So the Feminist Frequency Youtube channel is suspended...

Maybe try making relevant points to the discussion rather than how you disapprove of someone enjoying her work because of some "I have a film degree" stuff that nobody else cares about.

Addressing the OP is addressing the discussion. If you can't handle that, take step back, go for a walk under the stars, hug someone you know, and reassess what upsets you.

Doesn't copyright stuff just take the videos down? Says right there that the channel got terminated.

I'm a YouTuber myself and I think I've heard from some people that I've collaborated with that after a number of warnings on your videos from YouTube can lead to the suspension/termination of the account. It's shitty, IMO :/.

This is kinda based on distant memory though, so I could be wrong.

Edit:
If you get enough strikes against your channel, it can be suspended or deleted, I believe.
Beaten to it! I'm sorry!

I laugh at how threads about her always devolve into witch hunts to find the secret gamer gate people. Its not even past page 1 and its happening already lol.
I can no longer sit back and allow GamerGate infiltration, GamerGate indoctrination, GamerGate subversion and the international GamerGate conspiracy to sap and impurify all of our precious bodily fluids.

No, because of posts like yours, insinuating I'm just some random person who trots out tired arguments against a critic. It seems impossible to have a genuinely interesting discussion about her work and methods without ad hominem bullshit from her fans.

Your original post reads like one looking to derail a thread into a conversation you want to have. If you have a torch to burn about FF, make your own thread about it.

:/

Okay, I see. Well, this happening the day that the uncharted 4 review went up can't be just a coincidence, right? It's got to be related.

You're addressing someone's subjective enjoyment with what you feel is some objective criticism in something completely unrelated. I have no clue how you believe you are adding anything to the topic at hand. It is about her channel being suspended. Do you believe it was suspended because of your film student criticism? And it's also very cute and mature of you fall back onto addressing me as if I am upset and need a hug.

I know this might seem presumptive, but my thought is people spamming Content ID flags on her.

Just another day on the internet :(

That's not how ContentID works.

If the account was terminated that usually means TOS violations. Could be a lot people flagging multiple videos as containing inappropriate content, but I'm not completely certain about that.

Edit: A sufficient number of copyright strikes (note: these are different from ContentID claims) can also lead to account termination, but I don't recall hearing that FF had any previous outstanding strikes. You lose certain privileges for the first 1 or 2, but those won't immediately result in account termination. For instance, if she had any previous outstanding strikes she would be unable to run ads on her videos or upload videos longer than (I think) 15 minutes in length.

Yeah. GamerGate supporters would never organize some petty, hateful, harassment campaign against a prominent female critic.

"Secret gamer gate people." Wtf does that even mean?

I gotta assume people have tried doing strikes against the channel for a long time, if it was effective it would have happened long ago.

Perhaps someone gained access to the account and posted something insta ban worthy?

Everyone will watch this review once the channel is available again.

Right? It's only going to benefit her in the long run. Short term pain for long term gain. But this does suck even though we don't know for sure what's happened here. I hope her channel gets reinstated soon if she did nothing wrong.

Yep, three strikes and you're out. That's probably what happened here.

Again, we don't know what happened but if there's fuckery going on behind the scenes from you-know-who, then this shows yet again how senseless and reckless YouTube's policies can be and how vulnerable channels are because of it.

Let me guess.

1. They did a review of Uncharted 4.
2. GGs saw it and immediately went apeshit (bonus points if some of them were Sony diehards and the review was somewhat negative)
3. They reported the crap out of the channel
4. YouTube's souless machine didn't check shit and terminated the channel when they say the red alarm.

It's not a witch hunt if they freely expose themselves and come out of the cracks though, it takes no effort on our part ha, they make themselves loud and clear when "she" is mentioned. Boooo, hissss!

I hope it gets sorted soon and YouTube can resinstate everything as-is. Seems a bit severe, especially without any prior warning or isolated reasoning.

I don't disagree that there is room for discussion and critique of her videos, but opening by invoking a Jack Thompson comparison is really a bad (and completely inaccurate, IMO) way of doing so.

Or the review contained what is very likely to be embargoed footage and they got struck with a copyright claim.

If it were that simple to get channels banned then it would've happened a long time ago.

Has that actually happened in that thread? There's some disagreement, but I don't think anyone's been accused of being a Gamergate supporter, unless you're really reading into things.

Its an ultimately poor and harmful criticism.

Could there be some big nudity in UC4 that she had in the video (it is rated M, right?)?

That's true.

This might not even have anything to do with the UC4 video as far as we know.

They'll need to go deeper into a dispute about the channel before they would even know what triggered it.

But if just reporting the channel as an average user, was enough to get it banned, wouldn't that have happened a long time ago?

I mean I'm not excluding whackos being at the core of this, but if you look at Jim Sterling's trouble and Channel Awesome's recently (and many, many others), it's probably a bit more likely that Youtube's own nonsense is at the core of it.

But we don't know anything yet anyways, so just speculation.

is this going to be another thread where people jump to conclusions about why a bad thing happened because of the sensitive nature of the thing affected and then when it turns out to be a reasonable explanation disappear?

Copyright bullshit on youtube is a minefield. Never know what you're going to get flagged for.

If GiIvaSunner can come back from a YouTube termination, hopefully thats a good sign that Anita can come back too.

EDIT: Well that was fast!

I remember this happened to a couple of Youtubers a while ago, if enough noise is made it should be back online hopefully soon.

Does Youtube give uploaders the opportunity to remove the transgressing content? Or is it 'sorry, too late' at that stage.

That I'm not so sure of. I think you can under certain circumstances, but most likely they'll have to win an argument about a video being fair-use protected.

I have seen channels come back with only certain videos missing, though.

Haven't had it happen to me personally, so I can't say 100%.

I really hope this is sarcasm.

Only before you get terminated, since you only get 3 strikes. You can remove one if you get one, but it can be time consuming.

Must've been a mistake though, since their back up now.

The way it works is that if you post a video that has copyrighted content then Youtube will remove it and tell you that you now have a strike against your account. If you do it again, they'll do the same and warn you that one more strike and your channel will be removed. The third time there's no warning, your channel is banned and that's it.
