Yoshida joined SCEI in 1993, and was one of the initial members in establishing the PlayStation(R) business. In February 2007, Yoshida was promoted to Senior Vice President, US Studios, SCE WWS.

"Under the leadership of Yoshida, who has proven track record in managing creative talent, SCE WWS will accelerate the software development for the PLAYSTATION(R)3 and PSP(R) (PlayStation(R) Portable) platforms and vigorously expand the gaming market."

Hopefully he can bring more PSP games out and continue to ignore the PSN.

He's basically at the top of the management chain in charge of all the games being developed in NA, everything from Resistance to Uncharted to Infamous to Syphon Filter to MLB The Show. He's been doing a great job before Phil was even in the picture, a well-deserved promotion.

I'm not questioning his promotion btw, reading his info from playstation website show he's been doing a great job. but I still wonder why we have so few ps1 downloadable games on psn. Japan has no problem at all with ps1 download.

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date.

Shu has more to do with game development than Phil did. I don't know how Phil has somehow become the be-all and end-all of all Sony game development all of a sudden, like WTF.

Me too, also Sony should expand PD so that they can develop more games more often and let Yamauchi create the RPG that he wants to create. They should also give him Killzone 2 like budget for this title.

nah. forklore is action orientated. It just didn't feel like an RPG though.

Oh WK sure isn't going to come out. Level 5 sure has a lot going on and basically put this game to the side.

;(

As if Polyphony Digital isn't big enough, what do you want like a thousand people at PD?:lol

Yamauchi wants to make an RPG?

Dude Shu is not exactly new, he's been with Playstation game development since the beginning.
But in Phil's old position of 'harm's way'.

Best of luck to Shu in his new role though, really.

He's got nothing on Phil... Phil was the only man during the meltdown of the whole afrika, 599 US dollars, giant enemy crab phase, that could hold it together.

How big is PD? And how big is Insomniac, GG and ND for comparisons sake?

And yeah, he said he wants to make an RPG, and seeing how good the GT series are, I'd be at least very interested in seeing what kind of RPG he could make.

Isn't PD bigger than Insomniac, GG and ND? ND is really only something like 90 people, Insomniac is 100+, not sure how big GG is though.

oh kotaku.. won't you ever learn?

Phil Harrison was boss of SCE Worldwide Studios. We all loved Phil. But then Phil went and became Directeur Général Délégué at Infogrames, and nobody was boss of SCE Worldwide Studios. So Sony needed a replacement. That replacement is...Shuhei Yoshida! Come on down! Yoshida's current (well...former) job was as senior vice president of product development at SCEA, so this presumably won't be too big a stretch for the man. So, welcome to the big leagues, Shuhei. You may not be a strapping, bald giant with a taste for business casual, but I'm sure we'll find different reasons to love you soon enough.

Nice, seems pretty solid for the position! Hope we get to see more of him at upcoming events, crossing my fingers that he's a nice guy like Phil as well!

Congrats to Shu for stepping up to the plate. He's basically one of the major reasons why SCEA has the highest output of retail software out of all 3 regions. He's also the one who let Jaffe and his team complete dev'ing on God of War when it wasn't look so hot during it's development.

Dear Japanese dude in charge of making PS3 games,

Please don't incorporate the new Japanese mindset when making PS3 games. We like intuitive online features and voice chat, we don't like shadow flickering or aliasing. Also please continue to pronounce it "beetah" in order to make the transition easier on us all

Love, me

As much as Phill is a great leader, give this guy a chance. We might be surprised someday.

So we made this guy into Phil, Hiro, Kutaragi and Patcher. Clearly he's a hybrid and will be better than all.
