• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

So what's the digital/physical split on GAF?

Mostly digital now. It's less clutter and more convenient. There are still times I buy physical copies but it's not because I gave an attachment for collecting a disc/box. All thing equal I would buy digital only.

Sticking to physical for my Wii U, although the data packs for XCX is making me think of getting an external hard drive :/

As of Smash 3DS I decided to go all digital for my 3DS ever since losing my Pokemon X last year. It was a huge blow to many EV trained pokemon spanning back to Heartgold being lost and I am still pretty disappointed in that happening. So to fix that, digital all the way. I know of the risks, but I can't lose another game like that.

I'm not going to lie, I'm a bit lazy when it comes to organization.

Therefore 100% digital.

EDIT: For PC that is, console is 100% physical copies.

95% digital. Steam and better prices (due to €/$ (which doesn't hold true atm tho)). PSN Pre-load and stuff like that on top. I do buy used physical games every now and then tho (for consoles).

I was 100% physical last gen except for digital only stuff, obviously. This gen I'm like 85% digital. I go where the price is cheapest and digital sales have been way better so far

100% digital. I don't even have a disc drive. That shit is so archaic and a waste of space. Every time I see people pick up physical media at a store I'm reminded of the people who still harped about the superiority of VHS against DVDs.

Eventually it will go away and just be a novelty item that companies release.

console mostly. all digital. but, I want to buy Dragon Age 2 and it's still full price in the digital shop, which is just silly

100% digital on PC
100% physical on Wii U
70% physical on 3DS (games I always want on me like Smash and Animal Crossing are digital)
90% digital on Vita (Physical on games Im really excited for like Tearaway or P4G)

Even just a couple years ago I was almost all physical. This year I am about 80% digital, and the only games I buy physical are those that I know I will sell back the my local gaming store (used game market in Japan is great). I can usually get 50% or more if I sell it back pretty quickly.

All digital Wii U because of eShop card deals and the old DDP. All digital 3DS and Vita so I can have a huge mobile library. I started all digital on PS4 and am regretting it and slowly switching to physical (minus PSN games). Resale deals from best buy and target are too good to pass up when they have them and convenience for a home console really isn't a thing. As soon as I run out of eShop credit I'll do the same for the Wii U since there is no more DDP.

Im almost digital. I only buy physical versions of games if they are not available in the psn store due to censorship (Dying Light etc).

A mix.

Mostly physical with consoles because physical is cheaper, but when digital is cheaper I don't hesitate to buy a game that way.

With PC, I only buy digital now. Thought about buying some physical games from Best Buy to get GCU, but there's normally better deals anyways.

This gen I'm 100 percent digital. As I've gotten older I've fallen out of the collector mentality. I'll probably be dead within the next 20 years, so it seems kind of pointless to keep collecting useless shit.

Great outlook on life (unless you are already collecting security)

Mostly digital for PC.

Physical for console.

Digital for PC because better deals usually, and all major games are steamworks regardless.

Physical for console because better deals, large uncompressed files suck up HDD on ps4 and my 1.5 mbps connection is super slow downloading the uncompressed files.

I'd prefer to go all digital if possible. Or for consoles, install/register disc then don't have to use it again. I just don't like the idea of my discs getting scratched/deteriorate and find that more of a threat than my game access being revoked by publishers.

This gen has been all digital. I own one physical 8th Gen game (The Last of Us) for prosperity's sake, but all in digital this time around. No regrets^^ Note: I get pretty great download speeds, so this may not be viable for everyone.

Edit: make that two. I forgot my wife got me a physical copy of Persona 4 golden to help save room on my vita since it is one if my "always ready to go" games^^

I live in Japan, so on the PS4 I'm 90% digital, with the remaining 10% being the Japanese games that get released here (buy back prices are great).

On 3DS, I started physical, but have been slowly migrating to digital for a lot of stuff. It's prob still something like 60% physical, 40% digital?

On Vita it's a 50/50 split. Just depends on what's easily available and what isn't.

On the Wii U, both games I still own are digital, so I guess 100%? Hahaha.

Mostly physical for my consoles, but I have bought a few games digitally during flash sales and such. My Vita's 90% digital, and the few games I have on Steam are all digital too.

I usually buy physical since I love having a physical collection but I will go digital if its a game I'll play for years and/or play alot of online like Animal Crossing, Smash 3DS, Pokemon X, Mario Golf. I've only ever bought digital retail games on 3DS. Theres no point for PS4 or WiiU since they aren' portable and it wouldn't add much convenience for games I play for years and for Vita theres not really any online games I want. I may get in if its a super sale, almost did for that Sorcery Saga game but didn't quite have enough money, but 99% of the time I go physical.

Because I live in the U.S. and I effectively am only licensing any digital purchase, I pretty much only buy digital on deep discount. For example, I bought the recent BundleStars indie package that ended up basically being about fifty cents a game, not because I think the games aren't worth more in general, but that they ARE worth not that much in their digital formats under the laws we have now.

I will continue to be all physical, and the (farther off than people think) day that gaming goes all- or mostly-digital, I will just wait until halfway through the generation to get a console and only buy/license games on deep discount (ten bucks or less).

For PC i don't even think about it, digital every time.

For PS4, i buy my retail games physically. PS+ fills the digital needs.

I bought TLOU PS3 digitally after it was sold out everywhere.

4:1

No wait that's something else.

I buy physical for consoles and digital for handhelds and PC. But this gen I went digital for Wii U after the DDP and free game offer with Mario Kart 8.

I'm probably 95% digital, if not more. I'm the type that can't resist a great deal, so I'm a huge sucker for free games (PS+, Live Gold) and cheap games (steam, Humble Bundle, PS and XBLA sales). The only time I buy physical these days, is when I find a great in-store deal, or I just have to have a game day one. Even then, I will generally just get it digitally on PC for cheaper, or even consider buying it digital if I never plan on selling it.

Excluding digital-only games...probably 90% physical. The only reason that it isn't higher is because of a Vita sale a few months ago where I had more PSN credit than sense.

Unless bandwidth caps increase, I won't be doing much of anything digital whenever I finally get a PS4/XB1 either.

Wii U - Physical
PC - Digital

I suspect a lot of PC gamers would be royally fucked if Valve were to ever go under for some reason lol. Not likely to happen but hey.

I've moved away from consoles so it's been all digital for the last 2 years. This might cease if I decide to start collecting older games again.
