So, Official Thread titles should include |OT|?

I like how Alan Wake's thread (amongst others) looks:

My name is Alan Wake. I'm a writer. | The Official Thread

The "| The Official Thread" at the end looks really nice and not like a clan tag. :lol I think regulating the topics of titles so much is a bit silly, personally. If the name of the game is there and it's an obvious official thread, it's not doing anything wrong, surely?

i wonder how far this will go...

what will be first:

iPhone/iPod Touch Gaming |OT|

or:

buy/trade/sell |OT|

or:

"I need a new PC!" 2010 Edition |OT|

Is this thread the |OT| of the discussion for the |OT| tag... or is it merely a sub-thread?... Hmmm.

Which is messy since there is usually more than one thread for the same game. Plus, the |OT| tag isn't consistent. Sometimes it's in the middle, or the end, it just doesn't look right.
it's consistent.

it's: GameName |OT| optional text

Looks messy. Which is funny because they probably want it for uniformity.

Just do something like [Official] at the end.
This is a better idea if they're going to force the change through. OT means OT. It's a terrible, terrible change.

|OT| Rock Band Platform
|OT| Final Fantasy XIII
|OT| Super Street Fighter 4 BACK OF THE BUS, SAGAT!
|OT| StarCraft 2 Beta
|OT| Split/Second
|OT| ModNation Racers Loading, Moaning And Creating Vinyl Clothing
|OT| Blur

Naaah, still not good.
indeed, having |OT| first looks terrible

Well I dunno man he was saying that if you read "Super Street Halo Mario Starcraft Bros. Fantasy (ot)" then people will get confused and think that they're on the sub-forum that the tab is saying that they're not on and somehow ignore all the other gaming threads and they'll get banned for uh i dunno his argument was really confusing

If they're going to insist on making some sort of visual distinction, make it so mods can change the text color of those threads. Or do what some vb boards do and have a selectable icon/picture that displays to the left of thread titles. This does nothing, and it doesn't make official threads any more eye-popping since there will probably still be 10 of them on the first page at any time. I really don't understand this.

At least now "Official Thread of" isn't everywhere.

Yes, yes, YES!

I fucking hated seeing official threads with "of ________" with shitty subtitles that were just annoying to look at. Classy thread titles are ones like Alan Wake's.

Usually mods are the ones who put the "funny titles".
For instance the BFBC2 thread.

Off Topic is the first thing I thought when I just saw the new official titles, maybe [official] would work better?

Long as threads can have witty names....oh

THE OFFICIAL THREAD OF, | Official Thread, and all the different formatting choices, make it harder to identify official threads at a glance, and we're being inundated with official threads these days. Currently it's a manageable problem, I think, but it's getting harder for official threads and the latest news to coexist on a single page of threads, so I needed to clean it up as much as possible.

OT may immediately bring the off-topic forum to mind, but within the gaming forum the context can be different without (permanent) confusion. And the way it's formatted allows for an optional subtitle. Putting the |OT| or some other designation in front segregates the official threads a bit too much. At that point there may as well be a separate forum for the things.

Do we really need official thread indicators? I mean really?

ugh.
Echoing this. Honestly what's the point of calling it an Official Thread anyway? What authority is it based off of? Not like other threads about the game won't get created anyway

Noooo, no different colors. We're not in the circus.

My vote goes to

[Official Super Mario Galaxy 2] Game of the Forever and Ever
[Official Halo Reach] Haters gonna Hate
[Official Babyz] Can U imagine?
[Official ***] Etcetera

Came here to make this very comment. I like it. It makes spotting official threads very easy. When glancing at the page, they jump right out.

Makes sense I guess.

Alan Wake's thread title is one of the shittiest in recent years. any thread title that doesn't begin with the game's name is shit.

Does that make this the Official Thread of asking about Official Threads?

Also, this is like back in the day when there wasn't an off-topic board, and all off-topic threads in the gaming section said OT.

Is it not possible to make the orange/black neogaf logo next to each thread change to red or blue if the thread is marked as official? might be more effort.

If you guys want a standardized one, here is my idea:

Make the names of the game in all caps.

Like:

RED DEAD REDEMPTION of whistling Morricone in the desert

SUPER MARIO GALAXY The Thread

SONIC and SEGA ALL STARS RACING NeoGAF Megathread Zone

LEGEND of ZELDA Official Thread

etc, etc

But I still say we should be free to do the thread titles however we want.

Any thread title that sounds like a tagline or a line from a trailer is bad.

See: "NO PLACE TO HIDE, NO TIME FOR A LEGEND TO FOXDIE" ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
