So who bought a next gen console rather then upgrading their PC?

This implies console games are any more impervious to fuckery. In these terrible modern times, they really aren't.
 
I'm close to doing the opposite for the first time. I'm eyeing an Alienware Alpha because PS4/XB1 don't have any exclusives I want, and because I want a new PC anyway. I own a WiiU, though, but still, this is the first time I'm not buying a Sony system early in its life cycle.
 
Got a PS4 and a Wii U and a HDMI audio receiver. Will upgrade my PC when the next round of vidya cards arrive and have at least 6GB of ram. I don't really care as most games released to this point still run on my 670. Just have to turn things down.
 
The last time I upgraded my PC was for Crysis, I loved that game and my PC was still capable at running new software up until the launch of the PS4/Xbox One. Though I must say i've lost a lot of interest in the PC market. What interested me were Valve titles, classic PC games, a few indie games like Cave story and Super Meat Boy and games like The Witcher. Most of modern PC gaming seems to be community related jokes like all these silly simulators. I just can't bring myself to enjoy what's currently on offer so I happily opted for an Xbox One/Wii U combo. At least I won't miss out on The Witcher 3 :)
 
I think I would have upgraded my video card but I'm stuck with nVidia as I've got a 3D vision rig and they utterly seem to think that 2Gb is more then enough VRAM for the average consumer. Why they keep releasing new cards with only 2Gb of memory is beyond me.

You must not be paying attention, because there is more variety than ever. More of everything. Sure, Valve doesn't seem very interested in doing single player stuff anymore, but I don't see how you could be interested in the PS4/XBO libraries and not be interested in what's available on the PC unless the minuscule amount of current-gen first-party exclusives are deal breakers for you.

They're finally moving onto 4GB at the $350 level. The 970 is probably going to be the sweet spot for a good while.
 
Kept the 570 GTX and got the PS4. A year later got a used 280X for $150 so everything's good. Now i get the best of both worlds.

Yeah pretty much: 2014 I gave it a chance to "next gen" it was a dissapointment, sold both consoles already... I have a gtx970 and a Wii U now, good stuff. Regardless of visuals or hardware, the console business model is what's kiling the console, generic over priced AAA games bore my to tears, Open Platforms for the win yoo.
 
I'll only upgrade my PC when mainstream 8gb cards come out (by mainstream I mean with reasonable prices where I live).

I know I already posted but it is kinda late do edit that.
 
I did both and my consoles (PS4, X1, and WiiU) have been packed up in the boxes (we had our floors refinished and had to pack up everything and move it out temporarily) for months and I'm not even sure what games coming out will make me want to take them out of storage.

As for me: Nope. I did just the opposite. I was going to get a PS4 but as soon as Sony required their rental service to play online, I NOPE.avi'd so hard I bought a PC. Don't regret it, but I probably do need to upgrade the GPU and CPU sometime down the line.
 
Yeah I did. My PC needed a new graphics card but I instead opted to grab a PS4.

Happy with the decision so far, and I still intend to get a new card in the next year.

The 900 series of cards starts at 4 gb. Hell, I had a 680 with 4 gb.

Haven't really kept up with the thread but also confused why you're harping on Wolfenstein PC vs PS4 with a 560, which came out many years before the PS4. I played through Wolfenstein on PC with my 680, getting well above 60 FPS with higher graphical settings and no hitching or whatnot.
 
I went with ps4 because it's cheaper and less hassle. plus i prefer sony exclusives. For someone who is all about movies and games ps4 just seems like the best bet because i can easily hook it up to my TV, the console itself is small in size and it gets the best multiplats as well as exclusives.

2GB is enough unless you want to run ultra textures, but if you're buying a cheap GPU you really don't want to use them anyway. I understand not wanting to upgrade to a GPU with 2GBs though.

I'm running an i5 and a 7870xt. I get slightly better performance and settings than PS4 and while I wouldn't mind getting a 970 it's not quite worth it.

I was going to get a PS4 for Bloodbourne, but I changed my mind. I will get a PS4 probably around the holidays once they lower the price. In the mean time I'm thinking I need a new monitor and maybe a 750ti in my HTPC.
 
I am considering doing that this year. I have an i7 930 with a 670 extreme edition (factory oc'd).It can keep up at the moment, but only just. In particular my prprocessor is below min spec for a unity and witcher 3 (though I expect it will be fine oc'd).
When I upgrade my pc next it is going to be a fairly comprehensive thing, I will need a new course, motherboard, ram and would upgrade graphics card as well = expensive. It's an expense I would like to put off for a couple of years.
I could see myself rustling up a few £hundred quid for a ps4 this year. It will mostly be exclusives that swing that though. I imagine my pc will keep up with the ps4 on all the multiplats.
 
Did both PC and XBox One.

I upgraded my PC because I wanted to fart around with Unity with the outside chance of joining ID@Xbox.


On the PC side, I cheaped out for 2 reasons. 1 to save money and 2 because I wanted a PC somewhat close to the XBox one so that the Performance would be similar on both platforms.

I was able to update to a new motherboard with FX4100 cpu/8GB ram and a HD7770 for ~$250
 
I chose to build a PC instead of buying either next gen console.

My GTX670 would have served me ok for a while, certainly doing equal or better than console-equivalent performance on multiplatform titles. But I still decided to upgrade to a GTX970 over getting a next-gen console as I want to play modern titles at 60fps.

And I will probably either get a 2nd GTX970 or upgrade my CPU/mobo/RAM before I get a next gen console as I want a 1440p monitor sometime in the next year or two(and something that can handle higher end Oculus Rift experiences).

Basically, I'm all in for the PC scene right now. Consoles have too few must-have exclusives now or even in the coming year to justify the price since I already have a competent rig. At least on PC, there's always thousands of games available and upgrading my hardware is like upgrading my entire game library with perpetual Remaster editions.
 
Both here also. However, I got the PS4 and Xbox One for free (nothing shady). I also upgraded last year to an i7 4770k, Samsung 512gb SSD, 780 and 16gb of DDR3 1600MHz RAM.

Though, as I'm insane, I just upgraded again to a 980 and 16gb of DDR3 2400MHz RAM. Luckily my girlfriend understands my obsession :(
 
I did. The PC I want to build is around $1200 while I was able to scoop up an Xbone for around $300 around Black Friday. I expect there will only be a handful of AAA games I will want to play this gen so the Xbone will be, "good enough" for now. Obviously when you factor in the annual live subscription plus the cost savings per game during STEAM sales the price differential isn't nearly as drastic, but my old PC plus the Xbone will suffice for the next year or two.

I don't know... the first few years of the last console generation were pretty bleak for PC gaming when it came to availability (and quality) of console ports. The indie scene really hadn't taken off yet, PC at retail was dying or dead, and a lot of old PC devs were jumping ship to work on consoles and kind of ignoring the PC platform. Not only that, but the games that did come over were often plagued with Games For Windows Live. I remember it being pretty bad until around 2008...

Also, the 360 version of Bioshock was pretty damn good!
 
There's always been games I built my PC's for in the past. I had to play Battlefield 1942, I had to play Half-Life 2 and Doom 3, I had to play Crysis, so I built machines for those respective titles. Currently there isn't a game that makes me feel like I need to build a new tower even though it's starting to really show its age. I don't think I can eek by on minor upgrades for much longer and pretty soon I'm simply not going to be able to play some of the bigger releases. Yet my current rig can play Dota 2 and WoW just fine so that doesn't really bother me all that much.

I did buy a PS4 instead of putting that money towards a new tower and I kind of regret doing so, even without there being something to shoot for.
 
I did the same thing. Bought Destiny bundle PS4 last october, and I'm planning on keeping my GTX 670 for now.

Then again, I could also upgrade to 970. But do I really need it? Running with I5 3570K @ 4Ghz and GTX 670 currently.

Most good pc exclusives still run on my 2010 laptop so no.

Just went with a ps4.

If blizz makes a game I cant play ill consider it.
 
I was heavy into PC gaming but got my hands on a ps4 and now that is what I play 90% of the time.

PC is the master race but for me there are too many games and great multiplayer games go dry quickly(I miss you Monday Night Combat). At least with a smaller library to me it seems all the PS4 games have a healthy multi-player community.

I danced with the gods but enjoy my time with the morals more.
 
I did. Bought an x1 and ps4. My pc is a 2500k, 8gb 1600mhz ddr3, and a 7950. Still buying my multiplats on pc and reserving the consoles for exclusives. Will upgrade my gpu maybe middle of the year.

I think we will see more multi platform games that use 3Gb or more of Vram as we get further into this generation and it's entirely possible that PS4 will be able to do the same. That's what I'm hoping for.
 
I did neither, I bought a Vita.

There are not any next-gen games out right now that I want, and I have a really big backlog of games from last gen(s) to still play (MGS series, Souls series, few Tales of games, Ratchet and Clank series, Super Mario Galaxy series, Xenoblade Chronicles, just to name a few).

I'm thinking late this year or sometime early next year I'll buy a PS4. My PC can handle most Indie games, but not AAA. I figured I may as well get a PS4 as my main machine...since I want to play games exclusive (or console exclusive) to it the most (Persona 5, FF XV, FF Type-0, Uncharted 4, etc)

Do you think that's true?

We've got about 20 million PS4s in the market, with maybe half of them on PlayStation Plus, making the maximum worldwide potential player base of any online game around 10 million. That's not that big. Didn't we see stuff like Killzone: Shadowfall having only a few hundred people online a few months after launch? That game did over a million copies, too!
 
I did the opposite. I built a gaming PC instead of buying a PS4 for myself. I did end up getting a PS4 for my son though, bit of a waste to make his Christmas, he mainly plays Minecraft on it before going back to the Wii U.

Damn, how pretentious do you have to be? Just say you liked PC but now prefer your PS4. There's nothing wrong with that. There's no need to have such flamboyant justification

My card will get me through the early years of this gen, I'm more interested in the console exclusives at the moment, and I was ready to have an upgraded media center experience. I plan on building a new PC once the consumer Rift launches.
 
I've got all three consoles, as I like exclusives from them all. What I generally don't like are the PC only games. So it was an easy choice to not update my old PC and only use a Windows notebook in the house and put the old gaming PC in the closet.
 
I skipped the new consoles and upgraded my PC ... And bought a Wii U. Best decision ever.
Maybe a ps4 slim in 2 years. Depends on exclusive library

It could just be an illusion or the fact I like a lot of indie games and from my play experience they don't do well for player base on steam after the first week or two.
 
I would need to buy a new computer completely from scratch (with a monitor, windows, etc.) so I got a PS4 for now. Still want to get a new gaming PC eventually, but it'll be a big financial undertaking for me so it's currently on the backburner.
