Like it or not, MS is doing all the right things, but they haven't proven they can deliver on the games yet. E3 is going to be the most important conference for them.

We know they have new studios, but that doesn't mean any of the games will be good. Once these studios start announcing and delivering quality experiences the narrative will change. Until then it is still a wait and see moment for a lot of gamers.

Power will get the hardcore and tech enthusiasts, but they need to show the diversity and quality of games that will grasp the mindset of gamers. Until then, it's Sony generation to lose.

100% true. Thats why this coming gen is their chance to attract more people and change their way around.

I want them to succeed, I want competition. At the end of the day for someone that loves this medium its a win-win situation

Funny thing is I've enjoyed the MS exclusives I played. Lol I don't even buy many 3rd party games anymore. Ironically money has been tight lately and gamepass is the best thing to happen for me. I wouldn't have played tomb raider. Wouldn't think it's worth my money. When you're only able to buy a couple of games of year you play the blockbusters only and miss out on the smaller gems. I'm glad MS got beat soundly. Now it looks like they are taking gaming more seriously.

Sony earned shit. They won with PS4 because Xbox One was all about DRM and Don Matrick was (?!) an asshole at the start so it was more a thing of "let's use against themselves", which is not a wrong move, so yeah

But Sony is no flower to smell. They still are fishy about online stuff, cross play, security and etc. They're more of a "show off", presenting games that are too early in development, and PS Plus still is not that great even thou they treat like it is

I spend a lot of time looking at Google Earth so I definitely want to get Flight Simulator 2020. I doubt it's even coming to Xbox One. So hopefully the Series X has a beefy enough CPU for it.

Microsoft earned the trust of their fans, unequivocally. They wouldn't have such loyalty now after such a botched launch if they hadn't.

Sure, all companies "have work to do" but I think we'll see even stronger brand loyalty this upcoming gen.

Which means that brands relying on die-hards to defect to expand their audience will get shorted.

Game Pass has evened the field.

I was a PS4 Fanboy most of this gen, i got my XBOX X summer of 2018. Did not play it hard until 2019 when i got Gamepass. Gamepass has saved me so much cash on games i would have bought, most from Sony.
Off the top of my head.

Tomb Raider,
Just Cause 4
Outer world
Cities Skylines
Hellblade
Bloodstained
Banner Saga 3

MS exclusives i loved and got for free !
Forza
Gears 4/5
Halo MCC
Crackdown 3

Forget how many indie or BC titles i have played and loved (slay the spire, frost punk, KOTOR, Bayonetta, Starwars Unleashed 2, Ori Blind forest.) that i would never have tried and have sunk over 100 hours into StS.

I will buy both eventually, but for launch its going to come down to who has the best games and how many of those would be included in gamepass.
8 months ago i would have said PS5 on Launch 100%, now i am not so sure.

I don't know.... It would take me a lot to buy back into Xbox.
Now, PlayStation... With all this PSNow push and exclusives going to PC, I certainly wouldn't describe myself as blindly loyal.
I've been rather annoyed with them and I think they should have bought some big named developers to reinforce their position as market leader.

Jim is not very personable and they got rid of a lot of cool people over thee last few years....

They better start maving in the right direction soon.

Microsoft will never win the Japanese audience but at least this time they're not trying to sell an NFL Sunday Ticket device with mandatory Kinect 2.0

MS did some steps in the right direction copying things like having more internal dev studios, a PS Now like service, a Remote Play like feature, focusing back into games and so on, and adding stuff to be more attractive than Sony with things like agressive Game Pass pricing and putting their brand new games there.

But right now Sony strategy dominates the market and MS is way behind in terms of hardware sales, game sales, 1st party game sales and services (plus other stuff like VR). MS still have to prove that they can compete against Sony because as of now they still have to improve a lot to catch them.

And I think it won't happen unless Sony makes some huge mistakes as they did in PS3 launch with bizarre alien harware (we know it isn't the case), too expensive console pricing, losing important exclusivities, not being powerful enough compared to the competition to a point that multi games look noticiably worse than in the competition's console, their exclusive games aren't appealing enough, etc,

And I'm pretty sure Sony won't make these mistakes again because we saw they fixed all in PS4 and as we know seems it's going to be the same in PS5: their 1st party games working better than ever, same PC-like architecture than the previous gen to help devs to make the jump and make BC easier, without getting details seems we'll see a noticiable next gen jump in horsepower getting something more or less similar to the compeition, until they say otherwise thanks to PS dominating the market they'll continue getting the marketing deals with the main 3rd party multi games every year, plus some 3rd party and indie exclusives and general great support, they mentioned plans to improve PS Now for the next generation, etc.

Now we need to see a few key details like final hardware specs (specially memory and teraflops to see how exactly it compares to Xbox) and console price. I think that if horsepower is at least a bit under MS (I don't know, let's say like 11+ teraflops) and price isn't too expensive (I think they shouldn't price it over $500 to be ok) they will clearly dominate the generation again. And maybe even fucking it up in some of these key areas they even may still dominate because the difference is right now too big.

Now, PlayStation... With all this PSNow push and exclusives going to PC, I certainly wouldn't describe myself as blindly loyal.
Seems MLB will go multi and the Kojima game will release on PC as Quantic Dreams and Thatgamecompany games did.

But I think internally developed games will remain PS exclusive, I don't buy that rumors. Horizon releasing this month on PC has proven to be false. TLOU2 job listing may be related to engine stuff they do at Naughty Dog sometimes even multiplatform and to be also used by other devs. References to Dreams being playable in PC in the future may be related to PS Now (where Horizon was included but last month instead of the current month).

I want to believe in Microsoft. I like Phil Spencer, I love the Xbox controller, even the design of the SeX grew on me. My experience with the Xbox One was so underwhelming that it's going to take some serious convincing for me to get the new one. That also applies to Sony to some extend, their first-party titles are really not for me, but they kind of win by default here since I have to get new hardware at some point. I'm going to need to see some games before I jump aboard on either of them.

Before even clicking on this thread I KNEW it was just a low effort console warrior post. It wasn’t an article or something.

Just some low-life fanboy who got wet eyes after seeing the 12TFLOPs and RDNA 2.0 reveal.

Seriously, there is no such thing as „loyalty“ and „trust“ in gaming. Gamers don’t give A SHIT about that.

Two things that matter most:

- PRICE
- Power

That’s it. Everything else doesn’t matter.

Sony only won because they had a console that was $100 less AND more powerful.

This gen it might actually be the other way around and YOU WILL SEE that gamers don’t give a shit about loyalty and trust, they will get what gives them the most bang for a buck. And that’s it.

Not everyone is a console warrior. Especially outside of this forum, which is like 99.9999% of ALL gamers around the globe. Those people don’t give a flying fuck about loyalty and trust.
Only hardcore gamers, who are a small percentage of all gamers.

The fact that some big titles are still coming to the PS4 almost 7 years down the line is all I need to know,
With Xbox, if youre not a fan of shooters or racing games then there is very little incentive to buy. Probably why it isnt as popular outside the US/UK.

You have 4 more months of using this argument because after E3 you're going to need something else. So may as well start brainstorming now.

What do you think the 15 new studios will be doing? Manufacturing shoes..?

PG, The Coalition, Ninja Theory, 343, Obsidian all released 80+/90+ metacritic games in the last few years. I don't see why all of a sudden things should be different.

P.S: I guess this more a reply to the usual fanboys that concern trioll h24 than to you.

Microsoft started this gen in the worst way possible, but thanks to the Xbox One X, Gamepass, the BC program, etc, it managed to win me back, and the Xbox One ended up being my most played console this gen.

Meanwhile, what did Sony do? Oh yeah, they shut down the Gravity Rush 2 servers after only 18 months (originally they were gonna do it after just 12 months) FOR THE PLAYERS, am I right? Yeah I know they fucked up other shit (like PS Plus getting worse AND more expensive) but the way they treated Gravity Rush 2 (my favorite PS exclusive this gen along with Bloodborne) is downright criminal.

So yeah, Sony didn't earn much trust from me this gen, that's for sure.

I have no loyalty to any of them to win my “trust”, all they need to do is give me the games I want, that’s all that matters to me here.

again its like all people play is Sony games. there are games other people play you know, other companies produce games ever heard of a game called Call of Duty or Fifa?

You can't seriously think that that's the only reason why the PS4 was so successful. In the beginning, maybe, but price was a huge factor then, and the reason why it has maintained its momentum is because of the fact that Sony was creating great first party exclusives that appealed to people.

Honestly, Microsoft has been more fishy about their security lately. How often is Xbox Live down?

Yes but on consoles exclusives are more important to drive sales to the system. Anybody can buy CoD or FIFA, really.

no power is what sell's and then come the exclusives. the exclusives that Sony has came much later this gen such as god of war and horizon zero dawn and also Spiderman. the beginning of the gen Microsoft had the better games but people went to the ps4 because it was more powerful

Power has never been that much of a factor in console sales, especially this generation. Notice how console sales go up in NPD when exclusives release.

By this logic, the Xbox One X would have made Xbox One catch up to PS4.

Sony lost a ton of trust during the seventh gen
PSN hack
Much weaker online situation
Weaker multi plats for the better part of the generation
PS3 was a different beast then what was revealed

It was only after the bulk of last gen Sony started to fix these multitude of issues
The hack lead to PSN plus
Xbox live created a need to improve their online, which they clearly have
Ease of development was a priority this gen, making multi plats much easier
Same with the reveal, keeping expectations online with what was delivered

The point here is competition bares innovation, renovation and creativity...

Ms this gen have
Killed the paywall for FTP games on live
Created a PSN plus type of deal
Worked tirelessly with devs after the original Indi devs issues to help with developing games
Worked hard to overcome the shortcomings with the One with the X
Created Gamepass
Worked to increase thier game library past the constant 3 (Halo, Gears, Forza)

The list goes on, I trust MS when it comes to thier commitment, after this gen I think they've earned that, same goes to Sony...

Next gen has a chance to be a crazy one with the rumored BC for both, the rumored power of PS4 (confirmed for SX) and the new bells and whistles as well :D

so why did all the people who had the 360 jump ship early this gen? no exclusive games whatsoever back then. yes when the x came out they were people swapping ps4 to the x, but Sony already had the sales.

power was the major factor in in ps4 at the beginning of this gen, look at all the digital foundry vids

Yeah OP let's all ignore

the tons and tons of free 4k updates.
Backwards compatible program.
Even xbox og games.
Elite controllers.
Gamepass
Pc&Console share in licence
crossplay
Mouse keyboard support
XCloud

If any company did a complete 180
It's microsoft. 🤣

To begin with - both are just corporatess whose sole purpose is to make money, both will bite your arm off if you lose awareness.

And if anything, I don't trust Sony at all, they are once again arrogant and anti-consumer due to their current market dominance, the "STFU we know better" attitude is the quite opposite of what I trust. The "4theplayers" and "greatness awaits" slogans are as grotesque and hypocritical as it only can get. MS on the other hand is utterly pro-consumer due to their XB1 launch fuck ups, they have no choice but to to retaliate and redeem themselves.

Created a PSN plus type of deal
Correction - both PSN and PSPlus are copies of XBL, MS was first with the ideas, PSPlus on the PS3 at the beginning didn't even offered any free games but just cloud saves and maybe some avatars/wallpapers every now and then.

PS Plus isn't worse now? Guess I must have imagined the PS3...

Also, are you talking about the first half of the generation when they were still including PS3 and PS Vita games, offering double or triple the amount of games each month compared the what they do now? The same first half of the generation where PS Plus was also cheaper? That first half of the generation?

You must live in a different reality then. Well, I'm sure in that reality the Gravity Rush 2 servers are still up and running too. Well now I'm jealous.

It’s a new generation so nothing is certain for either Sony nor MS.

Hubris has damaged both companies in the past and both are painfully aware hence both being hesitant on announcing anything about pricing.

Sony came out first this gen because they had to. PS3 was a poor performer and they were eager to move to the PS4.

MS wasn’t paying attention and committed the exact same cardinal sin with Xbox One hardware that Sony committed only one generation with PS3. Now, eager to leave this gen because they have to.

for me its all going to boil down to software, at least if either is trying to convince me to be an early adopter. I’m probably not leaving this gen if they’re only offering backward compatibility and nothing that is next gen mandatory.

For the first time in a very long time, Sony is feeling some much needed competition which I hope drives them to push their limits and like you said, make it a win-win situation for gamers.
What competition? Xbox was getting alot of good pr these last couple of years, yet it still didnt help with sales. As it is now, xbox and its fans are all about the talking.

"Yeah xbox did alot of good, they have gp and they pushed for crossplay and such. Shit I need to charge my dualshock. "
