Sony is lagging behind compared to Microsoft when it comes to their controllers.

While I hands down prefer the PS4 for my gaming needs on PC due to playing alot of Platformers/Indies/Fighters/Ect that require a good Dpad. Its really embarrassing how flimsy and cheaply made the controller feels at times, and yet their competition Microsoft are constantly improving their controllers. Making small tweaks and improvements like the integrated Bluetooth in their new XboxOne S controllers, but also with their Elite controllers offering a more premium option for those willing to pay, and now Xbox Design Lab allowing you to build the unique look of your controller.

Hoping for a improved controller when they release the NEO but im not getting my hopes up.

I'm just glad they have a controller that had some consideration for human hands this generation, instead of those old Dual Shock controllers.

It ticks me off that there is no dualshock pro.

Dont know why a hardware company wont try harder. I hate my ds4. Stick input randomly goes haywire, peeled rubber, sticky r1. I got it all

It isn't that the ps4 controller is shit, its that the thumbsticks are shit. I don't have any real complaints about it beyond that, and you can remedy the issue by getting those thumbstick cover things.

Dual shock 4 is leaps and bounds better than 3 however they can certainly improve it more. Nothing beats the elite.

Exactly, yep. Thumbsticks have gotten better since whatever shipped with the console, but still.

I think it says more about the Xbox controllers that they need to revise them so much.

I use a Wii U Pro mainly after my 360 adapter gave way. I switch between that and the Steam controller (UPro is honestly superior to 360/One), but I'll have to grab a One S controller for that sweet adapter-less bluetooth.

I miss old dual shock. New dual shock is bulbous and gets uncomfortable for my classically trained hands.

Yep, my OG controller started peeling so I got some thumbstick covers. Problem solved

People comparing the DS4 to the Elite, I would certainly hope that a $150 controller feels better than a $50 controller. That said, it would be nice for Sony to come out with a DS4 elite or whatever for people that want it.

I preferred the 360 controller last generation to the Dualshock 3 but I actually feel like the Dualshock 4 is superior in terms of ergonomics and the feel of the buttons and triggers to the standard Xbox One controller.

Haven't used an Elite XBO controller yet, though that's $150 and not really a mainstream option.

Both my ds4 r1 are getting that icky sticky feeling.

Are we trying to act like there's really a significant difference between the two? They're the same controller variants from like 10 years ago, one with asymmetrical sticks the other with symmetrical and with slightly higher build qualities overall, but not enough for me to choose one or the other

The DS4 is better than any Xbox controller. Elite or no. Doesn't matter.

This is coming from a huge 360 controller fanboy. The DS4 is much better than the 360 and the One controller.

The Model-A controllers they introduced in November are so much better. The rubber doesn't wear on the sticks and the new mechanism for the triggers doesn't break like the old one and is much more sensitive.

Unless it's the GameCube (since the C stick is barely used) I can't do asymmetrical sticks anyway.

Man, my Prius looks and feels like shit compared to a Tesla Model S

The Xbox One controller is better built and all that, but man I'll take a DS4 falling apart over it any day. I'm a weirdo I guess.

I can't lie my man my man I can't lie. I own both and I haven't touched my Xbone in about a year but I fully recognize the difference in build quality between the MS and Sony controllers. DS4 was ergonomically solid at launch, but it just doesn't hold up through extensive use and feels cheap compared to the xboner. I'd love to see sony step it up soon. I'll be in for an "elite" controller on day 1.

I bought a new white DS4 a few weeks ago. The build quality is noticeably better than my old launch day controller. The triggers feel much more solid and are silent, and twisting the controller in your hands no longer makes that whole thing creak like it's going to snap into two.

I'd echo the need for thumbstick covers. Not due to wear, but for comfort. Find the edges on the default sticks dig into my thumbs. I wasn't overly fond of the DS4 before I got thumbstick covers, now it's my all time favourite pad.

This is pretty much how I feel. The only controller that I've ever had an issue with is the OG Xbox controller. Other than that. It's all been pretty great. Though if other people have problems, then their opinions should at least be heard

The Elite is the best controller I've ever used.

I like the DS4 a lot though, but I'd still use the OG X1 controller over it.

Sony just doesn't like to make money. They could easily copy what is working for MS.

Improved and expensive DS4 premium to cash in.

This.

The Elite controller not being for mainstream but doesn't excuse for carrying a very short warranty - http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=206721831&postcount=51

I'm not paying extra for a DS4 elite. At that price, the normal model should have better build quality. Word is the Xbox controller isn't doing too good on that front either.

Pet peeve. Both last gen controllers were more hardy in my experience. Of course both consoles were a lot more prone to failure...

The DS3 was amazing. Long battery life and good durability.

The DS4 analogue sticks have worn down on 2 seperate controllers. The pad feels a bit... creaky? In my hands. The poor battery from the light bar doesn't help and the rarely implimented touch pad is a waste. On the plus side Sony improved the triggers and ergonomics compared to the DS3 and the Dpad is still spot on.

I agree with you OP, plenty of room to improve.

I like the DS4 but the battery life is embarrassingly bad. I'm lucky to get 5-6 hours on a charge. It doesn't seem to last much longer than my Wii U Gamepad, and that has a damn screen on it obviously.

Anything is better than the PS3 controller though. Even the controller for the Fire TV.

I have had issues with both my launch ps4 controller and my launch Xbone controller.

The launch ps4 controller sticks peeled and i had a sticking r2

The launch xbox controller, right out of the box had a wonky right stick that kept shifting upwards during gameplay

replaced the playstation controller, cba to replace the xbox controller

I would like to be able to slap some eneloops in there instead of that built in battery. Also the battery life is shit.

I do like the speaker in there though. I wish more games leveraged that.

The battery life, sticks, weight, and feel of the plastic is fucking atrocious on the DS4. That, lack of rear USB and the OS are my only problems with the PS4. It would be perfect if they managed to fix these things.

Now that the new X1 controllers have bluetooth there's almost no reason to get a DS4 for PC gaming

sorry, but there is yet to be a Xbox controller as good as this
