Some first Destiny 2 info about characters moving forward etc

Why play this years Call of Duty? There will be a new one next year. Or Battlefield? Or literally any other game? This attitude and the "respect my time" bullshit catchphrase annoy me to no end.

Guess what? You weren't developing a cure for cancer while playing Destiny, you're were not achieving anything. You were playing a fucking video game.

For fun.
..and the fun ended for me on Destiny 1 when Bungie announced no carry-over for our characters. No future chances of progression or better weapons and gear for Destiny 1 because it's done? Ok well...

What's the fucking point/where's the fun, unless bragging rights...uh, illegal game-gambling...whats the current appeal?

There's really no surprise here, pretty much no game lets you keep all the progress and loot you gained during the beta when the full game launches.

Did someone already do that one?

I haven't played in a few months now, been busy with life and other games, but I'm looking forward to it.

I don't really have a problem with this but I don't care enough about my characters look to use the same one. So I'll probably start from scratch.

A lot of people clearly did not understand what the 10 year plan is all about. It's the franchise as a whole, not your sweaty Matador. Your character is always the same, with that Matador or not.

They need to get rid of everything for the game to be better, there's no way around it and it's ok.

I'm completely okay with this. I do hope the character creation in the sequel is a little more in depth, though. However if we're able to bring our guardians' appearance forward that kind of worries me in that regard :(.

I'm cool with this. But I'll be especially happy if I can recreate the general look of my old guard shader and year 1 trench coat robes.

Bring on the new emotes!

Really excited for the reveal of Destiny 2.

And i'm glad they went this route because it means people who didn't play Destiny 1 or didn't max their characters don't feel like they're behind.

i'm wondering what it means for the release date of the game though if they're only revealing this decision now...

I'd give anything for the next one to be on pc. Please Bungie!
I'm okay, and I sort of expected this too. With a sequel i'm sure they will make some changes to skills, gear, and how stats are going to work. To make those sorts of improvements it makes more sense to have new gear, rather than have to re-edit everything to work in the new environment.

There is litterally nothing that forces a company ot render all of your existing gear/progression irrelevant with each update. Diablo 2 had an expansion which brought new gear, but all your old gear was still perfectly usable.
What happened to all that gear when Diablo 3 came out?

This instance is more like the shift from Guild Wars 1 to Guild Wars 2, where players we able to carrying over achievements in the first game for cosmetic rewards and bragging rights, because both games were made on different engines.

Diablo 2 had an expansion which brought new gear, but all your old gear was still perfectly usable. Path of Exile, a five year old game all about gathering cool loot, keeps adding new items, gems and unique, but your old stuff stays relevant, Warframe keeps adding new frames, weapons and mods, but your old stuff stays relevant. Borderlands brings new gear with each expansion, without rendering your old gear useless. All of these games find ways to bring players new toys, with new mechanics , yet they do respect the time and effort of the playerbase.

Imagine the riots that would occur if WOW would wipe all player progression one day to start from scratch, rendering thousands of hours useless in the blink of an eye for most of the playerbase.

That will happen when World of Warcraft 2 eventually comes out.

Destiny 2 is not an expansion.

It is an entirely new game, built from the ground up.

This is no different than expecting your gear to move from Final Fantasy XI to Final Fantasy XIV.

Sucks that one of the things that initially sold me on Destiny is being dropped, but if it leads to a better Destiny 2 then I guess I can't complain too much.

If anything, them NOT doing this would just lead to no point in sequels. I actually wish nothing carried over, this is a sequel they shouldn't feel compelled to constrain ANYTHING to the original, even if it's just redoing the same faces/hairstyles again I'd prefer the artists work on new shit.

This. Ther'es literally no point in making a sequel if your game is similar enough that you even CAN just transfer shit over 1:1.

I just realized while playing Destiny at this very moment, it's crazy to think that I'm basically playing a PS3/360 game.

I can't wait to see how pretty Destiny 2 looks.

This.

I welcome the fresh start

After 3,000 hours played it boils down to one thing ref destiny 2 for me.

Is it my guardian carrying over, ie the story and history or is it a new guardian.

If it's my guardian then things should carry over, it's a continuation of my story, why would I have dumped all my gear to carry on, breaks the story somewhat.

I would be OK with it being actually worthless but able to be trashed for parts etc, a little boost to your vault stock so to speak.

If it's a complete new guardian in a different time etc, then fine, start over not a real problem.

I didn't like it when they did this with dragon age, new characters every game.

It all depends on who your guardian is for me.

Also I would prefer going highest ll back to vanilla, only way to achieve it us via the raid!!

It's likely a continuation and not a new time. And your stuff won't carry over.

Weird how eververse stuff isn't moving forward. Kinda feels like a waste as the emotes and special masks feel like something that should carry over.

Glad I never bought any silver, would be pissed if the money I spent wasn't carrying over in the items I purchased.

I mean, why would it? If you buy DLC for Mass Effect 2 it doesn't somehow exist in Mass Effect 3 as well.

It's not a different game if it's going to do all the same shit/use the smae shit. If you don't want to play a different game, just keep playing Destiny 1.

Not carrying over the emotes is bullshit.

Other than that, I understand. Having to balance the sequel around weapons and gear from the first one is not worth the effort and the limitations that path would impose.

But Bungie got your money, isn't that valuable?

Cosmetic microtransactions are a scam. Don't reward them please.

I used to think this until I played Rainbow Six Siege. Awesome game but the worst servers ever. I'm happy to throw money at a developer that constantly updates and maintains premium servers.

I would pay a few bucks every now and then to have a lagless Iron Banner.

If Destiny is to evolve and be a better game, a better foundation, it needs to leave the old behind. The nightmare of trying to balance 10 years of content around Icebreaker or Ghorn or Thorn or anything name.

It's good to start fresh.

Don't count on them ot leave behind a crucial part of the game's identity and lore. Those exotics and most of exotics are surely staying in the game.
