Sony has shipped over 4 million PS3 consoles

So they only have 2 mil to go to hit that 6 mil projection by the end of March?
They've done a good job on this.

sony with great games (FF13, MGS4, Heavenly Sword, Lair, Killzone, Eight days, Drakes fortune, ratchet and clank, GT5...etc) + price cut in 2008, could easily catch up on wii and 360...

ps3 is a long term (10 years) investment strategy to have more than 50% of market share :)

What the hell? That's like the third time you've posted that exact same thing.

Viral!

WTF?
1) You haven´t played one of the games you mentioned. How do you know already that these will be great??
2) You´re an Sony insider with knowledge of a price cut? If so, please fill me in when and how much! (BTW: you think MS and Ninty are not going to reduce their price by then?)
3) Cut the company PR bull! A gaming console is everything - but not an "investment strategy" - or does it net you any income??

*shakes-head-in-disgust*

guys, lay off him. He post history clearly states he studies economics, which I know from anecdotal evidence of years gone by that he is a lost hope.

I knew this thread would attract all kinds of Sony haters but don't you think you morons have gone a little out of control with your trolling in this thread? This is like the E3 2006 days all over again.

And on that note, what's with the sudden influx of juniors lately?

But what the sense of this sort of thread if not for trolling for one side and fanboy for the other ?
And junior != troll , mister former-junior .

How about discussing sales, meeting goals, production..etc in a normal fashion?

I just mean that thread which are about numbers are mainly made for "emotional" reaction .

I disagree, they're made for people who like to discuss the financial/economic side of things and what it will mean for a company's future. This is (or at least, was) Sales-Age, afterall.

Well looking at online UK retailers, there seems to be a never-ending amount of PS3s to pre-order. Amazon has been accepting PS3 pre-orders for a couple of weeks now, and still not sold out of their launch allocation. They sold out of Wii allocation in minutes. Either no-one is interested in PS3 (unlikely in Sonyland), it's too expensive (can imagine people still pre-ordering just in cast though) or there are literally 2 million PS3s on their way to Europe.

That was an amazing satire you just typed up. I almost believed it. Thanks, I needed the laugh. You will fit in here just fine.

How many 360 units where shipped at this time last year? I think the PS3 is pulling similar numbers, which basically means nothing anyway.

How many have been sold?
That is the real question.

Has there ever been discussion of viral marketers at GAF and who might or might not be on someone's payroll? Because that guy, with his broken english and consistently repeated message is exactly the kind of thing I expect from a PR firm-paid forum poster.

You'd think virals would bother to note what the forum was like before posting. Mutilating the english language isn't going to help sell stuff to people, at least not here.

Forum analysis of that nature doesn't strike me as being very cost-effective. Would be much easier to concoct a few formulaic scripts based on the tone of general internet culture. Then pay a roomful of kids in India to endlessly surf message boards and blogs, inserting a pre-made blurb in reaction to the corresponding event as per the script. Pay a bit extra for some "advanced" literacy, and your drones could even modify the blurbs to match context.

Also, regarding language-mutilation: I suspect that on average it's going to help instead of hurt. The message gets across, and perhaps is even more accepted because it sounds more authentic, down to earth. At the very least it's a natural defense against detection of the astroturfing.

Just be careful, I recently made a comment asking if someone was a viral marketer (as a joke) and got banned instantly. It's against the rules here.

i know it's not selling in groves, but is it really that bad? i mean i don't think anyone's gonna deny that Wii's selling way better, but they've been doing a consistent 200,000 a month, and it looks like they're gonna sell out of their European shipment. so by next year, they could have close to 5 million sold, if not more.

well, I hope (for Sony) they can eventually sell all of them to customers other than retailers...

same crap people said when they shipped 2 million.

its like people think they'll never sell 4 million consoles, or 6 million.

The Fred Meyer near me in Portland, OR has had 2 PS3s sitting on the shelf for a month now.

Really? The Fred Meyer here on 82nd and Foster where I live, hasn't had any. Only four display boxes -- but those weren't even the same boxes that the PS3 comes with. They also seem to be selling a lot of games, too because the case holding all the PS3 games seems almost empty. The Wii, X360, PSP, PS2, GC, and Xbox has a full shelf. I think they have about 30 copies of FFXII alone.

EDIT: Whoa at Gerrick and Ghaleon. Small world indeed. I live in SE Portland.

PS3's in NA are going to be like copies of the E.T game soon. Sony are going to have to go bury them in the desert somewhere.

Strike 1 - not a good way to start your GAF career. Maybe a troll or maybe an attempt to be funny. Only time will tell.

oops sorry, i miss alot in the OffTopic i guess. welcome nubs.

ontopic: Having consoles in the store is never really a BAD thing, especially considering how many lost sales their competitors have had as a result of low stock

actually, it can be a bad thing. flooding the distribution channel is not something to strive for. and being in a situation where you can actually consider flooding the channel this close to launch is really not a best case scenario.

yes but sony can control things if they have enough surplus in stores they can lower the price as they see fit and create demand that way (since they are probably alot of people waiting for a price drop)

producing a surplus of units before reaping the benefits of process shrink does not a price cut make!

Honestly I don't want to backseat moderate but has any mod bothered to read the entire thread? Because I'm surprised there aren't any bans in the most embarrassing thread I've read in months.

edit: wow right after bishoptl's post. :lol

If someone were to make the same comment, about a piece of software(regardless of platform)...would that be strike-worthy as well?

Games are made fun of for bombing(many times arguably, and regardless of quality) all the time... :|

Man. This place is like eggshells lately, and it seems we're always one match away from a nuclear meltdown. Insane.

Everyday it's like being in the room with Darth Vader, one wrong move or comment, and you're up against the wall gasping for air.
