Couldnt they have given you a ring item to mess around with (spin it around your fingers) or an RC Robotnik?

In all seriousness, probably not. If you like Sonic Advance it's a pretty safe bet you'll like this. I think the reason why everyone is so upset is that they really expected a classic Sonic game ala 1-3&k. If the game was titled Sonic (Insert generic speed-related word here) it would probably be met with relative apathy instead of hate.

Sonic Advance 2, 3 and the Rush games? Yes.

Sonic Advance is a class above those, but a class below the classics.

Sonic 4 looks to fall in with the bottom batch.

God, it's so annoying to write out a lengthy reply, then take a step back and realize none of what you actually wrote will be read, just the size and tone of it will be seen and people will say "MELTDOWN LOL."

Short of it is I think the game would be better off and a lot closer to people's ideals than they realize if they just cut the speed, and removed the rare necessity for Homing Attacks and made them part of an Easy Mode. Minecarts, pinball stages, whatever, they can be tweaked. Those are the big two.

What? If you watch the footage too much speed isn't the problem, the problem is it's all inconsistent as hell. Sonic does the air dash a few times and he's at top speed. He can get up a vertical wall by jogging, but when he spin dashes out of a loop he slows down rather than speeding up. There's no consistency to the physics.

Look at the Bubbles enemy... find ANY instance where that badnik is used as an actual enemy rather than a homing attack bridge. The reliance on the homing attack isn't minimal, you can't just ignore it to play the game in a more "pure" way. The game is VERY obviously relying heavily on the homing attack. It's not something you use rarely.

Sonic 4 looks like it's following the design philosophy of Sonic Advance 1 (homing attack aside), but doing it horribly. Sorta like how Sonic 06 tried to follow the design philosophy of Sonic Adventure, but did it horribly.

Longer post had something about the loops, but that's tweakable between now and then. Speed decrease would probably affect his ability to jog up walls, provided they fix the obvious sticking glitch run into in the videos. Air dash = homing without a target, same thing, Easy Mode option.

Almost all the times in the video we saw it was optional. The exceptions are minimal enough to where they could manage to alter the stages to not require it. You could still feasibly bounce off of enemies the old way to get to the bonuses, again, it's just a matter of how they adjust the levels. MM10's Easy Mode offered far more drastic level alterations than what I'm suggesting.

That was a short way of saying "They may not fit what you want in the game, but they can be improved to be more enjoyable and interesting." Restrict the tilt of the mine cart so Sonic can't flip it over, and the silly restriction that he can't hop up ledges while hugging against the wall. The pinball table needs more going on, maybe that gimmick does need replaced with a proper stage (or even three different mini-tables with lower score requirements and checkpoints in between, each table more hazardous than the last).

Feasible fixes like that would go a long way. No, the physics won't be perfect for a Sonic game, but they may be close enough, and may still lead to a fun game. And that's what I want in the end.

I would say more, but I'm about to lose power. Huzzah country living.

It's more than just the levels. They'd have to change the fact that Sonic automatically cancels his "ball form" when launching off ramps.

The way they have it now, you can't bounce off enemies the old-fashioned way. Homing attack is required to dispatch these guys.

I mean...just why can't someone make a proper Sonic 4? It can be the same engine as Sonic 3&K, it really can! I just want some new awesome levels, bosses, and music X_______X

That's all I'd ever want from Sonic...

Oh wow at the Avatar Rewards...that's all kinds of creepy...

At least now we can get a shorter, chubbier Sonic, albeit in your avatar! That's at least one positive, right?

Right?

If that is true, then fuck this game. I'm trying to be as level headed, fair and unbiased as possible. But if that is true, seriously, What. The. Fuck?!?

Implementing a mandatory, game breaking mechanic is fucking retarded. At least make it optional. I mean....shit. How could the Iizuka and the other designers be that stupid? Plus, how could the level designers or testers think that the minecart stage and the pinball level be a good idea. I know I'm beating a dead horse, but it's beyond absurd. How can anyone create or allow such piss poor design? Do they not care that that some of the game's elements have god awful design, or do they just not give a shit?

Again, as someone who has played, studied and analyzed games for his entire life, and someone who aspires to be a game developer, some of this shit is down right offensive. The frequency of bad design in this series is a slap in the face to fans and to all of those, who bust their asses to make video games. These people should be ashamed of themselves.

Though it may seem like full of venom and seething rage, overall, I'm optimistic about this game. But being reminded of things like the homing attack, the boosters and questionable level design just pisses me the fuck off. It's not just Sega/Dimps/Sonic Team. There are other developers, that apparently, have forgotten how to make a God damn video game. What the fuck happened to this industry?
WHAT HAPPENED!!??!

"But guys, how can you all say that the homing attack is a bad thing when you haven't seen gameplay yet?! You're just being typical weird old school sega fans!"

Yeah, indeed from the looks of it, Homing attack has become a mandatory (and BADLY used e.g. forcing you to cross an obstacle by homing over a ladder of flying enemies).

No. Just accept it and it will transform into a good element. I promise.

Seriously, what is with that one chick doing the really creepy Amy Rose cosplay? :lol

"Creepy Amy Rose cosplay" seems like a redundant statement. Is there any way to cosplay a Sonic character of any kind and NOT look absurd and creepy?

NO ONE JOKINGLY REPLY WITH PICS! I know the answer is "no" already!

Well im not sure, but you might be invincible in that animation like in Sonic Rush. I think in one of the leaked act videos, Sonic bounced off an enemy while in that animation.

Because she's about to get gangbanged by all those Sonic's. Didn't you read the URL title? Sonic Orgy.

On another note, she's got some cleavage going on there :D

I'm not. I've already accepted this game's fate :)

DUDE! FUCK YOU! First I accepted the fate and then you showed up like a leper messiah trying to make me believe, only to get drunk on the sidewalk and laugh at the path I promised I won't go to... the hell with you and Sabres! GO HABS GO! :P

It's really disheartening to read this thread - some of you guys are such dicks, blaming condemning SEGA for every little detail you don't like about the game.

I'm going to buy this game on day 1, and fucking enjoy it.

That'd be great. True classic Sonic gameplay, where your options to reach a different path consist of spamming the win button, or slowly teabagging the same enemy bridge with the "yay, me!" pose... wonderful.

I have simply opened your mind to accepting the truth of this game. You will come to realized this with the third crowing of the rooster, and be overcome with shame for the words you have said.

However, know all is forgiven. You will move past your shame, for you will always be my son.

Now that pretty much 100% of the thread has accepted that this game will be shit, it's a lot more funny.

Iizuka is frustrating. It's clearly possible for him to design a good game. The problem is that he overcooks things that shouldn't be overcooked and undercooks things that desperately need cooking. Look at NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams. The NiGHTS levels in that game were really good. Pretty much exactly as they should have been. But it's not enough - he adds little NiGHTS mini-games, some of which work, some of which don't. Well, okay... at least they're short, and some of them are kinda fun. But it's not enough - he adds the kid levels, which are terrible and dull and serve to kill the pace of the entire game on the first playthrough.

Exasperating.

I accepted the truth the day they called this "Sonic 4" and the teaser trailer was shown with 2D Sonic kicking ass and taking names only to be transformed to 3D Sonic fagging around, father.

I will patiently wait for the battle of the ages when Habs take on Sabres (hopefully) in the first round of playoffs! :P

After the last game I hope we play a little stronger, should we end up meeting. You guys whooped on us like Sonic 2 whoops on Sonic Advance 2.
