I've already beaten SOCOM 3. I haven't even played Battlefield 2 yet. But I want a game that's gonna be fun to take online and have fun with. Can I go wrong with either of these games? I'm usually accustomed to Socom games for online fun.

What do you guys think?

I never thought I'd say it, but I had way more fun with Battlefield 2: MC online. It's quicker and more arcade, but it was better looking and more fun. Socom 3 online hit me totally bad this time around, but the larger maps with the bugginess and poor graphics was just too much.

I thought they were pretty equal, from what I've heard, but Gamespot gave SOCOM 3 something like a 9.3 and B2:MC a 7.6. I basically want a game that I'll have fun playing online with... they both seem to support the headset (which I have to get for when I get MGS3:S ) which is almost mandatory for ps2 online users these days.

rent and try? if Gamespot gave socom that high, they were high. but a lot of hardcore guys still like it so...I know gamespot gave bf2 a hard time for the single player, and it is just a light add on, but the game was a blast online. plus it's a ticket game, with respawns and bases, so it has a much faster pace. that's really what you should consider. if you like the deliberateness of socom, you should probably give it a go. I don't mind that, but I felt like this was one iteration too far on the console.

I would choose Battlefield 2 in a heartbeat. The vehicles in BF2 just push it over the top IMO. Not to mention the smooth framerate and almost no problems with online play.

To this day I still wonder how BF2 got so many so-so review scores. It just amazes me when I think it's probably the best console multiplayer game i've ever played.

never played or read anything about BF2 for consoles, but the PC version completely destroys SOCOM, or any other console based tactical multiplayer shooter.

so if the PS2 version is faithful to the PC version, then I would suspect that its better than SOCOM 3.

Uh no, the PS2 version is nothing like the PC versions.

SOCOM 3 is much better than MC. The maps in MC are not that great and are essentially all the same. The only things it has over SOCOM 3 are graphics and vehicle selection, but you don't need helicopters in SOCOM 3. Plus S3 has many gameplay types while MC is basically just a huge control points game. Plus there's not much of a team aspect in MC.
