Sony announces two third-party pro controllers for PS4

Guess this is another Elite controller for the ps4 that is allegedly coming out this week? Never heard of this company though. $79.99.

That's interesting, I'll be watching for reviews/impressions too. The chance of it being a high quality peripheral from a company that doesn't appear to have history of making high quality peripherals seems pretty small. Personally I would love to buy a standardized single price pro controller for the PS4. I bought a Scuf controller once before and then sold it; I'd like to buy another one, but the pricing and wait on the first was so ridiculous that I don't want to go through it again. If I could buy something high quality on amazon and have it in two days I would probably pull the trigger without much hesitation. At the moment, I use my xim4 (I don't play console shooters online, please don't unleash your hatred upon me) crossover capability to use my elite controller on PS4. It's a satisfactory solution, but all the cabling I have to setup for it is a bit annoying.

That looks almost identical to the XB1 elite controller.

Gonna need impressions/reviews regarding build quality and battery life.

Gee, what's with that d-pad? Why is it so hard for these designers to go to any gaming forum, ask which d-pads are best, be told Saturn and PS Vita and then use a similar design?

It uses Xbox Elite controller parts, sticks, triggers and paddles. Screams Chinese knock-off. Plus the seller's previous high selling product is a selfie stick, a hoover board and some Mega Man headphones.

God I wish Sony would get its ass in gear and offer us some real controllers.

They really have cheaped out this gen.

And my elite controller will.collect dust as I play on my pro.

Yuck.

I don't get the hate; they both look great. It's not like the DS4 is a sex symbol or anything. And honestly, with the DS4's shitty battery life, if it doesn't sleep on a charging cradle, you probably play "wired" half the time anyway...

That NACON controller looks nice. Hoping for the best, expecting the worst.

I don't see it on amazon. Is it not coming out in the US?

These had better be wireless. Show a little backbone, Sony. The courageous thing would have been to remove the USB ports completely, so any kind of degenerate wired controller use was impossible.

They're not wireless, the cables are detachable though. Unlike most 3rd party controllers, these have headphone jacks.

100% getting the Nacon as soon as I can. I've owned the Xbox Elite controller for less than a month, and it already has me playing on Xbox One over PS4 wherever possible.

I thought the Nacon looked like the cheaper of the two, but after looking into it, I'm pretty sure it's a better controller, with a better set of features. The tuning/mapping software alone is enough for me to choose the Nacon. I don't like the placement of the extra buttons on either of the controllers, though. On the Razer, you now have three shoulder buttons to deal with, and on the Nacon, they're paired on a hinge so you can never press (M1 or M2) at the same time as you press their counterparts (M3 or M4).

I know the Nacon is mainly for FPS, but I wonder if it works well with fighting games, cause I play those too and I don't want to keep switching controllers.

It's a pro controller. Having a wired controller means less input lag. Not excusing them though, I would also prefer wireless but I understand that wired also has its benefits and some "pro players" will probably find that appealing

DIdn't MS say they spent like 100 million on their elite controller? No wonder Sony would not bother with that kind of thing and license these kinds of things out. Of course, those third parties are gonna do things cheaply
They didnt spend 100 million on developing the base xbone controller. If they did they are just idiots.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the lack of lightbar actually prevents you from tracking this correctly for PSVR no? Seems like a silly oversight. I know it's got Gyro regardless, but the light, like the move balls, is how the camera actually tracks the controller in space?

Seems more like this is aimed more at Call of Duty/Overwatch/etc. tryhards in the vein of yours truly, not someone playing REVII or Robinson the journey

Might be a limitation of it having to be wired only so that immediately limited it's use outside of multiplayer

I'd be all over these but they look like they've gone for a shape that's similar to an Xbox controller, I wish there was on that had the feel and shape of a dual shock 4. I might just get a scuf but I've heard people say they're poorly made.

Bought the Razer Raiju and it's been good so far.

The sticks are really sensitive/smooth and feel great to use. The 4 extra buttons can be very quickly mapped in a few secs; don't need to go into any apps or anything, can do it from the controller itself. The M3 and M4 are placed well (behind the controller) and are easy to use. The other two I haven't used in game (next to R2/L2), so don't know yet. You don't want to map to these buttons stuff that you'd need very regularly though.

The face buttons have a distinct click and feel to them, but not much travel like the normal DS4 face buttons. It is something I had to get used to, but I guess these buttons are more precise and quicker in execution?

The shape is like a Xbox controller. I have always only used DS controllers, but I don't mind this either. Seems fine.

Didn't even think about the wired aspect, you're right that they're AIMED at the cod playing type, but I imagine everyone would prefer not ot have to change controllers all the time for different activities. It's not like Elite Xbox controllers are only selling to cod pros. Either way though with the wire they'd be unsuitable for a lot of VR.

Seems like it misses the point of the xbone trigger/bumper design, with those rigid ass bumpers. I'd like to try one, seems like it would dig into your index finger/not be as comfortable to press with the muscle of your finger (as bumpers are meant to be 'bumped' with). 360 bumpers were smooth and separated from the trigger completely, Xbone bumpers run into the trigger like this, but they flow into each other so your finger rests on both comfortably.

Logitech used to make awesome controllers for the PS2, wireless too. This was a godsend.

Is the 3rd party market no longer viable?

That Razor one looks incredibly uncomfortable to hold, then again from the description I barely understand any of the advantages to them. I guess the world of competitive gaming is just alient to me.

I'm surprised at all the people poo pooing wired controllers, since I got my PS4 I almost barely use it unhooked. Wireless is a gimmick IMO.

Agreed. I love the XB1 controller but the first version had fucked bumpers and at best the standard controller is a slight deviation from the 360 controller. If that cost 100 million I'd love to have gone to that coke party.
