So, would the Dragonborn work in Smash for Switch?

That's different

He/she had an iconic look even if they didnt have an iconic skillset.

The dragonborn not only lacks a unique skillset, he/she also lacks a definitive look. He/she could literally be anyone.

No bueno.

Sakurai plays TES and Fallout from what I remembered.

With that said he doesn't have to put in everything. Hell he doesn't even have to make him talk, just grunt.

Also Master Chief in Smash would definitely scream hype.

Well, that's pretty cool to hear. Is there somewhere he's specifically talked about them? I'm curious now.

and yeah, he doesn't have to but he tends to. Especially with third party characters, even if some of them are trailer-only like Cloud's trailer having a reference to his motion sickness. Sakurai's level of detail added to a character and series like Elder Scrolls feels like it'd be absolutely bonkers and it's something I'd love to see.

There's simply no other RPGs that have achieved Skyrim's success. If it's not groundbreaking, I don't know what should I call it.

It's not. Groundbreaking would imply that it pushed the medium/genre forward or backward in some significant way but it didn't. Oblivion was groundbreaking, Skyrim was just following in it's footsteps.

the Male Nord in full iron armor is the iconic look, and actually one of the most popular or recognizable things from last gen, but that is a boring look compared to the character that everyone made for themselves, so you'll always be compromising. Cooler would be it it randomly chose a race and gender at the start of the match.

you could argue it's a step back

oblivion may have really wonky radiant ai, but they actually tried to give them life, can't say the same for skyrim

Broad simple design with a mask on at all times (so you get that silhouette of the dragon skull in promo artwork).

They'd be slow and powerful with close range attacks and a lot of super armor. Would be difficult to use, highly punishable if you miss an attack, devastating if you got hit by one, horrible jump and likely towards the heavier end of characters. It would basically be the kind of character you cannot make a mistake with if you play as them or you'll get your ass handed to you. Don't even bother with jumping, because the aerials would be worse than Lil Mac.

Whether or not they get in...I'd err on the side of not likely.

I just don't think it'd work because the art design is so drastically different in comparison to every character there.

Its not as huge as Snake on Brawl and that worked just fine, it could totally work. It really just depends on Sakurai/Nintendo/Whoever is in charge of the next one to want it to happen.

I feel like Tracer is one of the few western third-party characters that they could pull off in Smash really well but I almost wonder if it'd be too premature to have the first western third-party be someone that recent. But at the same time Overwatch seems big enough to get away with...

There will never be DA Inquisition, MGSV, and The Witcher 3 as they are now if Skyrim doesn't exist. While Skyrim didn't actually invent the concept, but it has inspired many devs and studios to convert their franchises into open world. Some of the devs have even said that they're hugely inspired by Skyrim. The open world trend has just started after Skyrim. I'm not saying it gave a positive effect to the industry, as I understand that many people loathed open world games. But it certainly is an inspiration for many.

You could say that but at the same time, Skyrim was basically just continuing what GTA had already started.

This is the game where you can pit Samus against Kirby, Marth against Mario, and Bayonetta against Sonic the Hedgehog.
It's funny. I think Ganondorf looks the most out of place character in smash 4. The bright colors and more Cartoony style makes look like a goofball rather then King of Evil.

This is the series that made people pay for Roy.

I mean, let's be fair here, people DID want Roy back for Smash 4. He did gain a bit of a cult following in Melee. Sakurai noted his popularity here http://sourcegaming.info/2016/02/23/nintendo-dream-interview-with-sakurai-part-2/

I was aware that, following Mewtwo, Lucas and Roy also enjoy considerable popularity. If we were to bring back a total of three fighters, I knew we couldn’t go wrong with these three.

Should also note the Project M team busting their balls off to get Roy back in the game.

Maybe I'm just bitter because we already had Lucina for the tipper-free Marth clone niche, and then Corrin also got added as a DLC FE character who actually managed to be unique in spite of concerns.

I just don't get the appeal of Roy at all. I don't really like the "x character doesn't deserve to be in" game and I'm not even bothered by the whole "oh x franchise has to have y number of characters" thing (each of the other FEs are totally cool with me) which I think is ridiculous but... Eh.... Roy, I just don't get it.

I feel like we're ignoring the real issue. Who actually wants the dragonborne in Smash? I sure as hell don't.

The fanbase loves to scream and shout about what character does and doesn't deserve to be in so much I stopped caring about how many an individual one pleases. They don't even like "free" characters with low dev time that wouldn't get them another if it wasn't spent like Lucina and Dark Pit.

Oblivion already did that. There were tons of Oblivion clones after it released.

People still salty that beloved characters from the increasingly popular Fire Emblem series got all the attention while their flops favorites remain as obscure and ignored as their franchises.

Anyway! I thought that after Cloud, Duck Hunt, Snake and Bayonetta appeared in the game we all could learn that there are no solid rules about what kind of characters could be in Smash and yet here we are.

So you people really want that stupid "took an arrow to the knee" meme showing up in Smash? Smash Bros. is a respected series, this isn't the place for internet memes.

Maybe the Portal chick can show up too then and they can toss in some fresh "cake is a lie" jokes while they're at it. (At least she's an actual character unlike Dragonborn)

At least Portal 2 Chell. She could have potato Glados have quotes. Actually, that'd be pretty cool.

No many of them are player avatars with no personality rather than characters.
Those player avatars with no personalities are from Nintendo games though so they're immediately more iconic than some schmuck who was the mascot of a game that sold over 20 million copies. Or something.

Honestly, I feel like Namco should get another one after Capcom and SEGA both got two.
This is probably fair.

But c'mon, I want a Monster Hunter. And considering the impact Monster Hunter has had on handhelds, it's not that unfair of a request.

Chell is a silent protagonist who literally has no personality or voice. Not seeing the difference. Also not seeing the difference with a lot of Nintendo mascots.

Heh that title gave me a quick chuckle. I don't see it happening.

Let's be real, Smash for Switch will be the same as Smash for Wii U but with like 10 more Fire Emblem sword fighters and maybe Ice Climbers if we're lucky.

Ephraim and Eirika with the Ice Climbers gimmick.

I actually want this.

Bullshit, Oblivion did all that. All Skyrim added were the radiant quests that luckily everyone except Bethesda recognized as an awful, awful idea.

He's representing a single entry in a series whose first Nintendo title is a 5 month old 5 year old remaster.
He's also a rather generic looking character outside of his helmet. A mii costume is the most I think it would deserve
