So, sell your fatty or keep it?

I'll buy one if my current one ever breaks. Reasons being I think the slim looks hideous and on top of that I use Yellowdog on my PS3 almost everyday. So for the time being I'm quite happy with my fat PS3.

PC emulation of PS2 is superior than a BC PS3 for many titles, and that will only get better over time, so it's a non-issue.

My launch PS3 is broken now. When I have the money to replace it, I'll probably grab a slim.

Keeping my launch 60gb. Works fine. I still play a ton of PS2 games so no reason to sell it. Hopefully by the time this one dies some form of BC will be reintroduced.

My "fatty" is a refurbished 60 GB backward compatible unit, which replaced my original near-launch 60 GB unit that broke a few months ago. I wouldn't even think of selling it.

However, I am considering possibly getting the slim PS3 for day-to-day use, and put my current system into semi-retirement (hoping not to wear it out).

The only obstacle right now is that a few game save files (most notably Street Fighter IV) are locked, so I won't be able to back them up and transfer them to another system.

I'll probably double dip. Price is good and my 60GB is pretty noisy these days. I'm afraid it's gonna croak but can't bear to part with it.

On a related note... had they upped the speed of the blu-ray drive I might have considered it.

Maybe on the second revision (which should hopefully look a bit nicer too).

My 60gb looks better and has full BC. If it breaks I either get that replaced with another 60gb or give up. The slim doesn't appeal to me in any way.

I'm keeping my 80GB "fat" PS3 with no BC. I bought it only a few months ago but I don't regret spending 400 bucks since I got an awesome deal (brand new 80GB + 2 bluray movies + 2 games + extra dualshock controller all for $400).

Plus the slim doesn't look good at all, imo.

The only reason I'm even considering the Slim is because I've already paid $$$ to have my 60 gig replaced by Sony and my current machine has been loud for quite a while now. I just like knowing that I can pop in my copy of GOW 1&2/Persona 3/Shadow of the Colossus anytime I want : /

Can anyone respond to my post on the 1st page? How easy is it to transfer stuff to a new system? And how can I tell if a game save can't copy?

I have a 60GB fatty which has been replaced with a 320gb hdd, keeping mine. If I didn't own a PS3 already I would hop on the slim at 300 bucks. Best console deal available now by a long shot.

I believe you just need to do a system backup onto another media format (USB memory stick, usb hdd, etc), then you can restore that info on your new PS3. That is what I did when I replaced my hdd, worked fine. Although I don't know if there are any locked saves for my games.

doing the swap seems dumb considering how the $299 price will cause used ps3 values to plummet. It's like how selling a used 360 without games only gets you a little over $200. I even got a used Arcade for $140.

I got a 60GB this summer and payed Sony to get a refurb just for the BC. I never had a PS2 so the PS3 is in fact my first PS2 too :lol

Hmm, I am playing my large backlog of PS2 games on my 60 Gig PS3.

It still runs as quiet as the day I bought it.

Will I sell a superior machine for one with less options? Not a chance.

As much as I want a quieter, smaller, console, I don't want to give up my 60GB with BC. Being able to play both PS3 and PS2 on one system is too convenient.

It's tempting though. My 60GB has major heat issues... after a couple minutes of playing a game it starts to sound like it's about to take off.

Long live the phat PS3!!!

Ill be keeping mine like I had with my phat PS2, both arent going anywhere even if they were to stop working (well ill try to get replacement for them but of the same thing).

I know the slim has some interesting advantage has been more light, smaller and probably more silent (this will need to be proven has I seen 40gb much more louder than my original 60gb), matte finish (ahhh no more annoying dust, fingerprint scratch). But no BC, no media slot, 2 usb and no more Other OS. All features I am currently using so the slim cant replace my current usage of my phat PS3.

I wish you all that are keeping their phat PS3 it will live long and prosper (doing the vulcan hand sign ;-)).

Nope!

I'm too prideful to sell my PS3. I worked a whole summer to buy the 80GB MGS4 PS3 pack. No way in hell I'm selling my PS3. Plus I really do not like the new design of the slim PS3.

Why would I go for something with less functionality when my current unit is silent, works well, and doesn't heat up?
Shiny and new? I don't know. I can't keep up with this fanboy stuff anymore.
Sell the PS3 and buy a PS2 again has crossed my mind but there is always the potential of at least one more interesting game coming out after FFXIII.

I have 2 fat PS3s I see no reason to get a slim. If they had BC maybe I would get 1 for my game room to replace a fat. I just see no reason to spend 299.99 dollars for a smaller PS3.

I would not sell my fat PS3, but the PS3 Slim is very tempting just because it could be quieter and (potentially) far more reliable in the long run.
