Taking a look at one of the more interesting RE clones to pop up in the late 90s and early 2000s.
Fear Effect has a heavy focus on puzzles, gun combat, and instant deaths. It pulled heavily from Chinese Mythology, splashes of Cyberpunk, John Woo and heist films, and plenty of fan service.
It made use of looping videos as backgrounds compared to static prerenders, and was a bit ahead of the curve with its cel-shaded approach to its graphics.
While not a huge seller, Fear Effect has its share of a devoted audience, yours truly included.
And after seeing the upcoming remake of the first title, Fear Effect Reinvited, which doesn't look overly promising, it got me thinking about the series and taking a look back on it. While it has its share of frustrations, there's plenty of fun and memorable moments and a unique flavor that have helped the Fear Effect series stand out.
In this video we'll look at the following:
• Fear Effect
• Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix
• The Cancelled Fear Effect: Inferno
• Fear Effect Sedna
• The future of the series with Fear Effect: Reinvented
