Sony Controller King Memes

Where does this AA-battery fetish come from?

How this is somehow better:

Have at least 4 rechargeable AA batteries on hand. (to switch them if they end in the middle of session)

Or using batteries = if gaming lets say 1000h / year, and pair of batteries last only 10h (assuming playstation controller would use more energy) = 100x battery change = around 0.5€ for one AA, 200x 0.5€ means 100€ / year. or 800€ / gen

"The average lifespan of AA batteries in an Xbox controller is roughly 40 hours. The average lifespan of the most common rechargeable battery pack, the Xbox Play and Charge Kit, is only 30 hours. The Play and Charge kit's battery life decreases over time too. "

So lets use 40h = 1000/40 = 25 x 2 x 0.5€ = 25€ into batteries/ year. 8 years of gaming = 200€ into batteries with 1000h/ year gaming.

Or good charger + 4x AA rechargeable = maybe 40€ initial purchase and maybe have to replace them once in gen = add 10-20€ = total of 50-60€ / gen.

Or when having 2x controllers = 8x AA rechargeable + 20-40€ if replacing them once/gen. = 50-60€ initial investment + 20-40€ to replace 8x rechargeable = 70-100€/gen

vs.

Charge controller from usb = free

Charge controller from official cradle = 20-25€ / gen

with 2 controllers, no need to stop gaming to charge (if playing alone) because one is always full on the cradle = 20-25€

DS4 battery lasts around 7-10h (in my experience, with light on dim), that is plenty enough when using cradle + 2 controllers, just place the controller on the cradle every time = always 1-2 fully charged controllers ready.

Or when battery/AA is emptied while gaming:

Find full AA batteries or recharged ones (I know I dont have them hanging always around, when you have cable = no need to buy more later, like AA)
vs
just stick usb cable into the controller / take one from cradle and continue.

I have 4 x DS4, two are from 2013 november, still working perfectly, battery lasts hours (havent counted but probably 4-7h, long enough not to be drained in long sessions), and these 2 have maybe 4000-7000h of game play on them at least.

Then 1 that came with ps4 pro + one orange that I bought because it looks cool + cradle = always full controller even if I forget to charge one or two as I just rotate them now into the cradle and take fully charged to the table

Many of my friends have just 1-2 controllers + cradle and I don't remember that anybody have said that it sucks or is inconvenience.

Just weird to worship AA, imagine a cellphone with AA batteries, doesnt make any more sense than gaming controller.

To burrito bandito:

There is clearly something wrong with your controller(s) or you are exaggerating, if you have to used it on wired all the time. Please explain why hours of game play would mean that you have to keep it on cable all the time?

Like even if it lasts only 4-5h, then there should not be a reason to keep it on cable all the time. And charging lithium batteries 24/7 fucks them up anyway

I agree that it could last longer, like switch/wiiu pro controller does, but IMO it is not really a big deal at all when using cradle/cable.

My conclusion is:

That if internal battery lasts for 20-80h = nobody complains, so AA isnt in any way superior vs internal battery, it is just about the amount of hours between charges

PS5 controller have usb C so it is possible that they have much better battery life and faster charge

Like Sony wh1000xm3 headphones, their battery last 25-30h with max ANC + best quality, and with usb-c 10minutes of charging gives 5 hours of usage.

So if (speculating) PS5 controller lasts 10-30h + charges really fast = zero reason to use AA
In certain people minds, the AA battery is the pinnacle of battery technology and nothing else can or will ever be better or more practical.

Where does this AA-battery fetish come from?

Let me stop you right there on that wall of text, 40 euros for 4 batteries and charger the fuck?

4 eneloops, (What every single person uses) are 10 euros a pack. Another 10 euros for a charger.

These batteries (ask anyone) have lasted an entire generation and still give full amount of gaming expectant hours (around 15 hours) of gaming with a charge. My DS4 lasts about 5 hours, my PS3 controllers? Completely rooted a few minutes at best and require new internal batteries. And thus we come to the entire point of why people still prefer them...

Again - Hate internal batteries:
-Controller will die or get shorter life after years
-Need to plug ever 8-12 hours (ds4)
-Need to keep cable around and play close to console

AA batteries:
-Swap and go
-You are never wired
-Controler fine after thousand of years
-Xbox one pad and 360 both laster 40-45hours
-Can use AA or rechargables
-Microsoft/Sony can even put a batter pack that goes in place of AA batteries which You charge like internal.

There are no cons to properly done AA solution

I prefer this to buying my own batteries, because when it dies I just plug it in with the cord. We are so coddled nowadays (I'm still using my launch PS4 dualshock, battery life is noticeably shorter, but it still works for entire play sessions)

This is hilarious 😂

I don't think controllers that take AA last much longer compared to internal batteries. Buttons and triggers stop working or lose their "click". D Pad and Sticks wear down.

It's just personal choice if you want to buy multiple battery packs or charging cords or multiple controllers.

It's DS4 internal battery that sucks, there's no reason at all to refuse 40h internal battery life for example. Also, many people can't seem to comprehend that internal batteries can be replacable too, even upgraded.

The first option is better and way cheaper.
No device today should use AA batteries... rechargeable batteries are the best included in the controller are the best.

No one gives a shit about your fucking stone age battery technological preferences.

Get that shit the fuck out of this meme thread and go cry somewhere else.

You've pulled those figures out of your backside.

I prefer my XB1 controller to my DS4 because one I have to plug on charge after every gaming session, the other I have to swap my rechargeables around once or twice a month.

I'll prefer the DS5 if its battery life is closer to the Switch than the DS4.

I don't know why some people have such detest for batteries, I also don't know why some people have a fetish for them. I just want what's most convenient. And for me, in order of convenience it's Switch Pro controller > XB1 controller > DS4

The truth about the batteries is it has always been about saving MS money, not giving options. Yet, they'll still charge the same $60 for the controllers that the DS4/5 is/will be. And, of course, put out a charge kit and ask for more money.

Though, if in two gens they finally join the present and use internal batteries, Xbox fans will drop the options mantra real quick and praise it as innovative.

Depends if it has DS4 battery life or Elite Controller 2 battery life. If it's more on par with the former, there's absolutely no chance Xbox fans would praise it.

THANK YOU.

NOW CAN WE GO BACK TO POSTING MEMES!?

not really:

- no 3.5 mm jack
- Built-in microphone, horrible for in-game chat, you will hear a lot of people talking lol
- still the stupid glowing light, will destroy battery life
- oh the horrible D-Pad, looks like the PSP D-Pad.
- horrible buttons, not even colored
- questionable two-color scheme
- gimmick features, that mostly dev will ignore, even on the switch those features are mostly ignored

oh, and it uses batteries.

But post those funny memes. It's just not the perfect controller like you pretend it to be and people are even complaining now:

Its on top of /r/gaming and on top of reddit.

Here comes that xbot trying to put a downer on the ps5. I See your AV is accurate to real life Persona.

It has got a 3.5 mm jack btw you absolute cretin

This made me imagine an alternate reality in which all game consoles are lille kid's toys, and that is the new PS5 controller, the most advanced one to date, but still shit. That would be a horrible place to live 😱

That's what video games once were. THIS is the alternate reality. I feel bad for those still stuck in the original timeline.

All good points.
Im good with a long internal battery life too like PS3 and wii u pro controller
