So Who Thinks Uncharted 3 Will Top Uncharted 2?

Am under NDA so I should be careful, but I've seen a bit more from the single player and all signs point to to yes for me. The addition of Co-op Adventure seems to be a good one, am really looking forward to that.

I will add that I adored the beta as well, it will be the multiplayer game I will invest most of my time in this year. Not a big fan of first person shooters and the mobility, verticality and sheer variety easily put this ahead of Gears for me. And for those who don't like the medals and boosters and all, there is always Hardcore mode.

There are lots of third games that are amongst the best, if not the best, in a series by the way. Super Mario Bros 3, Metal Gear Solid 3 and Devil May Cry 3 to name but a few.

Ah, finally, new page.

Call me crazy, but I would have to try an Unkarted game if they made one.
It would be the best looking racer this generation with crazy set pieces that are better than split second and mptorstorm

Uncharted 2 was a very big improvement from 1, i doubt the gap will be the same berween 2 and 3.
I trust the dogs, but i really can't imagine a way to do something better than uncharted2.

No doubt it will sell better than 2, but I don't think there will be a major jump in the SP.
Don't care about the MP.

Really? How about implementing more feedback from the guns and better animation (when the enemies get hit) so the shooting is ultimately more satisfying and fun?

How about implementing better boss fights (or not even bother trying) so we don't end up with stupid arbitrary shit like having to shoot a helmet off a human's head before you can damage his body?

How about creating bigger and better environments so you don't have to rely on randomly mashing the X button on every surface before you can find the single arbitrary pre-determined path that you can climb to proceed? Nate can climb all kinds of concrete and rock surfaces but yet is unable to scale a simple wire fence?

Why are people so easily satisfied?

Well, they've acknowledged that the villains have been very weak in each game. The general feeling was that the end boss fight in U2 was the worst part of the game. That's something that they're trying to address in U3. That'll certainly help it over U2 if they can pull it off.

Because its flashy, quite exciting, polished, well presented and mostly a pretty darn fun ride.

As long as there are no Drake-Kart as the picture above will be fine.

I hope it gets better story wise. Love them both but played UC2 first and then played Drakes Fortune.

Maybe i'm the few who liked more some parts of the first scenes in the Drakes Fortune than the UC2.

By the way are any of the SP locations revealed? Any oriental-style place to go in the story?

sales will depend on how much sony spends on advertising. its actually pretty simple.

but also have to factor in that its going to be super shooter heavy this holiday as well which does mean less pie left over for each game.

mw3
bf3
resistance 3
gears 3
uncharted 3
saints row 3
mass effect 3 (if it didnt get delayed)

for PS3 and 360
all shooters all 3s, industry is complete shit.

Saints Row 3 isn't a shooter and Uncharted 3 and Mass Effect 3 are that arguably. With the last one not coming out this year. Nevertheless, there are a lot of shooters but don't say the industry shit because there are also a lot of other things.

Despite all its flaws, for two years the first Uncharted was the only "must have" exclusive on the PS3 (nothing against MGS4 -- if you didn't play the others you weren't invited to the party)

U2 converted the series into "AAA IP" although personally wasn't blown away.

U3 has tons of room to improve.

Considering Crash 3 and Jak 3 were the best in their series- I would say uncharted 3 will be the best, it won't be the jump that was from 1-2. But it should be good.

Didn't play the multiplayer enough to tell if i liked it more or less than U2 multiplayer.

I don't know, U2 will be pretty hard to top. I was pretty much mindblown all the way through the game, minus couple of longer, bit tiresome firefights.

So now you praise games that aren't even out for doing what they're supposed to do? A sequel has to be better than its predecessor in my opinion... Yay thread.

Depends on the quality of SP in the game for me. Some minor tweaks here and there on top of varied level design will give us a better game. MP isn't my thing so I just hope the focus will stay on SP.

Unkarted

And to answer the OP: Everything at this point seems to indicate UC3 is the best in the series yet.

I don't know if my mind can contemplate more awesomeness than Uncharted 2.

The MP is certainly better, so bring on the single player!

As always, I worry about the heavy MP focus. Provided SP doesn't have any reduced attention paid towards it, then there shouldn't be a problem topping UC2.

I think U3 will be better, but it won't the same impact. The MP has a lot of potential though, the ideal scenario would be that MW3 turns into a disaster, and tons of people switch to U3. It's very unlikely though, and people could just turn to Battlefield 3 as well.

UC2 provided like one of the top three (many say the best) sp exeprience this gen. Worries pre-release about the sp on that title might have been somewhat justified as they had to establish all the multiplayer technology in that dev cycle. UC2 ended up with an extremly good sp portion and a deep mp portion with co-op focused missions, replay recordings, machinima tools, boosters and playlists etc. Such worries are unfounded for UC3 since the hard part is already dealt with and accomplished with their last title.

Technically better, with some slight improvements for the rest.
And I'll love it.
Uncharted 2 for me had a timeless feeling. It got the mix right. Exploring, visiting awesome locations paired with nice cover shooter gameplay. And a story that was really well executed.
Only niggle:
The final boss was lame. LAME. After the fight with the Yeti-like monster I expected something really cool for the final confrontation. I really hope they will do it better this time.

I wonder what Naughty Dog expects the reaction to the game will be. They must have an idea at this point in development.

I think the gameplay mechanics and level design will have slight improvements. The set pieces will be bigger and the story and characters should be as strong as ever. They've learned from having a weak main villain and I think they understand the "flow" of the story in the genre. They should have learned on handling the monsters as well as boss fights, Im not really worried about those. Graphically, when its all said and done, I think it'll be the best on consoles (considering visuals, animation, physics and especially particle effects) and have a noticeable improvement from Uncharted 2. But I dont think that's enough. The only way for naughty to meet expectations and surpass U2 is to exceed expectations-the game has to surprise us. Its the only way it'll have a similar impact to U2 and raise the bar even further.

I think the co-op will be a huge improvement over U2 and will be amazing. I'm indifferent on the multiplayer.

I think the game will sell much faster than U2, too.

If they find the Uncharted equivalent of time trials (Crash 3) or light/dark powers and driving (Jak 3) they will continue the tradition of their third in a series being the best game on the console (yeah I said it)

I don't see any reason why not. Naughty Dog haven't announced any terrible new gameplay changes that would ruin the series.

Wow, am I really the only one who thinks that Uncharted 1 was better than Uncharted 2? Uncharted 2 looked great, but it felt extremely pre-baked. From what I've seen, Uncharted 3 will be even worse.

For the love of god please no boss fights. Every boss fight in the game was rubbish.

from the big moments in the game The train ride which even now impresses ,Shambhala which was jaw dropping when you start the chase at the beginning of that stage even though the blue guys were not fun to fight at all.

The whole Nepal segment was almost perfect best part of the game for me. Lovely views, lots of street battles and space to move around and plan how you want to attack.

The problem they face is do they go even crazier and OTT and potentially push things a bit too far or wind back a bit.

Having read this entire thread. Yes your the only one.

I probably haven't played such a relentless, well-paced action game since RE4.

Yep, completely agree with this. Uncharted 2 is the best game since Resident Evil 4.

**awesome pic**

You know what? I'd genuinely be excited for an Unkarted game. Imagine driving around in the train level from Uncharted 2! All the ingredients are set and it would seriously kick ass!

And that pic reminded me that Crash 3 is the best in that trilogy. Throw in the
sinking ship
video and the Comic Con cut-scene and things are looking really good for Uncharted 3.

I don't understand how UC2 can feel pre-baked when it had a longer campaign than UC1 and Multiplayer on top of that. I think, when UC3 is out and we get a good overview of the trilogy, UC1 will seem like the odd one, but it was still a great game.

The train ride which even now impresses

I said it in my LTTP for Uncharted 2 awhile ago, but as cool as the train ride was, it wasn't even close to the most memorable 'big moment' for me in Uncharted 2. Most of it didn't even register as anything all that impressive for me.

The multiplayer for UC3 already has topped UC2 by a landslide. After putting in lots of time with the beta I can safely say that I no longer give a shit about any of the other mp shooters coming out this year.

so they just need to match/top the sp from UC2 and they're golden.

I've mentioned this before too, but it over stays its welcome. Graphically itÂ’s gorgeous and overall itÂ’s still a cool part of the game....but towards the end of it I just wanted it to end. The lame and frustrating 'mini boss' didn't help too : /

I'm remaining cautiously optimistic. As long as they dont't let the massive critical success of uc2 get to their heads, and start getting lazy and sloppy it should turn out great. I don't know whether it'll be better than 2 or if it'll sell more but I'm hoping they can come up with fresh and exciting stuff for uc3.

I was pretty much over competitive online shooters but then the uc3 came out and I played it to death and loved every minute of it. Very excited for the whole package.

I think Uncharted shooting mechanics and traversing could use some more polish, for the rest you can ask more, but the awesome would just be too much?

Please keep in mind that this is just my opinion.

I know Uncharted gets a lot of love, but to me, Uncharted 2 was one gigantic scripted event. Move two steps forward and something will break, crash, explode or fall down.
Not that Uncharted 1 was that different, but it felt fresh, started off calmer and I was willing to believe that Drake was just an Adventurer that got himself into trouble.
Uncharted 2 was just too much over the top action and by killing hundreds of "war-criminals", the characters started to lose their credibility.
I would've loved to see an Uncharted game (same universe, same character's etc) that would allow different play styles. Not something like "of course you can sneak. You can do it -> here and -> here". But I guess the graphics would suffer from that.
That said, I get why people like it. But I just don't. And I honestly hope that the Tomb Raider reboot won't use the same formula.

Besides great action and general gameplay, the story for this one needs a bit more emotional resonance and the relationships between the characters more depth. Reviewers and fans will react favorably to that and it will put this one over the top compared to 2.

When I hear Amy Hennig in interviews she sounds well-grounded and sharp as a tack and she understands that the characters and their relationships are what separates this game from the pack. So I wouldn't be surprised if story-wise this one tops 2.

They have put more scripted events in the 2nd game, because ND wants to bring cinematic experience to their game. It's just like watching a movie.
It's just a different style of making games.

Edit: Have you watch the BF3 trailer? From the trailer you should have noticed some of the scripted events , like your teammate gets shot down, you cant prevent this happening. Nowadays, more developers wants to bring cinematic experience to their games.
