Sony cuts off Circuit City?

Good riddance, the karma from fucking their higher paid employees a few years ago really came back to bite them in the ass.

Wow, poor Circuit City. Their stock is at like 20 cents, their suppliers are cutting off shipments, and now sinkholes are attacking their warehouses.

Locust Horde in cahoots with BestBuy confirmed.
E-Day begins.

So true, now to wait for them to annouce clearance and raid the stores for cheap gaming/movie/tv/speaker/music loots.

There's a CC three stores down from a BB in one of the big shopping plazas around here; it's almost depressingly empty every time I go in. I don't think I've ever seen more than twenty or thirty customers inside at a time.

Thank god. I'm really sick of seeing their overpriced little caves in Canadian malls that are "The Source by Circuit City". I have always felt stung each time I've had to resort to using them... (ie. the night my ethernet cord crapped out and I needed the net for studying).

Fucking toy monster trucks all over the floor, employees asking if you want batteries with that (even though the thing you're buying doesn't use batteries), pretty much the most terrible selection to choose from (Nexxxxxxxxxxxxxxtech!!!!).

And Far Cry and Neverwinter Nights are not $60 anymore...

Can't say I'm surprised they are going under.

CC and Best Buy are equal distances from me (about 5 minutes), but CC has much better customer service. I would hate to see them go.

Great, just what Best Buy needs, less competition. I can hardly ever find a good deal on anything at BB anymore, this is only going to make it worse.

Fuck 'em. Their organization (of lack thereof) of their DVDs and video games pisses me off to no end.

This. They do not deserve to be in business. They are run SOOOO poorly that the free market has spoken and it's time for them to die. They have 4 year old xbox games at my CC that are on way marked down, only nobody marked them, so they sit on the shelf marked $49.99 for games that are probably $5 when you ring them up at the register. When your stores don't even mark games down so that you can maximize your sales and get rid of old product as quick as possible, you shouldn't be in business. I've never seen any store run so badly, not even local stores. It's like nobody that works there gives two shits about their job. They somehow managed to find the shittiest possible employees they could.

More evidence that people don't have money to spend.

Its a scary time. I know a few small business owners and they aren't too happy these days.
No, not really, Circuit City has been going down hill for a long time; they were going to change their name there for awhile and redo the stores to give themselves a new image. However, recent events have only got things to move a little faster with their decline.

Didn't Sega (or was it Nintendo?) pull a similar stunt with K-mart last gen?
It was Sega. I remember them not paying Sega from Dreamcast launch or something. I was thinking when Sega went third party, I would not see a game at K-Mart by them, but I was wrong.

Going back to the story, CC use to be great, but they've gone downhill. I seriously thought I was the only one with a greatly disorganized CC (guess others have a disoraganized one too). I'm even starting to have an easier time finding games at K-Mart these days (and they use to be by far the worst retailer for games IMO).

CC is good for the occassional cheap deal. Those bastards tried to sell me a returned Xbox 360 as new. But karma came back around and a register person allowed me to use a nice coupon for my 60gb PS3 purchase that excluded consoles. Can't say I'll miss them, though.

No kidding. I see this at my local store a lot. However, I don't really see it as a bad thing; in most cases it's a lot easier to get the deals since no one knows about them, which means they never sellout that quickly. Circuit City is an awesome place to get deals.

The only store I've ever wanted to die is CompUSA. I'm so glad that store is dead. They were over priced and had the worst policies I've ever seen.

Everyone's pulling out of there...won't be long before they liquidate completely I'd imagine.

That's what she said.

Circuit City has always been awesome when they mark down their games in those crazy cheap ass bins. I've found plenty of good deals from CC through CAG. I never go there for anything else though. Any other reason I could've gone to CC usually gets fulfilled by Newegg.

It was no accident, the new CEO's restructuring plan involved firing all the higher-paid employees, i.e., everyone with a clue and/or experience. It seems to have worked.

I've avoided Circuit City ever since their hilarious Divx disaster, but I went there a couple months ago looking for a Wii. The first thing most people would spot on entering the store was a giant HD-DVD display for the 360 add-on drive, touting all the wonderful benefits of that particular HD format. Two months ago.

It's a bit surprising they lasted this long, frankly.

CC demise started with firing all their best sales people.

CC has customer service?
Last night I purchased the Fallout 3 CE. The girl behind the counter gave me my $10 gift card and flashed her boobs when her costume got caught on the corner of the register. She just smiled and said "Happy Halloween!"

That's customer service.

Oh please, they had to fire their higher paid employees because fucktrads that go to Wal-Mart to save 3 cents on DVDs.
Circuit City is a shit load better than Best Buy & a fuck load better than Wal-Mart, K-Mart & Target.
Better service & prices than Best Buy & a shit load better service & organization than the rest I mentioned.

I must be one of the few that likes Circuit City. They've been having awesome gaming deals for at least a year now: every new release has had a $10-15 gift card or free extra. Sometimes they even offer free games with new releases (buying CoD4 you got CoD3, buying Condemned 2 you got Condemned 1, etc). Best Buy and others never have deals like that.

The store IS run very poorly though. The organization is shitty and they never mark down prices on their stuff either. Worst of all, at my local one there's only a single register for the entire store (which is also the customer service section)!

...Must be a CC employee :lol

Ya the CC near me is a disorganized mess to. And none of the employees (when you can actually find one) are helpful at all. Getting in and outta there is super slow! But if there is a deal to be had I will be there to have it.

It's too bad, Circuit City has more $10 Gift card or $10 off deals than any other major retailer, and as long as they have stores nearby you can pricematch those deals with Best Buy.

Pics or it didnt happen.

This would explain why for the past year I have had to go to customer service counter to check out, after walking past the CHECKOUT REGISTERS!!!

There hasn't been a Circuit City in Cleveland for years. :(
There's nothing IN Cleveland, but there are stores east, south, and west of the city.

According to someone who works at Best Buy corporate, CC isn't getting new stock of ANYTHING for the holidays this year. Looking forward to their Black Friday ad. "50% off whatever we happen to have on the shelves."

I don't know if they will close all together, but it sounds like a mass consolidation will have to happen.(or maybe a buy out)
they have opened up several stores here in Northern Ca over the last year so looks like they are still expanding? Every time I go into one its deserted while the bestbuy across the street is packed:lol

The Source is nothing like a CC in the States. CC is much like Futureshop or Best Buy, a big box retailer. Radio Shack and The Source, while selling some games, aren't nearly the same.

Either you work for CC, or you are magically blessed with some sort of mythical CC I've never seen on either coast of the US. Their sale prices are usually pretty good, but their normal prices on things are ridiculous and generally way over BB/Walmart/etc, I've had horrible service at every store I've been to at some time or another, and their organization is terrible, and their selection is poor, and what they do have is usually overpriced.

Also it's "fucktard."

I had a nice car stereo installed by Circuit City this past summer. I feel like shit buying their 3 year protection program now,the fuckers are gonna be chapter 11 from the looks of it.
I had better make use of the service,my speakers need repair.

I hate to see them go under. Their prices are okish but honestly Best Buy deals aren't all that either nowdays, years back they seemed to offer better deals. Plus the Best Buys in my area walk around like of irritable twats when asking them questions. Not just me though, friends comment about their employees acting like assholes as well. Fuck service like that.
