So... No Vertical Orientation With Xbox One?

Since my PS3 occupies my main slot, my xbox stands next to my TV table like an outcast bastard child.

Microsoft deliberately shaped the Xbox such that it must occupy your main slot and cannot be put elsewhere. "Input One", mission accomplished.

I want my PS4 vertical but I'm worried about it venting out the rear. It looks quite deep and my cupboard doesn't have a huge amount of depth. My phat PS3 vented out the top when vertical so that was ok.

And the follow up:

How about a follow up to the follow up?

Theres a matte black S360!??

What?

My S360 stands tall and proud, I'm not worried about disc scratching since I install all my games anyways.

My slim PS3 however lays flat...it just doesn't look right standing up.

Pretty sure after the first year, all slims became matte.

I don't really have enough space on my desk to keep my consoles in horizontal position so vertical 4lyfe.

Edit: Btw do you really have to get the stand for the PS4 to keep it in the vertical position?

Made a small revision for better looping. Also, no motion-blur version:

I'm not happy Xbox One can't be placed vertically. My PS3 and 360 were placed vertically. Standing on both sides of my big Pioneer receiver. My Xbox One might have to sit on top of my receiver and I'm not happy about that at all.

And the gifs littering a lot of threads is very annoying.

Well, thats a real concern. See my desktop:

As you see, i have not enough space for horizontal, but at the same time on vertical... it can be risky. Even worst because i have a two years old kid. But my 360 was there during 2 years and nothing happened.

Could you not move the right mini-speaker so its touching the sticker on what looks like the main speaker in front of the monitor, and have the console stood vertically on top of the main speaker?

How about just shifting the Screen and the left stereo speakers a little bit to the left and put the box between the subwoofer and the now empty space. If one of your small speakers fall that would be a lot less of a problem. And the console would be protected against tipping over by the subwoofer and the screen.

As well as no vertical orientation, the design does not allow for stacking either. Difficult for those with limited media center space

AFAIC XBox One could only fit on the floor, which will get me an irrevocable no go from my wife.

I use horizontal. No risk of accidentally knocking it over. Safety first!

Vertical always, especially with the PS4.

This was Microsoft's PR repsonse.

“Designed as a premium entertainment system that is aesthetically at home in the living room, the console is intended to sit horizontally. Additionally, the airflow and venting system was optimized for this horizontal orientation.”

To me that sounds like place it vertically at your own risk.

Woah, pressing buttons is stone age tech :)

No, my center doesn't have the setup for vertical consoles. I used to stand my phat ps3 up only because it was getting too hot inside the entertainment center.
