So what becomes of Lucasarts?

Considering the underwhelming impact Disney Interactive has had in the videogame market hopefully they partner with somebody else to bring the Lucasarts IP to fruition.

My dream Star wars game would be a new Rogue squadron game from Factor 5, but I guess it's pointless to hope for that.

GOG to get Grim Fandango, Day of the Tentacle etc, Maniac Mansion exclusive to WU virtual console for 8 hours, then it's on everything (as it should be).
that's my official prediction, damn Schafer's stinging pragmatism

I doubt much will change. Neither will the fanbase; we still want Battlefront 3, Jedi Knight/Academy, Rogue Squadron and Tie Fighter/X-Wing.

Worst case scenario is they go full iOS and tie in Star Wars themes with other hit mobile games (like they are doing with Angry Birds).

Since Disney doesn't have a games division anymore, maybe this means they will be up for grabs to license out to the highest bidder. I can imagine EA, Ubi and Activision all getting in on that. Whoever partners with Disney, they better get a top team on a fucking Battlefront sequel ASAP.

How is Disney with gaming? Lucasarts has been pretty shitty so it's not something I'm heartbroken over, but I honestly can't think of many Disney IP's with games, besides like generic ones destined for the 5$ bin.

I mean there's Epic Mickey which is pretty big, and that's like all I can think of.

They were off to a nice start with Pure and Split/Second but those games sold like ass so they bailed the fuck out.

Oh shit I remember those! I forgot they were Disney affiliated. Pure was a ton of fun, and I loved the demo of Spit/Second. Too bad they went the way of the dodo though. I guess we're most likely going to see a bidding war over SW as you mentioned. My guess is EA, since they've had their fingers in that IP for a while now.

I don't think people understand the point of the deal. Disney basically only cares about Star Wars Films and Star Wars Merchandise. That's is probably all they will look at. Heck, ILM is going to be business as usual. Don't think they will do anything differently with regards to Lucasarts.

I dunno, considering they were fairly open about the idea that the Star Wars property is underutilized in many areas, I have a hard time thinking videogames aren't one of the areas they're thinking about. It's crazy that Star Wars has basically been left to moulder this gen outside of LEGO games and SWTOR.

And? Until this afternoon, LucasArts wasn't Disney. I don't see them pulling the games from Steam day and date with the acquisition.

I don't think current games will be pulled, but given Disney's odd aversion to Steam, the possibility exists that future LucasArts games won't find their way to the service. That, or Disney will finally acknowledge it (Lego PotC, please). Time will tell.

Edit: Oh, and of course another possibility is that things will remain as-is -- Disney's own publishing arm will ignore Steam while LucasArts retains its presence.

The Day of the Tentacle Movie from Pixar!!! :D

Ok lets be true... with Disney it can´t be worse than now. There are no good Movies and Games from Lucasarts this Gen, how could Disney make this worse?

Now instead of just making shitty Star Wars games, they'll make shitty Disney games too. It's been a while since Lucasarts made awesome games, all the talents have probably left the boat more than 10 years ago.

Disney is going to destroy Marvel any day now.

Just you wait.
Well, they did sort of unceremoniously kill off that rather good Spectacular Spider-man cartoon that was really good and commissioned that god awful Ultimate one (the only thing it is Ultimate at is being really unfunny) so there is that, I suppose.

Still better than what CN/WB are doin' with DC in any case.

Starwars in my Kingdom Hearts?

Now Rikku and Sora can become Jedi!

All things aside, Disney doesn't handle games terribly well.
Anyone remember Propaganda Games getting shut down despite showing a REALLY promising Pirates expanded universe game?

To think they pulled people off that game to make some shitty movie tie in game.

Disney is wholly incompetent when it comes to running AAA game development. LucasArts was drowning in red ink. Disney will most likely shutter LucasArts, and possibly do the Lucas flipflop between buying out studios realizing its too expensive to own them and shuttering them then bitching about the costs of outsourcing/trouble of controlling the development to an external studio.

I really don't see Disney interfering with anything unless it becomes a money drain. Hopefully they just are funded and supported while still running the same way. Im really hoping Disney does not interfere too much with any of the Lucas branches, just supports.

I love how some people just see the disney kiddie side, with drawings aimed to kids.

Lion King, parricide story.

Bambi loses his freaking mom.

They created some morally devastating movies. of course, with a good ending, since they are rated for everyone basically.

I'm also in the group that believes that disney will allow the company to do whatever they feel like, and if anything, try to put strength in the creative and storytelling side.

Lucas Arts has not made a good game since? The answer may not even be this millennium. The Jedi Outcast games were done by Raven. At least it is not one staff of failure as the studios have been started and shuttered once a year or two consistently.

It is only possible for this to be good because LA is sadly at absolute zero of quality.

Some weird Kingdom Hearts game but with Han Solo and Storm troopers instead of Final Fantasy characters.

How much did Disney pay for Lucas? $4 billion? That's just insane. Lucas are worthless outside of their effects house. They make terrible movies (luckily not that often though) and their gaming division has been limping along for years. Heck, is Star Wars even worth anything anymore? The high profile failure of The Old Republic tells me the answer is an emphatic "no".

Since start of this gen. Only good Star Wars game were Lego sadly.

Wha? Disney got a bargain. You know how much Star Wars merchandise sells every year? Disney now has a piece of it. Forever.

Ah. Lucas was purchased by Disney?

Well, if Pixar is any indication of what happens when Disney owns you, I don't think LucasArts will be putting out any great stuff. :p

They will probably make all or close to all of the $4 billion back on the next movie trilogy alone. The IPs they got in this deal still have enormous value, and you are either too jaded for your own good or very ignorant if you dont see that.

Someone has to get LA in shape. I mean they have franchises up the ass that people want exploited and yet nothing. If LA becomes competent again then this whole deal will be worth it.
