Sony is dealing with the BLOD horribly....

I contact Amazon CS, and they tell me they can send a replacement and I can ship the broken one when I'm ready (i agree), but then the same day, read that Sony is now overnighting boxes if you call in, and you get your system replaced immediately. So I called Sony, and they indeed offered me just that. (When asked why not just use Amazon, they told me that I wouldn't want to risk getting another faulty console from them...Sony, still keeping it classy....). So I agree to that and they set up a coffin shipment, then I call amazon and cancel.

Amazon still somehow sends me a new console...I literally had to turn away a new system at the door, and tell them I canceled it because Sony would take care of it just as fast...... :smileyfrustrated:

Wait, so Amazon sent you a new console and you turned it down?

Nah, shipping during this time of year is no different than any other. The big shippers do a LOT of extra stuff to make sure the extra volume flows smoothly.

As for the OP, yeah, you need to make a fuss with customer support so that you can get some free stuff out of this.

He did get free stuff

The better question is; why didn't he just go through them in the first place? They clearly were guaranteeing a faster option, and he knew it. Getting another DOA PS4 would have been a total bummer, but pretty unlikely.

Yea that's a good point. I just find it odd that the Sony rep would blame FedEx since it's a corporate thing versus person to person. Every major warehouse place has specific times for pickup and delivery for merchandize with all the different package companies so it just seems weird to me that they would keep saying it'll send out the next day but then it doesn't.

Shipping during the holidays is monstrous. The amount of packages they receive, often the entire month the holiday takes place in, is insane.

Because many people know how horrible holiday shipping is, they try and ship their packages early, but since so many people are doing that, it ironically backs up shipping. I think Sony is just stuck in a rough place, what with their console launching at the start of the holiday period.

At least they compensated the guy a game and $10 credit. It certainly sucks when consoles break, but there's not much to be done when your console breaks during the holiday period. His replacement is on the way, it's just going to take a little bit more time.

EDIT: Wait, did I just read that Amazon sent him a console that he got right away, and he turned it away? WHY would you do that? The easiest/simplest thing to do would be to accept the Amazon replacement, and then, when your replacement from Sony arrives, contact Sony and arrange to send it back to them.

So it sounds like it's out of Sony's hands. Take your problem up with FEDEX, both you and that dude whose post you used.

edit: It sucks you got a faulty PS4 though.

Sony customer service is the worst.

I probably would have just bought a new PS4 instead of having to deal with them.

Priorities - some people don't have 'em.

Seriously, it's a game console. A bad system sucks, I know - I had my 360 go down 4 times. It took averaged about two weeks for me to get the console exchanged each time ... Although, once it took almost a month.

Now, if Sony said, "We're not going to help you" -- then you've got a story.

Take a deep breath, enjoy life. You'll get your console.

Where exactly am I saying I am going crazy over not having my console? Frankly I dont care about not having it yet, its the lies that is frustrating. The customer service has been terrible.

The "Fedex is to busy" is not the response I got. I got "we dont know why it hasnt shipped out yet" today. Previously I was getting days it would come by, "Friday, Monday or Tuesday at the latest". Now I am given an eta of "We don't know"

See, this is when you ask for a tracking number. If they honestly don't know anymore, it's been sent and out of their control. Get the number so you can find out a realistic window of time to receive the system.

What I don't understand is that he did get a replacement delivered from Amazon but told the UPS guy to return it because Sony would get a console to him just as fast? That's literally impossible unless there was a FedEx truck with his Sony replacement right behind the UPS truck. Even then, Amazon would be a few seconds faster.

Maybe you should sett up a paypal so we can donate to you.

You couldnt have fucked this up any worse op. You get a replacement and send it back, and then go on the internet to complain its taking too long.

it's thanksgiving.

sony doesn't control the mail.

FedEx is a private company, not "The Mail". They hire tens of thousands of employees every year at this time of year to deal with the volume of packages.

This just sounds like a bullshit excuse some call centre manager came up with for his staff to deal with high call volume and somewhere wires got crossed in Sony's logistics and consoles weren't ready to pick up. Even in weather situations, FedEx will pick up large shipments and at least get it to their facilities so they can get it sorted and out ASAP.

Sucks when it happens, especially this time of year, but it happens pretty often really.

They arent giving tracking numbers out because they dont have them. That is another problem.

Maybe I'm being a thick Brit, but why wouldn't you have done the whole return/replace thing via Amazon if that's where you got I from? Is it normal in he US for people to contact the manufacturer about a return, rather than the retailer?

Presumably there's an equivalent of Click&Collect in the US where you just drop a package off at a local retailer, pay a refundable postage fee and your stuff gets back to Amazon without having to bother with the post office?

I have been less than pleased with Sony's technical support. I initiated the return last Monday (the 18th) after being on hold for over an hour I was finally connected to a CS rep who assured me that these problems were getting expedited and I would have a new PS4 within 5 days. I didn't receive a coffin by Wednesday so I gave them a call again (on hold again for over an hour) to see if there were any problems and they told me it was being shipped that day. I received it on Thursday and sent my PS4 out that same day. According to tracking it arrived at their service center on Friday. I finally received the confirmation email that they received it yesterday. I gave them another call yesterday (on hold again for over an hour) to see if I could get any more info and they told me that it might ship out in the next 2 to 3 days. I don't know why it would take so long, my impression was that this was a quick swap. So now I'm looking at around 2 weeks (if not longer) from the time I called Sony to the time I get a replacement PS4...not exactly my definition of expedited.

The weirdest shit is the fact that he turned down a fucking console at his doorstep.

I mean if he wanted a fast turn around, there's no faster than that a fucking console at your door. Sounds like he should have just taken the Amazon choice and stopped there.

Just making sure you know, that wasn't the OP but some story he thought would be good to quote.

This is absolutely not true. I worked for the largest industrial distributor in the country for five years, and this time of year was ALWAYS terrible.

On the contrary, instead of doing "a lot of extra stuff", normal deliveries weren't possible for us at all for thursday OR friday unless we paid an arm and a leg. As a result, everyone rushed to get things delivered by monday-wednesday, increasing volume. Anything that missed the cutoff would sit around somewhere in their distribution systems until delivered the next week. Stuff routinely got "lost" in the system and could not be tracked immediately constantly, and this was all shit that HAD to be there, not game systems.

Didn't Sony say that he was risking getting another broken PS4 that way?

The guy has had to wait a week for a new console, is pissed that they delayed the shipment because of a tornado warning, and has been given $10 PSN cash and a brand new $60 game as apology.

It's too bad Roman Polanski wasted his talents on The Pianist, because this story is far more heartbreaking.

Just had to quote this. Again. Because LOL, you crack me up man.

Probably the best post I've seen on the internet.

... I don't see the huge problem here. I mean, yeah it sucks not to have the system back right away buy it's not like you're not getting free stuff in the process. I mean shit, I had to wait 3 months to get my 360 back after RROD. And it broke again 6 months later, -and- I didn't get anything for free out of it.

I only know of one person who had no video; they walked into a Sony store and were given a new machine on the spot. I'd say that's pretty good service.

They had purchased from Amazon.

Yeah are you telling me if Sony pays for overnight shipping fedex wont ship them because they are busy?

Edit: Serious question I don't ship anything during the holidays and I am not aware of shipping practices during the holidays.

FedEx is not "busy". Its normal for us to be a little jammed up in these weeks leading up to Christmas, but if we have a pickup at a certain location, we HAVE to go and pick it up. And seeing as Sony is one of our major customers, I can assure you that a driver will not miss a pickup at their location for sure. So this is most likely Sony giving you the run-around and blaming FedEx for their inability to give you precise information on the shipping status of your console.

maybe Sony shouldn't have used Fedex?

Fedex has had problems this week. If your package was routed through Memphis and had any kind of overnight or express guarantee, they revoked it due to inclement weather or some shit. I ordered shit from Newegg last Thursday Fedex 2 day and I am still waiting on it.
