Some vegans and vegetarians can be annoying

I don't mind vegans and vegetarians. My biggest problem comes in when you run into do and ask "Oh you don't like -insert meat containing dish- ?" and they reply with something along the lines of "Meat is murder." or some statement about how meat is processed, I just automatically tune that person out.

You know that they are right, right?

Their opinion is not fact, as much as they wish it was, it's not.

Would vegetarians eat meat if it was grown in a lab?

I might when it came to fast food, the only thing I miss meat-wise are the McDonalds basic Burgers.
Before I was a vegetarian I really only ever liked processed meat, never a steak on its own and whatnot, which is part of the reason I haven't had any issues going vegetarian since the only things meat-eaters dangle in front of me aren't very appetizing.

People who are very passionate about nutrition, one way or the other, can be very annoying. They believe their diet is the ultimate diet and they feel the need to school every one about its merits. Vegans/vegetarians are any not worse in that regards. Those I know keep it to themselves and talk about it only when asked.

Two of my coworkers are vegetarian... and fat, how's that possible?

Eat shitloads of pasta with pesto every day, add potato chips and coke, and the rest comes naturally.

Plenty of animals die in the name of growing vegetables, so it always kind of irks me when that's the reason / angle.

The fact that you can't implement your personal policies perfectly doesn't make them ineffective.

Yep. You've got blood on your hands no matter what. If you're eating veggies to reduce that impact that seems reasonable enough though.

Significantly less and unfortunately due to the way the world works it's kind of a pain to avoid.

It's not about being perfect or saving animals, it's about as living as free from animal products/cruelty etc (and the animals which do die generally aren't caged/are wild).

Everyone deals with annoying people all the time. I'm vegetarian but I'm not judgmental about meat-eaters. I don't care all that much. But I'm always dealing with people who "don't understand why I don't eat meat". Then you have people that directly give me shit for it.

Some people are annoying canks. Big deal.

depends. I would say most vegans have two categories of why. Ecological and Moral. Moral because harming a living creature is a shitty way to sustain yourself and Ecological because meat production is vastly more energy inefficient than meat.

I love animals but i am far more in the Ecological camp. Beef takes about 10-40 times more water than to produce a pound of soy. Thats just a waste of water. About 80% of our worlds soy fields are used to strictly feed live stock.

Maybe some people use the joke not as a joke, but as an insult. I don't really care about your friend btw.
Well who pissed in your cereal this morning.

This one time a guy catered purely vegetarian fare at some meeting of >100, and people got irrationally worked up over the lack of meat options. It was really weird.

Egg is not considered a vegetarian food in India. Guy was probably trolling you.

He's probably referring to ovo-lacto vegetarians. There are Hindus who will drink milk and eat eggs, as these don't require death of the "contributing" animal. It's not so much that they consider it "vegetarian" as much as they consider it allowable.

What's more annoying than vegans/vegetarians are the new "gluten sensitive" people.

I've been having terrible shits lately, I think it must be to this nefarious gluten I've heard so much about.
Get tested for gluten intolerance?
No, no, it can't pick up gluten sensitivity, but I know I got it.

To tell you the truth, I would even go out of my way not to "offend" people's meat eating sensibilities. Especially during holidays with family. As if sticking to greens and sweet potato soufflé was making some sort of statement. Grew tired of placating. People like OP only get worked up because deep down they're guilted by their degenerate, meat eating ways.

I kid... (sorta).

The cruelty angle is an extremely complex one. You *can* get reasonably cruelty-free meat and dairy, but it usually involves having the good fortune of having local butchers/farmers nearby who are willing to talk about how the animals were raised. And then you kind of just have to take their word for it.

I choose to. You may not, it's totally a personal thing. I did switch to almond milk several years ago because of this; the super-seriously-local farm that delivered precious few bottles to the grocery store had shut down, and once you get milk that fresh it's really hard to go back to the stuff in paper cartons. So I didn't even try.

Plus almond milk in cereal actually tastes better. So, you know, win/win.

Wat!? you smiley face tells me your joking but its annoying how as soon as someone knows your vegan they automatically turn into a nutritionist.

yeah, I was joking. I definitely respect vegetarians and understand that it can be a very healthy diet.

I try to do at least one day a week where I don't eat any meat. There are many protein-rich foods that aren't dead animal!
