Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed out on PC today

I was half-serious, but the last time I hosted we got a NE every ~3 races and Smilax has some connection problem sometime so he can't host. There isn't many people left :P

Sometimes, but I'm up to race anytime. Just send me a PM or something. I don't care if I d/c after every race. I'll join everytime.

[The reason I haven't been playing is because I was finishing up my Backlog, which I kinda did. :P]

Edit: Also, if you want to get to me faster, add me on Steam. Username is Smilax

Ok, for some reason people are hearing my audio even though I don't have a mic plugged in and voice-chat isn't enabled. What gives?

So online is "region locked" right now ?
I should be in EU but it depends how the region detection is made.

Wow, I just got the most insane... glitch, I guess. Seaside Hill. I was Gum. Right after the race begins, my game freezes/locks up for a a second or two, then I'm flying/warping/having a seizure outside the track. It's like I was teleporting into certain parts of the map in flashes; then, finally, I wound up in 9th place and a good ways behind everyone else back on the track. I'm pretty sure I went out of the game world for a brief second, too, but everything was a blur, and Gum was spinning like a top.

Trippy.

Just got this game tonight! Having an amazing split-screen experiences. I haven't had this much fun in a racing game in a long time!

If someone could invite me to the GAF Sonic Racing group, that would be awesome!

Bleh, should have got this yesterday on Gmg.
You should have. They always have vouchers, though, so you'd still get a decent price with a 20%-off voucher or whatever. Game's worth $30 as it is.

I hope the region patch comes soon. We would have had a full room if some of the people I invited were able to join. It's really a bummer.

Speaking of connectivity issues, someone from the US couldn't join my lobby, and I couldn't join theirs; but some other people could join his while others couldn't. All US.

Anyway, the games tonight were fun. Nice playing with you, GAF.

It's at times like this that I really do love PC gaming, and the DD distribution model; Just got the game from GMG for $19 with a 25% code, and 3 dollars in credit I got from buying an also massively discounted DmC.

Can I get an invite to the group? I'm down for some racing.

It's still going for 25% percent off. They extended it as a weekend deal, iirc

Just got to the "endgame" so to speak. Only 41% complete, 9:31.

Damn have I got a long way to go in the World Tour. Apparently you need to kill off the challenges at Hard and above to unlock the last two characters. You don't get enough stars if you just complete all available races at medium.

Hard is just unfair lol.

Hard in this game is actually damn hard, and not just normal for seasoned players like in most games. It took me a long while to start beating those CPUs in this mode, but once I did, I started b eating them consistently, without track memorization. It really, really teaches you the mechanics.

I completed most of the tracks on the difficulty above Hard. :brag:

Yea, I was able to play the rest of time with no crashes so far. So far on normal, I either completely dominate a race or it's neck and neck.

I saw this in a Steam thread:
I've port forwarded the following port ranges:
- 3074-3074 (TCP/UDP)
- 27000-27030 (UDP)
- 27014-27050 (TCP)

3 people in a row just said Match making/region invite now worked for them. Anyone that has tried this?

Has anyone been having any major graphic issues with Chilly Castle? Every so often when I start it up the dark/light slider is turned up to insane levels which whites out pretty much the entire level, forcing me to have to restart it. Seems to occur more on split screen.

Also, it would be delightful if I could get an invite to the steam group, another EU guy here. Looking forward to getting some games on.

Maybe some of you can help me out, cause there seems to be some confusion about the bonus characters when you buy the game from greenmangaming. Some people say they aren't included if you buy the game from there. Can anyone confirm that?

I bought this on Steam yesterday! I've officially double-dipped on Sonic Transformed as I also picked up the Vita version.

Picked this up last night, and, wow, it's really inventive, and the courses really capture just how idiosyncratic Sega's approach to gaming can be. It's not exactly the most original game in the world, but it takes the core elements of a karting game and does them incredibly well, and with a good helping of Sega magic for good measure. I've just started playing it, so in the process of learning the courses, but definitely up for some multi-player once I've brought myself up to speed.

People aren't kidding about the Nights level, goddamn.

I played the casino level split-screen on 90" yesterday. We had to pause playing because we all felt sick. That insanely steep part at the beginning was too much, never had that experience in either movies or games before. Yet to play Nights though.

So I just found out about risk boost. No wonder the AI always get the better of me on the flying stages -_-'

risk boost can also be chained to a serious boost or something, it's hard to do but you get a level 3 boost out of it. Basically you roll out of the way of something but into something else, then roll instantly again and the announcer will call it out.

Im super tented to get this game, whats holding me back is the fact that I STILL dont have the damn controller adapt. for my PC. ~_~ And playing racing games with mouse and keyboard isnt really a good option Im guessing. So I will probably have to look for one here and get the game later. :(

The TF2/ Football manager/ etc/ characters are in. I biught mine from gmg too. Outrun bay and Metal sonic are missing, but coming later so no one has them yet

How do you get better boosts at the start of a race?

Tap/briefly press the gas as you fade up from black to each countdown number.

Countdown timing goes like this:

Fade up from black, tap gas, 3
Fade up from black, tap gas, 2
Fade up from black, tap or hold gas, 1

The timing is somewhere after it starts to fade up, but before the number is completely there on a completely opaque screen.

You can get up to a level 3 boost at the start, which is either blue or white looking depending on the lighting of the stage you're racing. Level 1 is red, 2 is purple, 3 is blue/whiteish.

On the rolling starts the same timing applies, but the lack of fade ups makes it more difficult as you've lost your visual clue.

If you screw up the timing (spew out black exhaust) you'll lose the entire boost. So you could have a level 2 boost, mess up and start the race with nothing.

Yeah, it's not hard or cheap, it just requires you to understand the game mechanics and apply them.
On normal you can faff about cluelessly and be first every time, if you somewhat chain boosts properly you end up winning by 20 seconds or more..

Tip:
-consume your drift boosts between boost pads when the pad boosts wear off (or rather try to chain your boosts you get 3 lvls of boost)
-if you let go of the drift button for a very short time you can change drift direction without activating boost and you can keep it going
-there is a thing called 'risk boost', you get it for using the roll in the plane to avoid collision with the environment, using this is mandatory on hard.

The entire game is based around hitting the boost pads and chaining your boosts (like a fifth of the events are boosts events trying to make you realise this very thing to begin with)

edit: I see risk boost is already covered above, also didn't know about the tri boost on race start (only knew about the timing on the last countdown), thanks.

kudos to sega for still making games where the reward is in the gameplay and not the carrots.
