The problem with your arguments so far ITT is that they assume that people accept part of your premise as absolute truth, in this case, "people need to wear some damn clothes." I would never go outside naked, even were it perfectly acceptable to do so - or at least, not illegal to do so - but that's not really what we're arguing about.

Now granted, this is a fairly common viewpoint, but you need to justify it with something more than its popularity or its apparent obviousness if we're going to have a reasonable discussion.

So this goes for you, or anyone else really who feels that way... Why do you think the state has the right to regulate its citizenry's dress or prohibit their nudity? Is it an act of aggression to be naked? Do you have an inherent right to not see someone else walking around naked? Tell us the logical backing for your point of view.

Hey, I'm in the mood to argue, but not so badly I'd help argue the opposition's case for them. If you take a side, you make up the reasons.

The argument to counter this is obvious - the topless / naked woman is not responsible for the actions of the person that sexually assaults her. The mere act of being nude does not make you into someone that will molest children. So forth and so on.

People that would commit an aggressive act like a sex crime need to be locked up, and probably for the rest of their lives.

To demonstrate your case, you'd have to show a high incident rate of rape and whatnot in nudist colonies.

If the argument you're up against is "Why can't people walk around nude, please explain?" then this line of reasoning falls flat.

That doesn't explain the numerous societies that managed not devolve into a rapeathon while making no such restrictions of women going topless. This is just cultural interia, not the natural state of how things must be. "But it's tradition!!!" isn't a real argument.

Well, granted I can't help but ogle on account of being weak-willed, but that's not their fault, now is it?

I dunno, it's just kind of odd to have a public dress code. Don't see any logical reason for the rule of law to tell us what to wear.

Of course, since every private business and workplace and whatnot have the right to exclude you based on your dress, it kind of means you have to conform to a certain norm anyway. This is more of a fine point, principle-of-the-thing issue, but that doesn't make it a non-issue.

One one hand if women were to be allowed to bare their breasts, would it result in less attention? Would men become "used" to it much as men became used to women bearing their legs? It would probably feel good for women to be able to remove their tops on a hot day, not to mention bras can atrophy the muscles which hold the breasts up, leading to stronger muscles and perkier breasts (but in reality time will have it's way and breasts do sag after a while, no matter what you do.)

Now, on the other hand breasts are a sexual organ. The breasts are made to look like the rear, which is necessary in us bipedal creatures, because we don't walk around on all-fours with our face right up to the rear of the other person in front of us. Human females are the only mammals that always have swollen breasts. Our bipedal motion is the reason for this.

Being a sexual organ, the opposite sex is naturally attracted to this feature. This may cause unwanted attention on the female.

I don't solely see it from a perspective of what the government can and can't tell us to do. Public nudity is falls into the social norm category in this country. Behavior in violation of this is deemed unacceptable; laws on the subject have been molded by this mores, and the majority of society seems to agree.

Do I have an inherent right to not see someone walking around naked? No. But society universally demands it, just as they wouldn't accept publicly displayed sexual acts.
