, then there's being perfectly willing to spoil a product that isn't even a year old. Sure there's something of a loose statue of limitations here, but it needs to at least be a few damn years. Long enough for price drops and to be able to readily assume you'd have played it, Bioshock Infinite's in a better position just because of frequent sales and even being offered for free with PS+, yet it's the worse game to spoil for having one of those "it was his sled" moments.

The plot isn't really the point. It's actually fairly routine. It's more about the journey, cliche as it sounds.

Yeah, sometimes things ARE so old or wildly prevalent that it's easy to make a mistake there, hell my prior example was spoiler tagged more for fun than seriously worrying about protecting someone from being spoiled, but if someone was genuinely talking about going to see Star Wars without ANY knowledge whatsoever, not even the stuff from cultural osmosis, the most I'd say is "watch IV-VI first then I-III," not go and blurt something that was once legitimately shocking.

Though admittedly I was guilty of that if I thought the story was SHIT, but that was FFVIII, years ago, and I think it was in a chatroom and more "don't care if present company didn't know but cares" than "oh you're playing FFVIII? Well

And weirdly enough I had one guy go right on blathering about Bionic Commando's story genuinely liking it even when I said "no I don't want it spoiled," but this guy was kind of a fucker anyway and a more benign example simply because that's more of a "I want to see the profound idiocy for myself" rather than "this is an amazing story I don't want to be spoiled on!"

As someone who hates spoilers, I will literally stop talking to my friend for a week if they spoil something for me after I've told them not to.

I would just play the game anyway, and hopefully you're too engrossed into the story to remember what he told you.
