"These new Wisps were being demonstrated on a brand new level, called Starlight Carnival – a beautifully bright, colourful stage set in space that reminds me a hell of a lot like a combination of Sonic CD’s Stardust Speedway and Mario Kart’s Rainbow Road."

There better be a race against metal sonic on this level.

it just sends me to the homepage. I guess it isn't up yet

Sonic Colors is getting more Sega love than Overwork's next game right now.

we are still in shock that there is a Sonic game that doesn't have a deal breaking feature.

I'm more excited for this than Sonic the Hedgehog 4, and I'm not sure why. :lol

well, this is a Sonic thread...

hmmm, I guess those really are traits worth boasting around here.

I can't tell if Sega just completely lucked into pulling this game off right, or if they've actually managed to learn a few real lessons about how to fix their designs after all this time.

I'm going to have to play this one before I can believe it's real, I think.

You trying to get another thread locked?

what? no. not this time. besides, that's not a fetish. I'm just hungry <_<

the I can't seem to get into the Sweet Mountain theme. I guess it's because I can't hear it propery

I bet the re-centralization of Sonic Team couldn't have hurt things.

Cannibalism is no better... Just saying.

Man, I haven't been paying attention to this game. Got burned from all the Sonic games that just couldn't quite get it right, always throwing in something stupid like brawling or sword swinging or guns or some other stupid thing.

I am getting HYPED for this. That may be a mistake.

Also that Sweet Mountain music is fantastic.

Hm, just checked the November release date, I thought this was coming out at the end of this month for some reason.

Also read this and chuckled:
The script for Sonic Colors was written by MadWorld and Happy Tree Friends writers, Ken Pontac & Warren Graff.

i was planning to get this when its price gets down to 20 bucks but these latest videos(omg pure platforming + chiptunes) are swinging me to the day one full price purchase now. Once again Sega pulls me back into its cycle just when i thought i had enough with Sonic games. i'm sooo conflicted about Iizuka & Sonic Team though, sooo they are really capable of a non-shitty Sonic game!?! wtf :lol

the tropical resort theme changed quite a bit from the E3 build.
I think I prefer the E3 version better. I don't see why they wouldn't but I hope the original track is on the official soundtrack.

I believe this is Tropical Resort Act 2. That would explain the difference in music.

I don't know, there was footage of Act 2 at E3 and the music didn't change. At this point it could either be it got reworked, or the act 2 track wasn't ready yet. I'm just banking on the former right now so I'm not disappointed if the latter isn't the case.

EDIT- been rewatching some of the new videos to listen to the music, and I like how Robotnik's theme from 2006 somehow wound up as the only recurring theme in this gen's 3d sonic games.

E.G.G.M.A.N. ("I am the Eggman") reoccurred in at least two or three major games. Technically "All Hail Shadow" was redone by Crush 40 for 2006, too, but I can't recall if it was used in-game or not. Probably in the credits.

By "This gens 3D games" I just meant 06, Unleashed, and Colors.
Like I dunno this series is segmented in a couple of different subseries so I just think of everything in super narrow groups.

E.G.G.M.A.N. has only recurred in Shadow so far. Black Knight also had snippets from a bunch of SA1 and 2 character themes, which was kinda nice.

All Hail Shadow does come up briefly once or twice in '06's cutscene tracks, played by the orchestra.

It was originally composed by Hideaki Kobayashi, who did most of '06's cutscenes and boss themes. Takahito Eguchi did most of Unleashed's cutscenes, but Kobayashi contributed a few as well as most of the boss themes again. I assume he's been assigned to the same role for Colors.

They're playing a video of gameplay now during the press conference, looks really really good.

Edit: Or it's just a stream of all the trailers they had shown.

I think he means it went in reverse. Or something.

In any case, that game was shit, and this is not. I'm also glad to be interested in the DS version again.

ILikeFeet said:
I thought that was panned

Exactly. But before it's release, hype went up instead of down.

That's why I used Black Knight as an example. It reversed the Sonic Cycle, and still got panned.

AniHawk said:
Black Knight was confirmed shit the moment they gave him a sword.

Yeah, it started at it's lowest point, and then hype went up when people saw the graphics, and music, and 'fun' gameplay.

Black Knight looked amazing from the trailers. Better than its predecessor, Secret Rings, which I enjoyed quite a bit.

And here I stand, having never played the game. I usually decide for myself how good or bad a game is, within a reasonable range, but for Black Knight, the reception was so bad I just said "fuck it" and moved on. Even my love for Secret Rings couldn't get me to play something that was worse, when it seemed like the few flaws of Rings were so easily fixable yet remained unfixed. I hit my "fed up point" and just awaited something better. Will Sonic Colors be what I've been waiting for?

I remember BK going backwards now. :lol the cycle has had some interesting variations. right now we have yet to go past stage one

Willy105 said:
Not to be mean, but remember that Black Knight also reversed the Sonic Cycle as well.

Did it? I mean, "Sonic Cycle" has become shorthand for "Sega pulled back the curtain on a shitty feature", but...

  • "Oh hey, a new Sonic game by the Secret Rings team. Secret Rings was decent."
  • "This looks visually impressive, for a Wii game!"
  • "Wait, Sonic has a sword? Are they kidding? He doesn't need a sword, his spikes are supposed to be sharp enough to cut things already."
  • "You can play as Blaze, Knuckles, and Shadow? Arghhh..."

Seems like the Sonic Cycle to me. Or, at least, that's how Black Knight went from my perspective.
