I love how there are STILL NO REVIEWS (minus a few!).

Well, according to, *ahem*, a post on Gamefaqs, these are the reviews so far:

Game On: 92/100
Official Nintendo Magazine (Europe): 81%
Family Friendly Gaming: 90/100
Gaming Age: B+ (88%)
Electronic Playground 4/5 (80%)

Off with his head!

Nevermind the fact that he gave us useful information!

Solid, I don't know where some of those came from though.

If only the game was actually as effortless to play as you made it seem. That was amazing.
It is actually and when you try getting all the A ranks you will get what makes SA2 the best 3D Sonic.

I like how it gave you a B. What more did it want? :lol
Obviously he should have collected more points ;). For example the first big mistake happens when he jumps off the first rail with the green X at the end. Instead of landing on the next rail he should have gone for the platform next to it in order to gain a big bonus. When grinding down the violet rail afterwards he should've killed the blue enemy instead of going down the whole rail. After the portion where he killed the two blue enemies with a bomb, he should have jumped off the rail with the green X at the end and land on the platform with the spring for another big bonus. Then he screwed up on the first trail of rings (didn't light dash) and on the second one (didn't land on the rail but instead went very high - this is time intense). After the part with the three different colored tunnels (he took the correct path), he doesn't hit the rail upwards two times before hitting it. Later on he again doesn't collect the points one gains if you jump off the rails with the green X symbols AND land on the ground instead of landing on the next rail (is ok here though as landing would have taken too much time). I'm sure I've missed some parts where he could have performed better. This is not saying this was a bad run it obviously wasn't his aim to get an A rank but instead to go as fast as possible. I recommend trying to get all the A ranks in Sonic Adventure 2, it's really worth it imo :).

Actually, the formula they had was good...they just had to flesh it out into more levels like it..

Unfortunately, that level is the best 3D Sonic you'll ever see. Though, SA2 had a lot of amazing Sonic/Shadow levels. I've said it many times before, if they made a whole game with levels just like that, it would be a AAA title.

Why they deviated from that formula with Sonic Heroes/Shadow/Sonic 06, I'll never understand.
I can't understand they didn't make exactly this game. It would be so easy and would result in such a great game...

Yeah, so proceed with caution.

Just so you know, no matter what scores the game gets, there's gonna be a backlash from a small, but vocal group of Sonic purists. Sonic Rush certainly did, and that game was great.

Always play before you judge.

Yeah, I've gotten the A ranks for all the levels, there is a lot of things you can do. For example, there are a lot of little cheats to skip big areas of the level, like just falling after the first checkpoint and hitting a rail beneath just right.

As Yoshi said, it wasn't my aim to get the best score in the game, but moreso to just show off the game as smoothly as possible. Be forworned, I played, like, 20 times before I got the right video. You WILL die a lot.

I'm trying to encode video of Metal Harbor and Crazy Gadget - MH is quite easy and short, while Gadget is horribly complicated and likes to kick you square in the nuts quite a lot.

Might throw up some of the shooting levels too - They were a lot of fun. Most of the complaints for those levels were fans going "OMG Tails can't fly!?! He's in a mech! H8 y00!!1"

I'm surprised there haven't beenany sonic physics charts here yet ( that I've seen)

Only Sonic fans can ramble on for 9 pages with very little to talk about.

I've spent over 120 hours on SA2. I'm not entirely sure why, as the game isn't THAT great, but it's certainly a fun experience. I suppose part of it was trying to get all the emblems, a feat that's still pretty annoying to pull off (getting all A ranks is a major pain in the neck).

If only they hadn't ruined the series with Heroes. I hope SATSR is fun enough to make me forget about the pieces of crap we've been given lately.

Uh huh.

Grrrarg!

All the game retailers around me (philly) just said that they won't have the game in until tomorrow...blasted!

How ironic, because I was home for the weekend and decided to give my Dreamcast some love (previously it was the Gamecube and Twilight Princess) and bring it back to the dorms. Listen to Yoshi, he speaks the truth! I forgot how addicting this is!

Exactly! If you actually take the time to try to master the game you will see how amazing SA2 was, at least the Sonic/Shadow levels. This is why i can't believe the hate for SA2, its so much better than the first one and a fantastic game.

Four words: Knuckles and Rouge levels.

Here's four more: Eggman and Tails levels. :D

I mean, good grief, all four of the "non-hedgehog" character levels were atrocities to play. At least Adventure 1 only had Big the Cat and Gamma. And Knux's level set-ups weren't nearly as bad in the first game as they were in the 2nd.

I think I literally spent two and a half hours in Knuckles' space level because of how bad the tracker was and how poorly laid out the level was.

The second I saw Mario Galaxy, the first thing I thought was "OH GOD HERE COMES THE BEEPING"

The Eggman and Tails levels, while not being what I would call "fun" were at least inoffensive. Knuckles and Rouge's levels gave you the bubonic plague. I've had visions of the eternal flames that were more pleasant and less psychologically torturous.

A good review by Shane, and one that gives me more hope than most 7.5 reviews. It sounds like the worst things are the music and the minigames, neither of which I plan to experience much. And as for frustratingly difficult side missions, bring it on. This game is supposed to be a throwback to the old school, nothing is more old-school than sometimes unfair and wildly spiking difficulty.

I want to take moment to specifically explain the score. For me, Sonic and the Secret Rings offers moments of greatness where I find myself caught up in the intensity of the experience and, oppositely, moments where I want to pull my hair out or throw the Wii remote down because of imprecise control or insulting design choices. I think that some gamers, particularly diehard Sonic fans, will be able to get past these drawbacks and enjoy the great times, which are also in supply. However, for me it's really pretty simple. Call me harsh, but I don't believe you should be forced to deal with the bad to enjoy the good and hence, I've scored the game with that in mind.

Cassamassas is such a coward. A pre-emptive defense of the score, classy.

God damn you don't put the justification for the review like that, the REVIEW is the justification for the score. Bloody hell

wow he gives the SOUND of Wii Sports a 7 but he gives the SOUND of SOnic SoTR a 5

you know, sometimes those numbers... the seem like numbers.. they seem like little lines of fonts thrown in happ hazordly because they feel like tossing out number around that make no sense

This is one game I will try myself before giving any jugdement

and btw, shall we, again, curse Matt-IGN till death?

Its 0.1 away from a 7 so its not bad at all... right?

EDIT: Will reviews please stop saying its the best 3d Sonic game. A sonic game that gets a 6.9 is NOT THE BEST 3D SONIC GAME!!! Did everyone forget the 9's Sonic Adventure was getting back in the day. If its the best 3d Sonic game than its really really damn good.

Nahh matts alright and generaly a fair reviewer.

He made it clear in this review (with his little justification) and if i'm not mistaken, he even said it in the podcast. He expects this game to have a real split in opinions.. His justification there is in anticipation of lots of fan reactions were people play it and think it's a lot better than that.

Matt gave Sonic Adventure a 5/10 when he reviewed it for the GC, so that should give you an approximation how much better he thinks SATSR is.
