It's somewhat infuriating considering how much I've wanted to play a fully-realized Sonic RPG, only to receive such a slipshod product. I mean, it's technically playable... but why would I want to subject myself to that game's idea of a battle system? Where every action you can perform in battle is preceded by having to mash on-screen markers correctly ala Elite Beat Agents, including item usage. After the 5th battle that shit wears out its welcome.

Probably the only thing that was on-point was the initial artwork created for the game.

My stance on Sonic Chronicles is that it's actually not so bad as an RPG. It has a lot of the same quirks that are apparently present in all Bioware games of the era (cluttered interface, confusing status ailments, etc.)

But far from unplayable. I wouldn't even call it bad. It's just... you have so many better options for RPGs out there, especially on the DS. The worst sin that Sonic Chronicles commits (besides a bullshit cliffhanger ending) is that it's merely straight average.

The wheels fall off quite spectacularly....
An ice world which changes the movement mechanics in an awkward way and renders the spin dash nigh on useless.
Then suddenly you're a snowball for no reason.
A casino stage where you rack up points that do....nothing (I forget if the patch that came after Wii U release changed this to earn extra lives or something).
That one of the pinball machines is like punishment that's tricky to escape from.
The final stage throws visual cohesion so far out the window that you'll be outside in a snowy half pipe which launches you into the vast sky space where the screen fades out and returns with you in a 2D factory interior.

Kind of feels like they had time to polish up to world 3 but that was it and then the rest of the game while still playable is noticeably rougher.
Just wait until you see Sonic's take on a DKCR rocketbarrel stage *shudders*

From what I heard, and saw in that book.Its probably the former, at least I hope it is. Not saying he has to make every book good. I'm not fond of him draging all this werehog business out longer than " wow sonic turned into thing for 2 pages and we never spoke about it again " . This one was, it was a large abstract kinda screw up.

I think Generations is generally regarded very well among most people as one of the only "good" Sonic games in the last 10 or 15 years. It's not perfect but it's rare that you hear too much negativity about it from basically anyone, Sonic fan or not.

I do personally like Unleashed better, though.

The Classics Collection was not the announcement I was expecting (thought of a updated port of the Genesis 360/PS3 Collection landing on PC/PS4/X1/Wii U) but was still a great announcement ! The only 3D Classic I got is Sonic 1, so I might get this for the other gems .

I'm excited about Sonic this year and I expect ALOT to come out for the series . While I don't care much for the hint (as we all know it will be either a Classic Sonic game, a Modern Sonic game, a Generations sequel or something using the Lost World Formula) but hoping we get a teaser trailer or something by March.

I'm not really getting any of the statures and merch (saving money for a PS4 and a lot of tests for college) but they look nice .

If you can't run Racing Transformed on anything but the lowest settings then I doubt you'll be able to run Lost World even at 30fps.

Take note that, last time I played, 30FPS is a separate launch option and will introduce several gamebreaking glitches. Some scripted events won't activate, rendering levels like Tropical Coast Zone 1 unbeatable, and you'll just straight up phase through many springs that are required to progress.

Soooooo if you can't play it in 60 then I suggest skipping it entirely. The game itself isn't good enough to be worth the extra hassle.

I think its a bit of both? What i read about this was odd, something isn't happening anymore and some people are grouch about it. But Colours/Unleashed are better games by a landslide though.....why would anyone prefer Shadow to those games? Shadow is completely 3D (an issue Colors has, being to focused on being 2D) and Shadow has one core gameplay style (unlike Unleashed with the Day/Night levels being completely different gameplay wise), so that are elements Shadow does well. It also fixes some issues Heroes had (better camera control, unique button for lightspeed dashing and rail switching, trails of rings always around even if you collect them), so that is something good Shadow does.

I personally find Shadow to be a 5/10 game; it does a few things right (some levels are fun, fixes over the few issues I had with Heroes, great soundtrack, ect) but it does quite a bit wrong (BS mission structure, horrid story, ect).
