In a competitive situation, FX has given script commitment to a comedy inspired by the life of the Internet star, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.
Johnson is best known for hosting YouTube series =3, in which he offers snarky commentary on viral videos. The comedian-actor's YouTube channel, where Johnson posts new videos every Tuesday, has amassed 8.7 million subscribers and a whopping 2.3 billion views. The 31-year-old, who was recently featured as part of THR's Comedy Class of 2013, is YouTube's most-subscribed-to-comic on the site, with 50 million views a month.
STORY: FX Announces New Network to Launch in September
Writing duo Mike Gagerman and Andrew Waller will pen the script, with Johnson receiving a co-creator credit. 3 Arts' Dave Becky and Troy Zien will exec produce alongside Gagerman and Waller. It's yet to be determined which network -- FX or the upcoming FXX -- would air the project, should it move forward.
Gagerman and Waller's credits include the upcoming feature Road to Nardo, which is going into production with T.J. Miller and Thomas Middleditch attached. Gagerman and Waller are repped by WME, Circle of Confusion and Jackoway Tyerman. Johnson is with WME and 3 Arts.
The project comes as FX is building its comedy brand in preparation for the September launch of FXX.

So.....what's happenin' forum? Is this a GoGo or a NoNo?

LOL @ people pretending to not know who this toolbag is.
It's okay to admit you know who he is. It's the only way we can get the hate fest rolling.

He's terrible. He's one of those early YouTubers that got popular by using "shocking" tabloid-style titles IN ALL CAPS for his videos. He has zero original content, it's all just commentary on viral web stuff. His idea of funny is making exaggerated facial expressions and yelling. He's the Dane Cook of YouTube.

EDIT: Wow, he's still doing the same schtick. He must be dead inside.

I dont mind him and I'll watch his stuff from time to time, but I never thought he was "holy fuck give him a TV show" caliber good.

I have seen one video with the guy, and I shut it off. The whole repost other peoples videos is so damn "Americas Top Home videos" or whatever that program is called.

Incredibly uninteresting. If he enjoys himself and makes money out of Youtube, power to him. Succeeding at TV/film? Good luck. :D

If you've been on Youtube you've seen his face, his name, and his shitty wall o' pics backdrop.
I've actually set up greasemonkey filters to try to block his shit.

I've genuinely never heard of him before. I guess it's an advantage of being logged in to youtube and not seeing the default homepage.

GAF only pretends to not know pornstar names.

Me? I've stumbled onto his videos once or twice.

I only go to YouTube when I click a link from here, a how to video, a movie trailer, or something a friend sent. Never seen the guy before.

I remember watching his stuff a couple years ago and he was pretty funny.. nowadays its really forced and scripted

I'd like to see sxephil get a job as a news anchor though

I remember when this guy was still growing he faked a girlfriend (twitter account and all) while also having some kind of love/hate relationship with some other asian woman on twitter who ousted him.

I hate this guy's face so much. I've never even watched any of his videos, but they all have a picture of him making a stupid face for the thumbnail and they always piss me off.

I can say that I legitimately do not know who this guy is.

The way I use YouTube is that the content I watch are things that specifically interest me and are often specific to specific internet communities (often times video games). I am subscribed to very few high profile YouTube channels, the most notable being Classic Gaming Room (which I found on my own by looking up classic game stuff, IIRC) and Rhett and Link (which I have found about through NeoGAF). I have very little found any interest in browsing YouTube's front page stuff or their featured channels. Because of that, I have somehow managed to avoid even the slightest name drop which leads me to want to assume that the dude must not be popular enough to be known outside of his own audience (and I could be wrong since, like I said, I know nothing about him.)

"comedy inspired by the life of the Internet star."

So him stealing other people's shit and have a ridiculous voice over it? His life cant get any more comedic than that! Good for him though for finding a very niche market.

I unfortunately know of this person due to the nature of my job...

But c'mon, a scripted show about this guy's life? Uh, why?

FX can pair this shit with Anger Management.

I always see his videos on the front page and wonder if he is ever going to disappear. If there is any hope left in this world this show will flop and he will fall off the map forever. Dude is a fucking clown.

I watched his shows for when he first started at his peak. When he made those deals with media companies(that almost tanked his show) I lost interest. His guest while he was away was bad except Gabriel Iglesias AKA Fluffy.

Has any web stars actually made a clean transition to real entertainment success yet? Bo Burnham seems to be doing okay, but he wasn't exactly a hosting personality.
