Sony Confirms In-Game XMB...

How about the lack of PSN/XMB OS functions during PS2 gaming? I don't like being cut off from PSN when I play PS2 games :(
Agreed.

It better be Q1 2008...
While ur at it add some IM feature, that mailing system is so outdated...
This too. But I'm not sure if they'll go this route.
It appears that they expect most people to socialize in HOME like this, so I'm not sure if we'll get an XMB IM System anytime soon. :/

If implemented properly, Xbox-style notifications for games, messages, discussions, friends list access, etc. inside each game.
umm. I think i see when my friends come online already, just can't do anything about it :)

I'm surprised they haven't gotten it done already since the basic notification works already.

Microsoft had this fucking feature AT LAUNCH; there's no reason for this to take so damn long!

It took Microsoft 6 months to add background downloading. Were you this mad back then, too? Yeesh, relax.

Wow. Summer 08 is Home, in-game XMB and DS3...
O.o

What will be left to complain about in 2009? NeoGAF might as well just close up shop.

but then whats the point of in-game xmb?

Its neat feature for people who will use it I guess.
I'd much rather have custom tracks for games like Burnout.

I'm guessing you've never used Xbox Live in this case. Basically what people are wanting for PSN is the ease of XBL. If I'm playing warhawk on PS3 I'll get a notification on my screen that somebody on my friends list signed in, but to try and get ahold of them I have to quit my game to send them a message that I want them to join me. On XBL all you gotta do is hit the guide button on the controller and you can immediately see a list of which friends are on, what game they're playing and send them a message or invite into the game you are currently in. This works across all Xbox 360 games and makes gaming with your friends alot easier than it is on PSN.

If you do any sort of online gaming this is something you want, and it;s why PS3 owners have been begging fo it since day 1.

I'll be happy if this means that people on my friend list will be able to see that I'm playing "X" whie they're playing "Y". Especially if it means that they stop spamming me invites and fucking up my game.

Killer 08 software line up check
DS3 coming 2008 check
In Game XMB check
Divx support, almost a check.

interest in purchasing a PSTriple +1

Playstation store redesign please.

Yes I was, dude! Why wouldn't I be, after having to leave the 360 idle for hours so I could download the 1-gig NFS: Most Wanted demo, only to have it be a piece of shit? :(

Some things make me very angry. XMB is not one; no background downloading, however, is. :(

No don't! I like PSN store; I just wish it had a game tab section or search function. :(

In game XMB would be nice, but just some basic improvements to friends management in general would be welcome. e.g. the ability to see when a friend was last online, the games they're playing, etc

You can do that already.

Except for that extra Hamilton in your wallet...amirite?

Yep.

And guys, I'm kiddng. Whenever a company announces their intention to do something in the undetermined future, I always wonder why they announced it in the first place. They should make a plan and execute.

In-game XMB is something that the PS3 has needed since day one, and is a welcome addition.

That's coming at well. For political reasons (in the BDA), Sony is holding off until some other CE standalones with it are released.

Damnation. I guess these are the luxuries we give up to build a broad coalition.

Not necessarily. They still have to make it so the music overrides the in-game music.
I hope they stop it from going over games like Uncharted, Heavenly Sword etc. That'd spoil them. I'd just prefer games that it's relevant to have them, to have them. Eg. Motorstorm, bowling etc.

Well if you don't want it to go over games, don't use it and the default music will play.

Noone should have the ability to spoil games!!!!
Speak for your fucking self. Customization is always good as an option. It only increases people's investment in and satisfaction with the product.

Well its the same for 360. You dont HAVE to use it, but you can when you want to. Of course people wont play their own music over RPGs, cinematic action titles, or games with a great soundtrack in general.

But for most racing games (except Sega made racing games for the most part...and even then only Daytona USA games) and for some free roamers with lame soundtracks (Crackdown im looking at you) custom soundtracks can make a game that much more enjoyable. For instance, once Castle crashers releases on XBLA, if it has a lame soundtrack, i'll use Guardian Heroes tracks and perhaps Double Dragon arrange tracks for the game.

I know the drill

I don't play online much but I do see the advantage to using the in-game xmb there.

It's the difference between being locked in a soundproof room and being given a set of earplugs when you don't want to be disturbed.

Wow. I never knew the PS3 disabled telephones, IM PC software, doorbells, and all other communication devices near it while it's being played. Good thing they're putting an end to that with a firmware update!

So once they give us in-game XMB, what more can we bitch about GAF?
HOME?
Custom soundtracks?

Can the PS3 send voice messages yet? Thats the biggest gripe i have about messaging the few ppl on my friends list. i dont want to have to typ out my message.

Exactly. They've got away with this for far too long!

...and you're missing the point completely. I'm not giving my personal contact details to people I play games with on the net. My gaming "friends" get my gamer tag and that's it. The comparison was simply that if you don't want to be disturbed, turn off the notifications... it's better that than not having the choice.

Will in game XMB mean custom soundtracks on everything I play?

If so, then I'm excited. If not, then I don't care about in game XMB.

Also, for our next thing to bitch about, I nominate getting PS2 emulation going for 40 GB PS3 consoles.

Fuck stupid features like Blu-ray movies on the PSP...

I WISH I COULD LISTEN TO THE LOSSLESS SOUNDTRACKS IN THE DIE HARD SERIES THAT I PAID OVER 80 DOLLARS FOR

Garnett Lee just downed a bottle of scotch at these excellent news!
