Songs with amazing intros.

Murder By Death's "The Devil in Mexico" has a great intro as well.

I also really like "A Masters in Reverse Psychology"- it just nails that western swagger in two seconds.

Actually, "The Desert is on Fire" might have the better intro of the two . . ..

There was a song in the movie Sucker Punch's OST that had a cool intro.

The lyrics go something like, "One pull makes you larger. One pill makes you small. Something. Something."

Used to rewind it over and over. Lasted like 15 seconds.

Do opening lyrics count as "amazing intros"? If so, To Ramona by Bob Dylan has about the most beautiful opening of a song ever.

Ramona, come closer
Shut softly your watery eyes
The pangs of your sadness
Will pass as your senses will rise
The flowers of the city
Though breathlike, get deathlike at times
And there's no use in tryin'
To deal with the dyin'
Though I cannot explain that in lines.

As far as instrumental openings go, I think Cello Song by Nick Drake is amazing.

Honestly, my nerdy side has been leaning to:

The Seatbelts - Tank!

I don't know if you could call it an intro but I love it.

"I think its time to blow this scene..."

Other more suitable mentions:

Guns n' Roses - Sweet Child Of Mine (one of my favorite intros of all time)

The Who - Baba O'Riley
Boston - Foreplay / Long Time
Coheed and Cambria - In Keep Secrets of Silent Earth 3
Audioslave - Cochise (still one of my favorite build-ups of all time)
Avenged Sevenfold - The Beast And The Harlot
Foo Fighters - My Hero
Foo Fighters - Everlong
Guns n' Roses - Welcome To The Jungle
Guns n' Roses - Paradise City

Very happy someone finally mentioned what I came to mention.

XX's Intro is a good call.

Imma go with Mladic, because i think it's the best intro the GY!BE have ever done.
All up until like, 6 minutes, it's pure bliss for me.

Speaking of Bliss, not a big fan of the Muse, but the intro to that song is pretty good.

Also the Prelude to the Das Rheingold (although not technically a "song"), i'll never get tired of it.

Well played, that one. Well played.

Also, Underworld - Born Slippy.
After the intro the actual song is pretty boring.
But dang, do I like this one.

Hated how it turned into a drum roll, but one night when I had to finish a text before the next day my brain suddenly started to love 90's rave and techno and before I knew it this live version was the best thing ever (only version I've found with decent quality, but too bad it has lot's of screaming). Still like how the drums fade out in the middle when the reverbed/godly chords come in at 3:23 and are given center stage at 3:51 when the drums go away.

Dire Straits - Money for Nothing

SO. GOOD. That rising synth. Those amazing drums. and then into THAT riff. Hnnngggggh.

Discuss.

Money for Nothing deserve a price for including a Yamaha DX synth in such an awesome way. You hear it here (02:25 after "oga moga") and after most riffs. Most used the DX' electric pianos, brass and other copies of instruments to make much of the cheesy 80's music we all love :P

Ooh, ooh Genesis! Since old school is being represented, how about "the three" era - love this intro - simple yet gets you pumped:

Genesis - Turn It On Again
You know, this song is really good! I never paid much attention to it, never cared much about the album Duke, except for a couple of songs. Nice intro indeed, a catchy tune.

This song will never get old. I listened to it today on my new Hi-Fi system and enjoyed it as much as the first time (more, in fact, due to the quality of the remastered version of Dark Side). I love those clocks at the beginning.

I can list a bajillion but one recent one that caught my eye was Emerson, Lake, and Palmer's - The Three Fates.

Any fan of FFVI's Dancing Mad should get a kick out of it.
