So what was the deal with Micheal Jackson turning white?

The constant plastic surgery was more his dad being a piece of shit and basically telling him "Your nose is too big", "Your hair is too nappy" and other self esteem destroying shit on a regular basis when growing up

Yep, I feel like he he would have bleached his skin either way but everything else that he did to himself was directly caused by his shitstain of a father.

Quincy Jones: Michael Jackson "Didn't Want to Be Black"

"But he'd come up with, 'Man, I promise you I have this disease,' and so forth, and 'I have a blister on my lungs,' and all that kind of b.s.," he says. "It's hard, because Michael's a Virgo, man -- he's very set in his ways. You can't talk him out of it. Chemical peels and all that stuff."

and the kicker:
"Chemical peels and all of it. And I don't understand it," he says. "But he obviously didn't want to be black." Asked if that is the reason Jackson had undergone so much plastic surgery, Jones says, "Well, what do you think? You see his kids?"

His daughter is also dating a white supremacist now. Really makes you question what kind of father he was, and how internalized self hate can infect those around you. In the end Michael wasn't hurting anybody by not liking being dark skinned until he bought(couldnt even risk passing on his own "negro" genes) a new generation with which to past his views on.

He had vitiligo but he also had issues with his image and identity, he got a nose job because he wanted a thinner and white looking nose. He tried his darndest to get rid of this curly Afro hair, the skin bleaching and then the fact he specifically only chose white women as surrogates for his kids. For a lot of non white artists, the pressure to be or look white and to be accepted is real.

He vitiligo he also was incredibly insecure about how he looked, he thougut himself ugly so he did things like did surgery on his nosw, which seemed like a black stereotype that got to him

Which is weird because he was a pretty good looking dude before the ridiculous surgeries.

His childhood had to be even tougher than the stories/rumors you'd hear. His dad was apparently quite the piece of shit.

He began skin bleaching once his vitiligo got bad rather than having patches of different colors, IIRC
This. For a while he covered up white spots with darker make up, but when white spots were the majority of his skin he covered up he darker areas with white makeup.

Plastic surgeries were from insecurities. Some people take it personally like he was insulting the African American community, but it was his self confidence issues that caused most his problems, including the drug use.

Pepsi have a lot to answer for. That incident also started his addiction to painkillers.

It's really hard to not point the finger, but the incident with the Pepsi commercial really did seem like the starting point of the vast majority of his problems that you could trace to his death.

Fucken' Pepsi...

I had a black friend with it in school, can confirm, she was fuckin' tired of the questions and pointing. Examples of vitiligo:

it progresses randomly too, so one day she woke up with a pale arm.

they look kinda awesome.

Pepsi isn't the cause of all of Michael's issues. He already had the insecurities before then and combined with his fame he would've succombed to drugs eventually.

Man think how much it could have helped young people with skin disorders if he would have owned it. I could understand in the beginning being ashamed, but after becoming the biggest star in the world?

That's a bit of a hyperbole no?

Please tell that to my wife.

She has vitiligo, most visibly on her hands, elbows, and around her eyes. She is so ashamed by it, she doesn't even want her parents to see her without facial makeup, and the first thing she does every morning is put makeup on so no one may see her white eyepatches. She would never in a million years leave the house without makeup. She is afraid of people being disgusted by her in job interviews, or any kind of social situation, really. I've told her she is beautiful the way she is a billion times, and that nobody will judge her because of her "flaw", but sadly I can't convince her :(

I call bullshit on this. I lived in multiple Asian and European countries during the height of MJ's popularity, I would be shocked if there was a place on earth that didn't go crazy for him.

I lived in the Middle East at the time, and while his music was easy enough to find, I don't really remember anything covering his appearance, reasons, and how it was perceived in the States. I was also much younger at the time though, and there weren't things like blogs, etc.

off topic but look at what Lil Kim did to herself

This is how she looked like before
th

Doesn't really look bad, but she looks unrecognizable.

Not to be insensitive but vitiligo looks cool.

I understand it'd cause a hell of a lot of problems though.

Not really problems but because you loose your pigmentation u are more prone to get skin cancer if you don't use proper sunblock and cover yourself more than the average person. I know someone personally that has had vitiligo their entire life to the point were they got about 80% depigmented at which point they got an ok and a prescription for monobenzone 20 cream which will be used to complete the depigmantation. What MJ did and so is this person isn't skin whitening monobenzone 20 cream does lighten your skin but if used for long period of time it eventually completely destroys the pigmentation so your skin is evenly depigmented thoughout. Is completely legal and is the final stage of vitiligo when treatments to grow back pigmentation have failed.

Kind of crazy how someone as big as MJ is apparently unlucky as fuck.

Had a piece of shit father

Fucked his nose up and had to get surgery on it, didn't like the results therefore he didn't stop

Hair caught on fire while shooting a Pepsi commercial. Had to get skin graphs and shit to fix it.

Had vitiligo and decided to bleach his skin

Had lupus

Some don't believe in all the above except for what has indeed been proven or is known as fact. But man, very rare you see a celeb go through so many radical changes appearance wise.

His childhood had to be even tougher than the stories/rumors you'd hear. His dad was apparently quite the piece of shit.

I remember watching something after MJ died, and his family were walking around talking to his fans.
A camera crew spoke with his father, and IIRC the conversation about MJ and his legacy got sidetracked when he got one of his friends to talk about his new record label and what was going on with that.
Just summed up the man. Couldn't miss an opportunity to promote his new venture.

It wasn't just the disease guys, MJ had serious issues around his identity as a black man. Should have stuck to them Jackson Five nostrils, he would have looked waaayyy better.

Actually he's said in interviews that he was proud to be a black man and he even mentioned he didn't want a white actor portraying him

His dad would call him ugly so he developed issues around that and he didn't like his nose.

He had vitiligo and he bleached his skin to "even" it out. But I really feel that like with the plastic surgeries, he got out of control with the bleaching and over did it. I definitely don't think it was his plan all along to be white

If I remember correctly, medical examinations after he died confirmed he had vitiligo. He either bleached his skin to even out the blotches, or let it take over. I personally think he bleached his skin. Here's an example of someone who let it take over:

Before

After
That's pretty mind blowing.

How long does it take for vitiligo to take over?
