind the fact that you're not the only one person in the entire city that is in need of help.

But man, GAF. You guys are so EXTREEM. Put the Metal Gear down for a minute and drink a fucking herbal tea or some shit.

But they're expert hand to hand fighters, right?

Giving this lady a gun is not the answer.

But biting a total stranger and possibly contracting a disease IS the correct answer right?

Not to mention who knows what kind of stimulants the guy is on.

But yeah depending on environmental variables that are totally out of your control is the best way to protect yourself.

Sweet, this thread is fast becoming a beautiful train wreck.

The perfect 10.

Are you posting on a MacBook in Starbucks, by chance?

Actually, this thread went to shit about 3 posts in.

Hmm... May be a viable solution. Always thought they were sXe/"straight edge." Which would make this solution hilarious! Or maybe they think it looks good, which is more hilarious! Regardless, hilarity ensues.

Hey, I was just playing devil's avocate. The OP said he was being descriptive and yet all we got was sex and race. I was simply giving an explination to why ppl might take offense at the mention of said race is all.

VeritasVierge said:
Unnecessary details which make it seem like he wants specify the guy's race. I see he did it unintentionally but it was not necessary. He could have said "some guy' and it would have been just as effective.

Wrong. When giving an account of a story people picture what is occuring in the story. When describing someones appearance, including race allows the people listening to form a better picture.

the only people this should bother are people suffering from an extreme case of political correctness and Political correctness will be the death of us all.

That's it?

I've been chased by a mob of homeless people for several blocks when I refused to give them money.

That's way scarier than some jackass at a gas station. At least you had witnesses.

Which some ppl in this thread feel that the OP didn't do well enough. Had the OP typed a better description (besides just race) the whole thread would still be intacted. Ergo, the mugger's race was unintentionally the focal point of the situation besides the crime itself.

Political correctness will be the death of us all.

I agree. Some would call it a necesary evil in an intolerant world but I think it just calls to more unwanted attention about race/ethnicities.

C'mon, it happened to his wife.

if i was black, and i saw some little bitch make a scene about someone saying they were mugged by a "black" guy... i think i'd have to mug that bitch on the spot and slap them across the face with my big, black dick.

lucky for some of you im a pasty jew.

By the end of reading your post, all I could think of was, "I hope she didn't pay for that gas".

Though I find it interesting that you failed to mention that the cops who couldn't do much for you were White...

:P

Kidding aside, I think you did the right thing in calling the TV station. I'm surprised that some guy trying to mug your wife, wouldn't have matched up with any previous muggings.

Attempted murder is a crime, but attempted robbery isn't? wtf?

This story is overly dramatic for something that isn't really that big a deal. The dude didn't even have a weapon.

All the more reason to assume the circumstances here are totally blown out of proportion.

Did you notice how no one else at the gas station reacted to what the "mugger" was doing? That should tell you everything you need to know about the situation.

"She begins to shout for help as this guy starts reaching into his pocket. At that moment HIS cell phone rings and he turns around to answer it."

Look at this sentence. Read it twice if you have to. I'm not going to touch on the race issue here but I'd be shocked if his wife's negative reaction to the guy wasn't influenced by it.

You know that's pretty extreme. Keep in mind I wasn't there, and why would you want a detailed description of how many creases this person had on his face? Keep in mind my post is pretty long as it is, I didn't want to turn it into a wall of text since so many gaffers are ADD and so I'm trying to make this as accessable as possible :D

As to the police, well she spoke with them over the phone for the majority of the time so I can't tell you if the cops were white, black, whatever whatever. Yeah and the reason they found him mainly I think he kept his same clothing on and remained at the gas station when the cops showed up so naturally as he matched the physical description and had identical clothing to my wife's description it had to be him. I really wish I was there though, I've always wanted to see what a man drenched in gasoline looks like.

I should be a prosecutor. If his wife had shot and killed this guy I would have made sure she got the chair.

Again I wasn't there but please she wouldn't have called the cops if this was just a homeless guy rudely asking for money. He actually threatened her and tried to open the car door after he spied her purse sitting in the passenger seat.

My opinion of what happened is that this guy wasn't prepared to physically attack anyone and at the point where his verbal assault hadn't worked the only thing to do is run away or go to the next level. I think what happened there was he used his cell phone ringing as an excuse to get away without losing face (or running away like the mangy coward he is).
Again I wasn't there so I can only go by what she tells me. Yes it's possible that some of these events didn't exactly happen as I describe, but since she was very stressed and into the flight or fight response it is possible that not every detail is as she remembers in reality. This happens all the time in these situations, be them crimes or car accidents.

Stop instigating this crap and inflamming the thread. The most she'd have done was spray the guy with pepper spray if she had any on her.
