Sony copies non-games, invents new non-non-game genre

Did Sony dev. these games? Sega made the brain training knock-off, which would just be business as usual. lol

What about the Wario Ware clone, Byte Hell 2000 (I know I'm butchering the name again because of Gamespot misinformation but whatever)

that's a remake of an old game, but they did replace some of the graphics with people that look like Mario, Luigi and Wario.

I think part of the issue though is that these games are going to miss something without the stylus... well, the Animal crossing one aside.

Well if they actually had something to begin with...

...but actually, you're wrong! Animal Crossing on PSP would miss drawing constellations, a decent way to write letters and a top screen where 90% is devoted to the sky!

to pet your dog, pet it with the stylus
to call your dog, call its name
to get it to do a trick, say the name of the trick

vs

to pet your dog, press Triangle
to call your dog, press square
to get it to do a trick , move the control stick.

I think the thing that is making Brain training, Nintendogs etc popular is the interaction. Animal crossing, i think it could be done pixel for pixel / function for function could it not? i don't think the interface for that game makes that much of a difference? (unless my memory is playing tricks on me)

:lol I vaguely recall a long drawn out battle over whether Sega's Brain Training game was worthless because it was essentially a multiple choice game and someone actually thought it was more worthwhile. I see this discussion heading in the same direction.

you don't get what I'm trying to say man! A brain test is a brain test. Clearly DS brain test is a better brain test, but fundamentally brain tests suck. A virtual pet is a virtual pet. Clearly, DS Virtual pets are better but fundamentally virtual pets suck.

Fixed. :D

It's ALL over! Sony has given up the battle and the next wave of PSP software will be nothing but poor knockoffs of DS bestsellers! I HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY NBOTS YOU RUINED MY LIFE!

Don't be sad... it won't work on PSP.

Example:

DS
Brain Training - 1.5M
Brain Training 2 - 1.0M

PSP
Brain Training - about 0.25M

Bingo. That's pretty much the biggest flaw with games like these... and the fact that the PSP doesn't have the broad appeal of the DS yet. These games reek of desperation to try and capture that, but IMO, it's probably not going to help, especially when they're *such* blatant rip-offs.

Like others have said, Sony and PSP devs should be playing to the system's strengths, not just blatantly copying games that did well on rival hardware. I think that games like an online-enabled GT4 Mobile at launch could've resulted in a much different picture than what we're looking at now, setting a standard for handheld online gaming with a flagship title with mass appeal.

I love my PSP, but it's a very short list of games that I have/want for it at this point. My money'll still be going to Brain Age in April/May.

brain training is basically "oh... more school!" but it's actually quite fun.

Dunno why, it just is.

How fast can i do sums? yes - it sounds UTTERLY boring, but there is something addictive about it.

"GT4 Mobile"
it's weird - i like GT4 but i'm not one of those gamers that is mad into it, but for some reason, it feels like it would be perfectly suited to the PSP. Simply because it's almost like a level'ing car game, where completing races and challenges adds up to something better. As a result , it's one of my most anticipated games.

I was thinking of getting animal crossing and a DS, but i began to read up on animal crossing adn what you do in the game. And i thought to myself this stuff sounds alot like the stuff i try to get away from by playing video games. That said i might give the animal crossing clone a try, since i already have a psp.

You won't be able to pet your dog or cat via touchscreen though. Almost like their in some impenitrable glass case of emotion

:(

I'm sorry DCharlie, I cannot support this. My brain has been trained just fine, thank you very much! And I only needed to "waste" 20 years of my life and 15,000 dollars to do it and it wasn't even for fun. No room for awful non-games capatilizing on the Japanese current desire for throwaway shareware with touch features and whatever passes for INNOVATION™ these days!

Brain Training competition mode looks great. And I'm looking forward to playing this game holding the DS like a book. About these PSP spin offs, we'll see how good they turn out to be. Not sure this is what the PSP crowd expect though, it may not sell well. More focus on high production RPGs would suit the PSP better.

Drama drama. Every year over 400 titles get released in each territory. A few non-games won't hurt you. Really.

It doesn't hurt me! They can keep releasing them! I just like complaining about them.

why not, you know, suck it and see?

i thought the same as you : why on EARTH would i want to try this? it looks bobbins...

but it's not - it's just so moreish.

Wow, while I like seeing "non games" gain more attention.... this is strait up sad.. then again dont just blame sony, other publishers are the ones jumping on this too...

Why isn't nintendo doing anything about the terrible AC rip?

What are they going to do? Ripoffs happen everyday in the industry, they can't do anything about it. Hell Konami released a dog game years ago and Nintendogs looks very similar to it, and they can't do anything about it either.

Locoroco is nothing like those games though ...

interestingly, Fukufuku shima was delay on the DAY it was originally supposed to come out - with copies already in the shops. It was pushed back 2-3 weeks. I wonder if there was some sort of change made to the final version or something?

it is very similar to say the least.

I guess this means Nintendo can release a Shadow of the Collosus style game, a GT game, Locoroco copy or whatever now though.

Dogs Life? or something else? over here it came out after Nintendogs- so i assume you mean something else... ?

True, Haven't seen all the screenshots or gameplay movies, but this looks more like a clone then a ripoff.

Just a quick thought...nothing serious or anything...but erm only one of those games is made by Sony :lol It isn't Sony copying Nintendo at all, it's other publishers. Look at the publisher name on the boxart before you all jump to conclusions :D

They made Fufufuku, not sure about the dog game but its not listed on their site so I guess its not made by them.

Yeh but a dog game is a dog game. it is bound to look like Nintendogs. A game that looks like Animal Crossing even down to the same mole that pops out of the ground and the ability to draw star constellations?
