Someone here has to care: Sleater-Kinney are no more :(

Sad, but they went out on a high note with their last album. Even riot grrls get old. :(

Awesome band, they meant a lot to me when I was younger.

They might get back together sometime, who knows?

The Woods is a good swan song album. They seem to be adhering to the old "leave 'em wanting more" adage of showbiz. I say good for them and hope we see some decent solo projects in the near future.

I always saw their name bandied about indie music discussions, but I firmly oppose hyphenated bandnames so I've never heard any of their stuff. Ah well.

You could see this coming, what with them being adults and having kids and other adult responsibilities. Too bad, though.

Never got to see them on the current tour, which I heard was their best tour yet. Saw them two other times, and they were great.

And it's really sad that there are people who think that all they hear on the radio is all there is to music. Even sadder are the people who flaunt that ignorance.

Disappointing, but unsurprising. Interviews were really strained around the time of The Woods. Still, sucks I never got to see them live.

I'm really confused by all the people in this thread proudly flaunting their ignorance. If people are saying good things about a band I haven't heard of, my usual reaction is, "I wonder if they're actually any good?" not "HAHE ROBBLE ROBBLE NO RADIO PLAY = SUPER SUK TOTAL LOLZ"

Agreed on The Woods love. They slammed the hell out of the analog tape with those drums, that shit sounded LOUD no matter what volume you played it at. RIP, S-K!

It sounds like they're going to play a few final shows before going on "indefinite hiatus" though, so those who missed the live show have one last chance!

I hope they do some shows around here.

The Woods was awesome.
Hmm... maybe I can still finagle my way into one of their remaining shows, which I assume will end up here in the NW.

I'm sure they'll do some farewell shows in Olympia, Seattle, and Portland.

Last time I saw them was at their free in-store record release party at Sonic Boom Records in Ballard back on May 31st, 2005. Good stuff. Even got a 7" signed.

For a second when I saw this I thought that it meant they wouldn't play Lollapalooza and I would have been PISSED, but now it means I get to see one of their last shows!!!! CAN'T WAIT. I thought The Woods was awesome.

The name of the road they used for their band name is hyphenated.

I caught one of S-K's final shows here in NYC last night. The venue was sweltering, sold out and the energy was ****ing crackling from start to finish. Amazing set list with lots from the Woods as well as Dig Me Out and a few tracks I haven't heard them do in years-- "One More Hour", "The Drama You've Been Craving", "Words + Guitar."

The room was baptised in sweat and Carrie, Corin and Janet really seemed to be pushing themselves to pull out all the stops despite the heat. They did some really cool instrumental stuff inbetween songs and as intros/ outros/ transitions. After a full set and two encores, the show was over and I was so charged but also sad to see them go. I've loved this band for a decade now, and seeing the way Sleater-Kinney has evolved from a post riot grrrl/ queercore basement band to the Best Rock and Roll Band in the World has been extraordinary.

I'll miss you ladies.

Full setlist:
Start Together / The Fox / The Drama You've Been Craving / Wilderness / Jumpers / Light Rail Coyote / Night Light / Ironclad / Rollercoaster / Hot Rock / What's Mine Is Yours / Youth Decay / Modern Girl / Let's Call It Love / Entertain / Sympathy / Dig Me Out //(1st encore) Ballad of a Ladyman / Oh! / Call The Doctor / Get Up / Words + Guitar ///(second encore) Turn It On / One More Hour

Check out some great pics here

I was completely crushed by this news. I'll miss their personal but engulfingly immense sound, the way Carrie does those little kicks and jumps on stage, Janet's reticent intensity, and of course, the Corin's inimitable voice (so f**king incredible). Yeah, I'll miss that a lot. Luckily, I got to catch three performances in one week last summer, traversing at least a quarter of California to do it.

S-K were true rock goddesses - they'll be missed.

Any chance you can get yourself to Lollapalooza or to Portland? Those are the only shows left.

This might be a small consolation, but last night's show was being filmed for a DVD release. So at least there's that?

I want there to be a last Olympia show, damnit. I can't get to Portland.

Sleater Kinney playing Lollapaloosa is like casting pearls before swine.

They would have been better appreciated at Pitchfork.

I don't want to hear "can't." Craigslist ride shares, bus, train, rental car, roadside head all the way to Portland, do it. Doooo it.

My sentiments exactly. They should've been the show-closer (no disrepect to Os Mutantes).
