so zelda:tp has a game killing bug (or: how to remove wolf rats)

Hopefully it'll be like Phantom Hourglass (in that it'll redefine the interface) and it'll have more development time and a bigger budget.

:lol

It was poorly done... the animation on Link shouldn't have been so deceptive, considering you were in a room full of sand!

Aye. The fact that the burden animation and the quicksand animation is the same is really what can make you believe it's a bug. If you were just resorted to "walking" in the quicksand than it would have been more clear that you were being attacked by invisible ghost rats. I actually thought it was a bug for some time, but then I realized that Nintendo had better QA then that. It would have been far too obvious of a bug.

It reminds me
In the temple of time when you have to use the statue to destroy the beamos. It took me 2 hours. I've tried all the possibilities. -_-

Don't feel too bad about it. I, like many others here, couldn't figure it out at first either. I thought it was a bug, but maybe only because I kind of encountered one only about 15 mins before in the game. When I defeated an enemy, its body got thrown up on a high wall and the key got stuck up there. Took me a while before I realised that I could use the boomerang to get it.

as opposed to their overt didactic THIS IS WHAT YOU DO NEXT hints that nintendo games drop way too often.

That's why I liked Pikmin so much.

Also, it felt kind of obvious when Link started to grind along instead his jog. If you play Wind Waker, you start to associate Link being slow with the rat things (except that now they're invisible).

The presence of quicksand in the room is what made it a puzzle. Making you wonder why you just stepped out of the quicksand but are still walking slow was the whole point!

I figured out they were rats but I couldn't figure out how to get them off me. It's the only time I used a FAQ for the game.

Figured it out easily. There was a room not even 15 minutes earlier that explained exactly what was going on. You saw Link slow down, Midna told you to check your senses, and you saw the rats. next time it happened, it seemed like the obvious thing to check your senses again.

I had the same problem, to be such a brilliant company, Nintendo throws some really stupid shit in their games sometimes. I still smoked that shit in like 26 hours with no help of a guide!

Is everyone fucking dense?

Sometimes i feel like I'm in the very small minority of gamers who thought "hmmm, something I cant see is slowing me down, better try my senses. Oh there we go".

And you KNOW you are when you make a whole thread thinking it's a glitch. Not to come off as mean but WOW. Helo thar neofaqs.

I kinda sorta figured it out in 2 seconds, because of the loud squeaking noises and ghosts clinging to me, that I had to use the B button attack.

i think people have a legitimate beef here.. the reason is that the puzzle makes no sense. Why don't the rats fall off when you do a spin attack in wolf or human form. Why do you have to go into "sense" mode to shake them off. It certainly makes no sense. That being said, it wasn't hard to figure out.

im in the desert dungeon in a quick sand filled room (at the bottom of the elevator shaft).. every time i play it it glitches and link walks real slowly even when on foot.

Sounds like a bug in RL.

Ehr..don't know if it's the best example..
But since the rats are "ghosts" is the same reason, as to why in every game/movie/etc you can only attack ghosts when you seen them...so who knows; don't know the actual explanation for this.

to compound this there is a stone door i have to pull open.. then get through the door before it shuts... bc of the glitch, i cant make it...

is this a known bug or do i have a bad copy?

:lol :lol :lol

i had no problem with the rats in the sand dungeon at all.
but i didn't remember them when i was in hyrule castle (took kind of a gaming break between) and in this one room, where you had to jump over some holes in the floor, i thought "damn
ganon
, even fucking around with gravity this time!" :lol

i almost made a foolish gaf post when i encountered this as well.
...

IAWTP.

The amount of people who actually don't bother to pay attention to the game is astounding. When I first encountered those rats they stopped me in my tracks, I think just attacked to no avail, switched to Wolf mode and attacked to no avail and then switched on senses and there they were.

All you need to do is think about what you are doing and the game and you would never think this was a game killing bug...

When I first encountered the invisirats and heard their squeaks, I instantly remembered that trailer where Wolf Link is standing there, then he suddently has rats all over him (E3 2005 I think?).

The squeaks are a dead giveaway though.

It got me too, I was wandering why he was moving so slowly, I figured the analogue was only picking up part of it's parameters or something. Reset it and had the same problem, couldn't for the life of me figure it out till I started messing about with the wolf sense.

I knew to check my wolf sense immediately, but there were more than a few instances where I seemed to miss the most obvious solutions.
There was that part where you needed the smell of that fish whose trail led you to the 4th temple. I didn't realize I needed to sniff it with the wolf.

This is brilliant. I love this. This is what makes Zelda, a Zelda. Excellent stuff.

I can't beleive so many of you came out of the wood work, and admitted to thinking it was a bug. I immedietly knew it was a puzzle. I didn't get it quickly, about 5-10 mins, prolly, but I never thought it a glitch.

One glitch that I did find was, in the sky Temple, when holding one of those Hylian creatures above you head, look at Link's shadow, there is no creature above his head. Only a shadow of Link, with his empty hands up in the air. I haven't seen this listed anywhere but my own posts in the Official thread. That's what happens when you play the game for around 200+ hours.

No, I'm not joking. This started the days after the game was out. Topics were all over IGN and GameFAQs. "Game Ending Glitch!!!" would be the titles, and inside it would be "High, I'm in Arbiters Grounds" or "High, I'm in Hyrule Castle" and followed by "And I can't move! What is going on? Bug!!!"

Yeah...added that shit to www.gannon-banned.com fast.

I like this for the clever little puzzle that it is, but it did take me a bit to figure it out. I just happened to turn into a wolf once while trying to figure out why I never made it through the quicksand.

8 months later, this "glitch" is still legendary. Come on, it took me like 8 seconds to figure out what just happened.

If you save in Cannon Room at the wrong time, the first time you are there and quit, game bugs and doesnt let you out of the room. Anyway, this bug was fixed in other versions outside USA (I think) and it only happens on Wii.

I can't believe so many people think this is a glitch. I remember that the room turns fricking BLUE and you see the footsteps of the rats. I didn't associate it at all with walking in the sand. It took me a full 6 seconds to figure it out.
