And so Rothman's reign of terror begins.

how hard is it to just copy the game

I see some reports saying that they are still hoping for their June 2016 date.... which seems aggressive optimistic or pessimitic

Eh, it was bound to be terrible whatever the direction they went. They really need to stop trying to turn games into movies. All they manage to do is shed light on how terrible the actual story and premise are.

Wait, what's the point of making a movie out of this? Uncharted is already like a playing a movie so why not just advertise that and not waste money on this?

Just use the Uncharted 4 assets and make it a CG movie like Ratchet.

This movie hinged on some kind of star power, which is why you had people like Marky Mark, Chris Pratt and Bradley Cooper attached. Stripped down to it's core and compared to other movies rather than video games, Uncharted is a pretty generic story with fairly generic characters.

How fucking hard is it to make a movie...I would consider it a bit more difficult if it was something like Microsoft or Nintendo where there would be issue over rights but...Sony is a goddamn movie company, they either don't care or don't want to make it.

Paul WS Anderson to direct.

Milla Jovovich to star at Natalie Drake.

Play up the mutated Nazi creatures angle.

It'll be a better Uncharted movie than this miserable world deserves.

They stuck an ad in front of a trailer... it's not the actual trailer.

Did you watch the whole thing? The ad is part of the trailer. Seriously, it goes from the smiling people holding up Sony devices saying "this is my world" to Alice standing on top of a building saying "this is my world".

With an attitude like that, no wonder game adaptations are shit. Fuck Rothman. Annoyed he has say with the Spider-Man reboot too.

There's no point in making a movie on this franchise

The games are basically a playable version of Indiana Jones films

So instead of a poor man's Indiana Jones movie, you end up with a poor man's Indiana Jones movie that is based on a game

Is the new direction actually making the damn thing? Cause call me crazy but I'd kind of prefer that to talking about making it for another 5 years.

Is there a downgrade for movies?

Uncharted has all the trappings of a Hollywood blockbuster and should be produced as such.

The amount of time this has been in development is kinda crazy, its not like some hugely complex narrative which could be hard to adapt. All they have to do is spend a little bit of time adapting the game into a workable script, hire a likeable actor for Drake, and pick a director who isn't complete shit. Its not like they are trying to making a movie based on House of Leaves lol

Give it to Stephen Sommers and hire a likeable attractive dude like Chris Pratt or Chris Pine as Drake.

Ah I had the sound off; it's still just an ad, but a weird hybrid ad that uses the same line as the trailer that follows it.

Even last year when Pascal was in charge Sony weren't sure if they wanted this to be a star driven franchise or whether the 'brand' could be strong enough to exist with a relative unknown in the lead.

The studio was said to be courting Mark Wahlberg and Bradley Cooper at various points and they actually went as far as to offer Chris Pratt well over $10 million to headline the franchise.

Though I'm no fan of Rothman I don't think that the idea of a more 'modest' Uncharted film is that offensive. If the studio can get an interesting director onboard with some familiarity with the series and let them do their thing it could still work as a 'Resident Evil' sized film that could build to larger sequels.

Of course, with Rothman at the helm all of that seems like a long shot now.

The studio will keep Uncharted there as a placeholder for the date and then they'll simply stick another film of theirs in its place.
