• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

So what's the digital/physical split on GAF?

I currently have 2 gaming devices: 3DS and PC.

With the exception of Chrono Trigger DS, my entire gaming catalogue is digital.

For me:

Consoles such as PS3/PS4 etc: Majority is Physical unless it's a game I know I will be playing constantly.

Handheld: Same as consoles.

PC: Pretty much 99% digital unless a physical copy can be purchased well under the online cost.

With PC, I don't see any incentive to getting physical since most PC games needs to be activated on whatever digital platform it's tied to which as a result, renders the physical disc useless.

100% digital on PC, PS4 and Vita. About 90% digital on PS3 as there is a handful of games that never got a digital release - would be 100% otherwise.

I am mostly a digital guy, because I don't like lending away copies or selling my games, so it's a real convenience.

The only time I buy physical is when digital is not available, or if I can save a lot of money. I.E, there's a pawn shop down the street from my house that has no idea how much old games are worth, and I've gotten many classics for as cheap as $3

PS3 is 13 Digital, 7 physical
WiiU is 19 digital, 11 physical

The rest is all physical. I just started recently with this.

PS4 - one physical launch game, 40+ digital games
VITA - 2 physical games, 50+ digital

Close to zero clutter in my house. Glorious.

Half and half. If it's a great price I'll get digital but like physical for collection. That said I have hundreds of games in the man cave and been looking to downsize.

1/2 Digital for 3DS, Vita, 100% digital for PC. I get physical on WiiU and PS4 when I can but sometimes I get digital. So I guess like 60:40 split between the two. I've found digital on portables to be so much more convenient.

Started the generation with physical only, but I've been gradually moving to digital.

This year I am at 2 digital games (not counting PS+) and 2 physical games so far.

Looking at releases for the rest of the year, this might be the first year I might end up buying more digital games than physical on a console.

Xbone is all digital, except for maybe Halo 5 we will see. That's collectors is pretty steep.
PS4/Wii U are physical except where inapplicable.

Physical is too expensive especially if I want English and physicals sells for petty much nothing anyways.

So digital for me. In the states I would probably still continue to buy physical though.

All retail games I buy are usually physical. However, next portable generation I wanna go as deeply digital as possible. I feel like it would make the device so much more convenient to use.

Im still Physical > Digital, simply for the option to sell and lend games to friends etc.

The idea of Digital is nice, and I do own a few titles (Mainly via PS+, XBL & Sales) but at the moment for a lot of titles the prices are just too steep.

I always buy physical unless digital is the only option/free. It's nice being able to lend games to a friend and have a collection I can touch.

Playing pretty much only on PC, so it would be a bit weird if digital purchases wasn't in a wast majority for me.

I would say that it's about 95% digital. The only physical copies I get now is kickstarter backer rewards. The collection aspect is the only purpose a physical copy would have for me, and I think that even that is barely worth anything for me.

The problem is, I want day one for my main consoles (Vita, PS4) so I go digital, and all my secondary consoles that I don't really care about I buy games second-hand (Wii U, 3DS) so I end up with this big impressive physical collection I don't give a shit about and absolutely nothing to show for my favourite consoles.

100% digital on Steam (of course) and 100% gamefly on Xbox One and Wii U.

I don't replay games, and honesty rarely finish them. I like to try stuff out until I get the gist of it and then move on to something new.

I used to force myself through games I had stopped enjoying and try to plow through backlogs. But i finally let it go and just play games for as long as I'm truly having fun. Very liberating to just send a game back to Gamefly and not feel guilty pressured like I have to beat it because I bought it and it's sitting there on the shelf looking at me.

With Steam it's fine too because I get most things on sale and then use the hide feature for games I know I won't go back to.

Don't buy digital I like owning my games and seeing them

I think I'm the type of person that will keep buying games physically until consoles don't give me an option anymore

There's something about seeing them all there together
Even tho I got unlimited internet usage and my speeds are great 45down 15up all my digitals are my indies and PS+ games with gold

Since July 2014 I'm 100% digital, because it's actually cheaper to buy like that than buying physical where I am.

Physical for games that I care about and want to be able to play in 30 years

Mix of digital/physical for everything else, whichever happens to be cheaper

Ever since moving back home from uni in the UK I've basically had to go digital.

Physical games don't release in my part of the world until after like 6-12 months from debut (at crazy prices) so it makes sense for me to go digital overall.

Does suck not being able to trade in anymore though.

I'm 100% physical.

In Australia, digital is almost always more expensive. Figure that one out.

If pricing was in line with US (exchange rates considered) I would probably opt digital.

Edit: This is for PSN

Talking new games the really important ones are physical, everything else it's rather price dependent. Now as I think of it it's rather 50-50.

I'm always a mix. If i I have a physical game and it comes up on PS+ I almost always will sell that physical copy and just keep the PS+ version.

I'm pretty much Physical, I got 34 PS4 games on disc but I buy digital when I have no choice like Resident Evil HD
I have around 10 digital but I'd buy them again if a disc was printed for them.

I'm kind of ambivalent. Currently all my games on PS4 are retail if possible, but on Wii U/3DS (even though Nintendo is still binding games to hardware x_x) I'm all digital. I started because of Nintendo Network Premium and the convenience of not having to carry 3DS cards or stand up to switch game discs and somehow I kept going this route.

Honestly even though I'm aware of all the letdowns of digital only which are present I'm just a lazy old fart and so I prefer digital. There you have it :P

Mostly digital, only buy physical if is a relatively new game that I'm interested on playing gets a surprisingly high discount.
