So.....some people are creating 2nd accounts to buy more EA Access

Don't be surprised if this becomes a standard feature for every new game in a year or two. Also don't be surprised when every new game is artificially delayed by a month to capitalize on the people with more money than brains.

EA should make it so you get the 6 hours for the sub price, yet after that time if you want to buy the game then you can and can carry on playing instantly as a part of the deal.

I would be really really up for them adding this function.

EA pushed back the release of Madden a few years ago, to have more time to work on the game (and the released versions still had issues).....we used to get the game much earlier...As well as a free demo, much earlier.

I believe an EA rep said this Access version of the game is the "Final" build...sure there will be a day one patch and more as the season goes on. But this isn't like a demo, where the Final version is much better than the demo build.

Now, if EA sees that there is demand for getting the game early...Heck with even some people paying twice or more....well, then if they advertise next year that you can get a "pre-season" edition of Madden 16 to test out all your favorite new rookies.

Well if they push their Dev team to finish the game much earlier, for the benefit of EA Access...then that could hurt the content of the game for that season/year...As well as other glitches/exploits (like quitting with no repercussions in Madden 25) that can't be easily patched.

So for us folks who will wait till the regular release date....we would still be affected, by a game forced to be finished much earlier. To no benefit to the majority of the consumers who will purchase the game.

It's their money, they are allowed to be dumb with it. Besides, it's likely a small percentage of people who are actually paying twice.

This sets a pretty awful precedent for demos in the future, at least when it comes to EA sports games. People have the right to do whatever they want, but it's still a shame that EA will see this as some sort of vindication for basically paying for a demo of their game.

What are publishers going to think when they see people who bought a game on PS3/360 buying the same game with less jaggies on PS4/X1????

The horror!!

There are going to be hardcore fans for every popular game. Not a big deal.

a lot of these people are probably spending all that time on Ultimate Team mode to get a headstart, people that would spend hundreds on packs would totally spend $5 to play 6 more hours early

The second part could be true...but with the Internet and Youtube...well information and tutorials spread fast....and if many of the folks who have finished their 6 hrs...Heck u can easily finish it playing with a group of friends in an evening....then all the friends can chip in a dollar or 2, to get 6 more hours for the next night...etc. It might be a little hassle now, but next year EA and other companies might make it much easier to *buy* more time.

And yes it is their money...hard earned, in some cases...and it shouldn't be none of our business.....but that was also said about "horse armor/DLC"..."Xbox Gold Live fees", heck at one point, MS actually increased it instead of reducing the price....and I'm sure others can give examples where what a few people did with their money, affected others down the road.

If there seems to be demand for something like this, EA could even allow to buy more preview hours on the same account, so that people could continue playing on the same profile keeping progress and so on. This could lead to a "play early under subscription" future. Woah...

Yeah I can see this happening.

Meh, a ton of gaffers would do the exact same thing if it was for Uncharted 4 or Bloodborne. Hell, I'd probably do the same for Dragon Age or Destiny. Hell I've paid for Collector's Editions tons of times for a couple days early access to several MMOs. I really don't get how anyone is shocked by this. Time has shown again and again that you can charge whatever you want for early access. $5 for 6 hours early access seems fair enough to me.

They have no reason to do that now that it looks like their most hardcore sports fans are probably willing to pay $5 for every 6 hours of game time days before release.

It just goes to show you what people are willing to do given the choice. Specially hardcore fans of a particular franchise.

Win-Win for EA and just straight up pure idiocy for the people doing this.

There are different variations of hardcore gamers. Gaming is an expensive hobby in general and I wouldn't call someone an idiot if they think spending $5 for an extra 6 hours is of value to them. But yea, EA might have found themselves a golden goose as I'm sure some people will do the same with Dragon Age etc...

These people create an economical need where there should be none..
Unfortunately the pay model they support is also forced upon the rest of us, and the companies think this is the way to go forward.
I highly doubt that there is a single neoGAF member that would suppor that.

$5.... large coffee... 6 hours more of a fun game.

Sounds reasonable.

I may do it myself. However, what this really should be is early access for 6 hours and then allow you to buy the game and play it unlocked early, five days in advance.

People pay 100s of dollars to buy a code for a beta off eBay a day or two before it goes public or 100s of dollars for a game that has broken street date... This type of precedence is already there... If gaming company's really wanted to nickel and dime the hardcore community they easily could but it would rub a lot of people the wrong eay.

This isn't a huge number of people it's only the most hardcore of sports game enthusiasts. So I doubt this will set a precedent. As long as people are happy with spending there money to play early then that's all that matters. I love Madden, but I can make it to Tuesday with the 6 hour trial.

How does this compare to folks here buying multiple copies of the same game? Or buying HD "remasters"? It's people spending their disposable income how they see fit. Not seeing the problem here.

I don't think it compares...or at least to that extent.

If some buy multiple copies of the same game or remasters...I don't think it affects those users who only buy one version..or are interested in the same genre.

With this EA Access situation however, on this page, I touched on how it can affect the majority of the consumers of the Madden franchise..or gamers needing their yearly NFL fix.

wow I could not have anticipated this. interesting. not really sure how to feel about this.

are people creating second xbox live accounts as well?

So eventually it's all gonna be like this, PLUS DLC.

I said online gambling... man, EA is taking this even further. Consoles are going to turn into slot machines at this rate, save for the rare great game that doesn't do any of this.

let's not get ahead of ourselves. it's not like millions of people are doing this

It's a function of time, dude. It just started. As long as there are people with no self-control over how much money they spend as long as it's small enough not to notice on a one-shot, and there must be quite a few because we're bad with long time scales, this is gonna make bank.

This introduces a new level of pay to play.
I have not doubt that EA, UBI and Act, MS and Sony understands and in very large part expected this.

I hope that
1: Sony, MS and Act reframe from joining in.. just long enough to see the subscription plan fail.
2: EA subscription service dies/peaks quickly and show measurable decline within the next year.
3: Sony continues to support PS+ and MS beefs Games for Gold.

We are witnessing the decline of gaming value and many of us are lining up for the abuse with a coke in our hand and smile on our face.

Bill Cosby was a profit.

What EA needs to do is make it, like season ticket, play for 3 full days :/ or just make it 24 hrs and it would all be good. keep everything the same for EA Access just replace the early access with 24 hrs.

Even if gaming quality declines, it will tap into a demographic that already has addicts and basically convert them into casino zombies. They'll be there supporting the system even if everyone else has jumped ship. It's really nasty, but it seems to work. And all EA has to do is keep supplying the servers.

I'm not sure if this is a case of EA being smarter than everyone thought they were or gamers being complete idiots like we can be. Probably both.

I still blame XBL and the people who bought into it for starting this ride down the vertical shit slope. =P

Early access can be problematic especially in competitive multiplayer games. No one wants to buy a Battlefield game day one only to be matched against people that have better equipment and are way more familiar with the maps. It's not fun for anyone.

And likewise, people want that advantage and will pay for it.

I think it will work fine for monopoly licenses like FIFA and Madden, cuz where else are people going to go. But for genres with competition, it could hurt a brand like battlefield.
