So uh... what's the connection between Shrek and Sonic?

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
Is it because of the layers?

Anyway I recall a strip of Shrek and Shadow kissing in this very forum as a response for some thread (I forgot what it was). I thought it was just a random thing usually found in DeviantArt... until I stumbled into certain parts of internet where there is an overlap between the two.

Why? Is there any explanation? What is the commonality between an ogre and a blue hedgehog? Is it a meme? Is it a cult?

The internet likes to mock weird fandoms with absurd humor. Though it can be tough to tell the difference between the real and parody fan art. It's pretty funny.

Isn't there a really disturbing cartoon video about some guy and how he makes love to Shrek or something?

Yeah I always thought the Shrek fandom is supposed to be ironic but apparently it isn't.

It really wasn't, just like Sonic 2 wasn't that great.

Sonic : Mario :: Shrek : Toy Story.

Mario and Toy Story are legitimately good in their medium while Sonic and Shrek are just awful.

Really? You need to bring up another movie, especially if it has little to no commonality?

I don't think the fanbase is related to the movie anyway and if they do they usually refer to the first one

I've always seen it as an offshoot of the "my time here is ogre" comic that spiraled out of control and became self-sustaining.

Whatever. So long as it keeps giving us stuff like this I'll just enjoy the ride.

Hey Sonic was pretty good prior to Sonic 06. And Shrek 2 was great.

I talked my mom into letting me stay home from school to play Sonic when it arrived in the mail back in 7th grade. It was better than Altered Beast, for sure, but it was nowhere near 'pretty good'. It was instead very average with a pretty good first stage, and quickly devolved from there. Sonic 2 was more of the same.

Shrek 2 might have been great if you were like 10-12 when it came out, but it isn't a very good animated film in general.

I think fans of both of these characters like being in the underdog position, and deep down know that their enjoyment is based on mediocrity.

Pixar and Dreamworks are direct competitors working in the same medium, vying for the same audience. One generally makes better movies than the other. The tables have flipped a bit lately, but it generally remains so.
