Might grab a Z3 compact as my main phone. I like how Sony understands that not everybody needs or want huge ass phones (unlike Samsung) but still do not compromise on the specs...

Not sure why you're shitting on Samsung when literally every manufacturer is guilty of this.

Hey when do you guys think they'll release specs per country. I'm gonna need to know which country to order a z3c from so it'll work on AT&T LTE.

Supposedly UK release is sept 26...

edit: d5803 will be the one to get for At&t

Does the Z3 or Z3c have an IR blaster? this phone seems to have everything i'd want in my next phone, but didnt see any details on this.

I was at IFA and took a look at both. The Z3 was way too large for me but I found the Z3C to be perfectly handy. I'm gonna go with that I think.

Nope no IR blasters even tough sony was the fist to inc operate it on their devices

Alpha isnt high end ?

Super disappointing. This could've been the perfect phone. I use the IR blaster on my M7 all the time. Not sure I could go without it now =/

What do you use it for? I had in in one of.my tablets, but it seems completely useless to me. I already have a remote which.I.don't need to wake from sleep to use. Maybe I am.not using it right.

I watch tv in bed at night and sometimes I don't bring the TV/cable remote with me. my phone is always charging next to me and its convenient to change channels or turn off the TV when im about to KO

Pretty sure it is and that's my point that Samsung also makes smaller high end phones.

Alpha is compact and it is a nice phone, but it is really not high end phone like Z3C.... it is like a lot nicer midrange phone but not flagshhip. Camera, small battery, even custom chipset while fast, isnt really Q801 rival (gets too hot, what about custom roms?).... not to mention no waterproofing.

It has Snpadragon 801 http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_alpha-review-1118p6.php ,not many high end phones have waterproofing,it has a 12 MP camera and a 720p screen like the Z3C,though it has a smaller battery it's still a competitor to the Z3 compact.

Ah - thanks, their specs page only mentioned Exynos. What markets are getting 801? All reviews so far were with Exynos.

In any case, plenty of things all together - camera, small battery (40% bigger on Z3C), waterproofing, stereo speakers, and not up to part quality feel make Z3C one clear step above.

In other words, Alpha might be a nice phone but it is not smaller S5. It is missing its camera, battery and waterproofing compared to S5.

Z3C review claiming the battery life, audio (with average speaker loudness) and build quality are great, camera not so much when compared with competing offerings from Samsung http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_z3_compact-review-1135p10.php

That is insane. 14 hours of web browsing. My Z1 can barely last half of that. Now my phone feels very inadequate . Yeah, Sonys image processing is pretty meh. Not even sure why it's such a huge problem for them.

When can we expect to hear about the actual Z3 Tablet? My Nexus 7 is just too small.
I thought they were only releasing the Z3C tablet, there's goint to be a 10 inch tablet too?

Shame about the Z3C camera... Can't they get everything good just once?
The rest sounds pretty awesome

It appears they have good camera lenses, but the software is crap. I have a Z2, while the camera quality is far from crap, it leaves a lot to be desired.

is the only difference between the z3 & z3c is that the z3c doesn't output 1080p? (or capture 1080p footage?) otherwise they are exactly the same?

Differences to Z3:
- 4.6 inch screen (instead of 5.2 inch)
- 720p display (instead of 1080p)
- 2GB memory (instead of 3GB)
- 2600mAh battery (instead of 3100mAh, which in turn is smaller than Z2's 3200mAh)

It can record videos up to 4K.

The original Tablet Z was announced in Feb 2013, and the Z2 in Feb 2014. So I guess Feb 2015. Stupid really that they weren't all synced.

The phones were
Z January 2013 announce, February release
Z1 September 2013 announce and release
Z2 February 2014 announce, March release
Z3 September 2014 announce

I have the Tab Z and the Z1 phone, so come April next year when my Z1 contract expires, I will likely pick up a Z3 tab and Z4 phone.

My GF wants a tablet too but wants 10" (oo err) so I'll probably get her a Z2 for her birthday or something.

less memory too huh? So z3 performs tasks / multi-tasking better then?

And smaller battery too? Hmm.. Looks like normal z3 for me.

The Z3 Compact is already top of the bunch with its battery according to GSM arena battery tests. It's some insane optimisation. I can't wait for the Z3 results.

With those reviews, it's already settled for me. My next phone will be a Sony Z3C.

When in the hell it will be available here in Chile? that's the question.

i suspect that Z3 will get 20%-25% better GSM Arena results because it will get much better call time... but in real life, it will likely be all the same, considering screen time is what spends the battery the most.

Interesting thing, I think Sony has rated them both for 15 hrs of video playback, seems like spot on.

What's truly impressive is that this isn't even with Stamina mode on! Yeh, they are accurate estimates.

I can't believe I'm going to be getting 4 days average battery life some this thing with Android L or stamina mode. On the weeks that I'm so busy and not using my phone as much, I can see it lasting 5-6 days with power saving mode.

I think I may pull the trigger right around the last day of preorder and take my chances so I can lock in that $500 price off contract before it gets bumped up again. I'd love to play with Z3 first to see how much I still care about the huge size (especially since it's thinner at 7.3 mm) and wait on the Nexus 6 news. But realistically, the Nexus 6 needs to have an huge battery (never has happened in the past - and being based off of the Moto X won't help it here). It also needs to deliver on the camera and the design. I know that Android L is going to run beautifully on this, but that would be practically the only thing I'm buying the phone for.

Don't really care about the snapdragon 805 because it's going to barely a CPU upgrade and primarily a GPU upgrade. I don't play high-end games on my phone often and the snapdragon 801 can play anything already. Any gaming/heavy browsing I'd do - I think Nexus 9 or Nvidia Tablet should be able to take care of that easily because the Tegra K1 destroys the Snapdragon 805.

god dammit, when are these phones coming out?

Cant see it anywhere on the carrier sites in Aus.

Over here, I don't think I've ever seen a carrier pre order for something that wasn't Apple or Samsung. But the Z3C is out at the end of the month here, hopefully the regular edition follows suit.

Z3 is a little big, and I got my Nexus 5 a little to recently to upgrade (April), but I'm definitely not going back from a 1080p device to 720, no way.

Basically just holding out to see what Google has to say in another 6 weeks or so.. by that time the Z3 should be easy enough to grab.

Really interested in seeing the battery life for the Z3 now.

Z2 is already great.
It is. I've bought the Z2 for the battery alone and it's fucking awesome.
Best smartphone I've ever had.
If the Z3 really has a clearly better battery >>>>>> DAY 1

Super disappointing. This could've been the perfect phone. I use the IR blaster on my M7 all the time. Not sure I could go without it now =/

More and more devices have network controls these days. Eg my bravia can be controlled with the Sony sideview app, so maybe they don't see the need for an IR blaster anymore?

What's the storage on the z3 tablet? While iPad mini retina is £319 that is for the 16GB. 32Gb is £399 so a 32Gb z3 tablet would still be a decent amount cheaper

16 GB and 32 GB with WiFI, 16 GB with LTE.

€50 more expensive for 32 GB version... although I would not bother with MicroSD... apparently from their 4.4.4 ROMs, Sony lets you copy apps to MicroSD (again).

And prices will certainly drop in few months, as usual.

I've been in the market for a new phone and noticed the Z3 Compact has remote play. Is it as robust as the Vita's remote play? The one thing I read about it said "you need to be on the same wi-fi network as the PS4". I thought the Vita could remote play from anywhere as long as you had a wi-fi connection. Obviously you need to have a spare PS4 controller, but I'd park one at work if I could play during my lunch break.

i would guess that it works the same when it comes to network as PS Vita... but experience might be better due to actually using PS4 controller... unless it is weird to hold it like that, not sure.

Z3 might be better for remote play due to larger screen but I guess Z3C will work fine, just tried putting my moto g on top of PS3 controller and seems fine.

I would guess that 8" will work the best.
