Sonic Frontiers: World Premiere Extended Gameplay

The world looks really fun to explore and the activities seems nice. I'm glad there's still some bits and pieces of Sonic level design throughout the world

That music doesn't fit the Sonic world AT ALL.

Had both, really bad and good Knuckles Pumpkin Hills' Sonic Adventure 2 vibes

And why in hell Sonic is climbing? They really gonna doing this? For real?

They put jump pads, Sonic is fast enough for running without climbing, but somehow Sonic is climbing...

They're out of their minds.

Felt like a tech demo made in UE5 by a fan lol
I could swear I actually saw a fan demo of a game a few years ago that looks like this (minus the better graphics).

This might be what I was thinking of.

Anyways, the realistic looking world and (admittedly good) music don't really match the tone of Sonic in my opinion, but I'll keep an eye on it.

Sonic Team's hard on for boost pads is never ending. Why can't someone just move Sonic to where they want him to go? I understand them in certain contexts, but they're all over the place here. There's no momentum.

Looks fantastic, GOTY potential. DAY ONE purchase for me.

It does look pretty promising tbh. Nice to see them opening up the Sonic formula. I'll keep an eye out for it.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't, huh?

There's some obvious texture and asset pop-in hopefully gets fixed by release. Also hopefully there's a 60 FPS option for PS5/Series systems.

But otherwise this is finally something of that Sonic Adventure & more open world exploration style a lot of fans have been wanting for years.

Nah, looks very worrying,

I just don't get it. It's missing the vibrant Sonic look and there's no cohesion to the way Sonic moves, it's all disjointed and really stiff looking. I only watched a bit but it also looks so empty and boring.

Definitely not what I was looking for in a sonic game. I'll stick to Sonic Origins if I need a Sonic fix…

I get the feeling they wants us to be impressed by the visuals, but it looks basic and the popin is terrible.

Plus the world looks disjointed, realistic scenario but springs and loop for no reason, rails and platforms in the sky.

Ah you're all being too hard on it. Sonic has been trash since Sonic Adventure.... this looks like it MIGHT be playable enough to actually get some enjoyment out of it. I think most of you think this looks "tech demo" because there is no overlay on the screen at all.... but I have a feeling the final game will have those elements. I'd be OK with it either way.

The realistic world totally clashes with Sonic's cartoony design. Gameplay looks wonky and surprisingly boring. Textures are low-res and there's a lot of pop-in.

When I saw that small teaser yesterday I was actually quite surprised, but man this footage absolutely destroyed it.

The more I look at it the worst it gets.

Purge Sonic Team already. Must be so shameful to get your gaming franchise get carried by animes and movies instead of your games because they cannot get any more bad than what they are.

How come nobody can make a good 3D Sonic game?

Did they hire a F2P MMORPG maker to craft the open world? That's what it looks like, open wasted space just for the sake of open wasted space to brag about how big the world is.

This is test footage.

The standard movement animation looks REALLY bizarre IMO. The speed in which he's moving, and the animation, it just looks off.

All of this footage legit looks like an alpha playground with placeholder assets. It's really fucking odd to me.

It looks so generic, so soul less... I don't understand.
It's not like if it would be super hard to imagine an high fidelity green hill style, the movie proved it was possible

It would have been great to explore an open area with a similar style. Right now it doesn't really make me want to explore as it is.

y'all are being obnoxiously harsh, and I say this as someone who has largely lost faith in Sonic Team.

"Grass + Sonic= UE Fan demo." There's also tons of those UE Fan demos so of course it's easy to compare it to those.

I admit some of the technical performance looks a bit rough, with the pop-in and the fact it seems limited to 30 FPS. But I like the concept and as something with a more open-world direction it's a fresh take compared to say yet another open-world shooter or role-playing game.

The combination of traditional Sonic elements with open world is what has my curiosity and why I think a lot of people in and out of the fandom (I don't even consider myself in the Sonic fandom, tbh. I do like some of the games tho) will be more lenient with certain technical shortcomings as long as they aren't game-breaking and the game itself pulls off its design scope well, and is fun to play with solid physics & controls.

Not to mention a good story but it's Sonic, "good" story could be subjective.

It looks so generic, so soul less... I don't understand.

You realize no game outside of maybe a new 1P AAA platformer from a Sony studio is going to have fidelity approaching that movie in real-time, right? If you're just talking the general visual style then maybe that's a good point, GHZ in the film does have a more pleasant art style.

But in terms of the fidelity? That isn't going to be possible for anything but maybe 2% of games this gen, and only from very specific 1P studios.

1 minute in..Nope
This looks GARBAGE, unequivocally garbage.
Again why do they put Sonic into realistic looking environments then stick in goofy speed ramps, rings, boosts etc? Just make it cartoony for f'@*s sake.

I just meant that this scene is proof that you can push the "realism" of Green hill really high while still maintaining the original sonic style. I of course don't expect a game to looks like a movie cgi, but the art style itself would have been possible, something that would come close.
Even sonic generations looked better

Man the overall response ITT is definitely it's own bubble and echo chamber 🤣 (it's virtually similar on the other place but with the added smugness); looks like the vast majority in the Youtube comments are hyped for this game, or at the very least have slight critiques but overall quite optimistic.

I gotta side with the Youtube comments on this one 😂

The speed looks fine but constantly spamming the boost button to go super fast is concerning to me. That may be my one gripe with his movement. I hope that speed boost lasts longer the more you level up and gain experience.

I understand Sonic has to move a little slower for the platforming so as long as he can blaze through open fields like in the video I am fine with that.

I don't think this aesthetic fit Sonic very well. Too generic, realistic and with a boring color pallet.
Rails and puzzle are fine, but the world seems depressingly empty.

I got bored just watching the video.

There's a few things here making it look like a game that is years away. Maybe too far out to be shown. The lack of enemies and placeholder music are more obvious. Then there is the map, though. It's got a weird abandoned mall feel. Like it was supposed to be a whole world of loops and ramps but got mostly bulldozed a long time ago.
