SOCOM 4 Bomb Squad Revealed, Beta Release Details

Naa. $10 is the standard for online pass. I bet they'll all move to $15 DD standard soon. Again, this doesn't effect me as I never buy used games. People who buy new shouldn't be worries unless they have a lot of PS3 and PSN account, in which case I feel the pain.
Huh? But I think my guy was able to play Dead Space 2 online on his PSN, even though we redeemed it on mine..

I can't believe some people aren't going to buy this because of the camera.

You fuckin serious guys?

Srs Bsns!

The shit I've had to endure in some of my favorite games is peanuts compared to a bit of odd camera action. People are just so picky these days.

The camera is one of the reasons im not buying it. to dismiss camera complaints as petty is crazy, it's a third person shooter, the camera is very important. the way it constantly moves in and out combined with the choppy frame rate actually gives me a headache if I play it too long.

No kidding.

And even then it's not that bad at all.

My only problem with the whole thing is the sensitivity of the cursor is a little slow. I have it maxed out and I'd still like it to move a little faster.

Are you playing the same game as us?

Choppy? Game has been smooth as butter for me.

I wonder if the people who are bothered by the camera see the game a little differently. When you play, do you focus your eyes a lot on your character? I'm mostly looking at my crosshair and scanning the entire screen, rarely if ever looking at my dude.

While I won't comment on the camera, yes, the game has an unstable framerate. A lot of judder/stuttering (feels pretty much constant), and it can seriously bog down if a smoke grenade is thrown or you're near a blast.

Was about to say, this game is rock solid for me framerate wise. As I said, this is peanuts compared to graphical glitches up the ass, sound loops, sluggish ass engine, cover system that was broken all to hell etc. ( RS: Vegas - All-time fav. console shooter ) or my other big love, ArmA II with crappy animations, laggy ass broken online, terrible performance, graphical glitches.

A camera that is a bit wonky is nothing compared to it, nothing. I seriously think some people never played any of the great classics online or just lives very cocooned - The grounds on which people dismiss games these days, jeez.

I haven't had any framerate problems either. I play classic most of the time, but even when I played standard, I only had one time where my framerate dropped and it was only for a second or two and then it was back to normal.

I've been trying to get in a game of Last Defense since last night.

Just keep getting the never-ending loading screen. :(

I'll definitely buy the game, if not for the multiplayer, then at least for the single player. I loved SOCOM II's single player campaign. :D

Most stuff can be activated on 5 different PS3s. So you can redeem the code and activate it on your console. Then he can login to your account, download and then activate it on his PS3. 5 activations for most stuff except a few exceptions.

The camera really isn't that bad. That said, it certainly does need tweaking. I hope they'll actually use some of the feedback form this beta test for making those changes.

But with the game coming out on the 19th and the beta test ending on the 13th, I doubt any major changes can be done at this point.

Can someone tell me the differences between this and SOCOM Confrontation? I have never played a SOCOM before (that I can remember). I am currently enjoying MAG and considering buying SOCOM Confrontation.

As an aside, it would appear people on the official forum generally prefer SOCOM Confrontation to SOCOM 4 Beta. While it seems to be the other way around on GAF.

official forum? pfffffttt

SOCOM 4 is a great way to continue from MAG (in fact my clan is migrating from it to S4)

Zipper made Socom 4
Slant Six made Confrontation

Think;

Zipper= Infinity Ward
Slant Six= Treyarch

Calculate yourself.

SOCOM 4 is vastly superior to Confrontation (from how the beta plays). Confrontation was such a hack job.

So, what you're saying is that Slant Six is actually the better developer?

I don't know, Zipper is pretty badass.

Confrontation is slower-paced, has a steeper learning curve, and has less forgiving mechanics (especially in the gun game).

SOCOM 4 is definitely more beginner-friendly and less of an example of how the series has played in the past, but since you haven't played a SOCOM game before I guess you won't be offended by the changes.

Confrontation is easily my favorite next to S2, but at this point it would cause you more frustration than anything considering the majority of the Confrontation players left will be getting into S4 regardless of the current issues. And the players that stick around aren't too patient with beginners.

so this just stopped working for me. either I get a time out error or it gets stuck on the loading screen. so to get my socom fix I reinstalled confrontation and it's a lot different. trying to play C like 4 got me killed. if they could combine the two games it would be pretty awesome, there are a lot of things C does well and vice versa. i really really hate night maps though, i hope they are banned from socom forever.

Does anyone have any issues with their headset failing to transmit voice in game? Everything sounds fine in bluetooth settings and I can hear people but for some reason it doesn't pick up me talking sometimes.

WAS a hack job. By the time they finished making that game (3 years after release) and made the snow levels, it was a really good game that I think it better than what we see in the Beta. It was however a horrible piece of shit that didn't work for 3 years and 4 will be pretty tight out of the box.

Man this exclusive content crap depending on where you buy a game is BS!

Is there a list of maps out yet for this game?
Assault and Battery
Bale Out
Cesspool
Rush Hour
Outpost
Port Authority
Sacrifice
Collision
Von Heine Express
Abandoned (Gamestop pre-order bonus)

Video flythrough of Cesspool and Von Heine Express:

Going to make the OT if I get some time - was hoping they post the rest of the fly-thoughs soon like they said they would.

Yeah, I was referring to respawn, sorry.
I had issues occasionally in respawn (I use desktop mode with my mic)

I adjusted the mic sensitivity in the game settings and it's fine now

It's weird because it sounds great in the settings but in game, it seems like it picks up my voice late, if been at all. I guess I'll try with another headset. I've always had issues with PS3 Bluetooth- dunno what the heck Sony is doing.

Whew... I mean cool. If you need any help with it, lemme know, though I'm limited with photo skills lol.

So you want us to pay for a shooter where you can't see where you shooting? OK...

seriously? either some people are too picky or they are just trollin'.

as for the other person saying it has an unstable framerate, dude I think your PS3 is dying because my SOCOM 4 beta plays like butter. In fact, I have not seen anybody complaining about frame rate even on the official forums and they will find ANYTHING to complain about.

So I'm sure it was discussed at length a few pages back or I think it was, but I just today found out you can just hit R1 when behind cover with a sniper and it will auto aim kill someone if they are within the circle reticule. Holy over powered dog shit Batman lol.

I also tested out the P-90 for myself to see if I was just imaging that thing being an over powered beast. It was the first time I got over 12 kills in a row running around without dying. Usually I die at around 7-8 kills with any other gun. I was able to take out 2-3 guys at a time with proper moving and drop shotting since it only seems to take 3-5 bullets of the 50 in a clip to kill someone with it at the right ranges.

I stand by it being an over powered gun.

I also noticed the insurrgents get easier/faster access to the sniper building on Port thanks to the spawn being right by the steps in some game types, while the Spec Ops are forced to run across the green lawn at least before they can reach the building steps. This sucks if the other team has a half ways decent sniper go up there to prevent your side from claiming its own.

Oh and the knifing being uppped to two stabs sometimes now is a semi stupid choice. I had instances where I come up behind someone stab, the move right before I can get the second one, they stab at my chest, and kill me in 1 stab. Sooooo lame.

Hit detection in this game can be a total joke. On Assault and Battery someone was stupid enough to climb the middle tower and lay prone up there. I had a straight line of sight at him, he wasn't moving, I lined up my sniper on his body----and apparently 3 shots in a row dead on... going right through him, none of them connected. The game also has some serious fucking delay in what happens on your screen and how you die. Best example is you are on those sniper buildings on Port, you lean out of cover to take a pop shot at the sniper on the other building, you pop your head back in, have time to start the reload animation, then all of the sudden it shows you got head shotted by him even though you are firmly behind a wall.

So, there's no way this game is running on dedicated servers, and Zipper lied that there isn't auto aim in the game because of the whole sniper blind fire accuracy through the roof.

Sticking to my day one rental of this. The more time I've spent with it, the more there is that turns me off, and until those things are fixed/addressed I don't see myself getting addicted to this game in the slightest now that the "new" has worn off.

Sounds to me like you're spending too much time in the respawn games. The classic games have better gun balance, they run smoother, there's no clusterfucking, respawn should only be used to mod up weapons, not as a barometer of the game.

I play more classic game types than I do respawn. Most of my posts issues pertain to both game types.

oh shesh, dem official forums complaints, no wonder Zipper never listens to them

Thanks for all the replies!

Maybe I will continue playing MAG a bit more and see how the audience reaction is after SOCOM 4 is released before entering the fray.
