Sony: "No concerns" about any lack of PS4 software this Holiday

It's when the biggest blockbusters usually come out, it's also when the consoles sells the most units, so there's a lot of emphasis on that period.

and it's the only time MS think they can catch up with Sony (they can't) but it's what they believe...

But you will still get both in the end, right?
It's not a given, no. I'll always consider timing, deals, and total expenses when buying a console. I've always been 1 foot in and 1 foot out of the console market.

You are going to base your purchase on a three month release window? I don't believe you.
Its really stupid to base this off the holidays.
I base it on the past two years, this holiday season, and what's on the horizon. That's why E3 is crucial. For now, the only thing Sony has on MS in my book is Bloodborne.

I found Tearaway to be incredibly boring on Vita, and I doubt it'll have mass appeal when released anyway.

The reason he used Tearaway was because well they haven't announced anything else for 2015 yet either, he's not going to mention an unannounced game like Michael Denny did with GT6 in 2013 lol.

It sounds to me that NMS is their big game for fall. So if they have some surprise(s), I'm sure Sony wouldn't think NMS as being their biggest game for the Holiday.

It doesn't say anything about No Man's Sky being their biggest game for the holiday. Are you just making things up now?

Also, just because fall is packed doesn't mean there are no games in the other seasons. Yes, I would love it if Microsoft would spread out the titles, but there are still some first party titles coming out in the first half of the year, and there's the massive third party titles that released in fall but still have juice for another two seasons, like Battlefront, COD, FIFA, ... etc.

On topic, excited to see more Uncharted. PS4 is due to arrive soon, arrrgg E3 is so far away!

just because they don't release games that interest you does not mean they are resting on their laurels.

They have already basically confirmed a worldwide simultaneous release, so a release gap won't be happening.

Source? I don't recall them saying anything about a worldwide simultaneous release.

Also, I will not believe Persona 5 is coming this year –– at least in the U.S. –– until it's physically in my hands lol.

The only thing that's been said about a worldwide, simultaneous release is the opposite by Atlus USA's PR manager himself:
I think they left out the 2015 part of that. Not simultaneous with Japan, but we do what we do as quick as we can.

Edit: Woops, was mistakenly following the Persona 5 dialogue tree.

Calling it now!

Last Guardian available in stores right now.... Good luck getting that LE....

Glad I live right near a bunch of stores that would carry stuff like this in that case.

If Halo 5 and Tomb Raider were delayed, would that change your purchase decision?

Why would they be concerned? They have loads of 3rd party AAA to be released on PS4. Exclusives selling power is overhyped.

I'm pretty sure that there won't be any exclusives announced at E3 with release date inside 2015.

I'm gonna say they have nothing for holiday. E3 won't change that. Thats just my suspicion.

I don't think they are worried because there are multiplat that will carry them through holiday, with marketing deals and some exclusives like Persona 5. Maybe put a bundle in there and drop the price.

I do believe Xbone will beat them royally in Nov and Dec in na and UK.

Even thought it sold horribly because it was over shadowed by a lot of 3rd Party games, Little Big planet 3 came out of left field during E3.

I think they might have some surprises this E3. They will have some sort of Uncharted Remaster for holiday i bet, an who knows what else they will announce.

For me Uncharted HD trilogy, Dragon Quest heroes, and Mad Max is enough for fall. I still havn't finished Bloodborne, and will be picking up The witcher 3 on tuesday. Followed by Batman, that alone will carry me into fall.

Not mentioning Killing Floor 2 for PC.

I get that impression by comparing the two's overall score cards since launch and looking forward. Second place is (obviously) out for blood, while first place comes across as sitting comfortably.

I'm happy for all of the success Sony has achieved thus far, and also happy to see them still creating value for a lot people. But overall, their performance have felt increasingly passive— as if they're still riding 2013's momentum. I'm still waiting for something new, exciting and disruptive, either in games or service.

If Halo 5 and Tomb Raider were delayed, would that change your purchase decision?
Yes. A Tomb Rider delay would definitely cause that.

Why would they be concerned?
I mean, look at the sales charts. They can stop releasing exclusives on the system and it will still end up the best selling console of the gen by a large margin.

Because sales aren't relative, you want to sell as much as possible. This console wars line of thinking is ridiculous. Especially when your parent company is bleeding red.

Sony isn't going to say they're concerned, there's nothing to gain from saying that. Really want to see what they have at e3 but I'm not expecting anything significant for the holidays.

It was 630 hours, close enough I guess?

Anyway, my original point was that I put so many hours into Bloodborne that a Bloodborne DLC would be all I need this "holiday season".

While that's a ton (like...12 hours a day on average) it's certainly not 1k+ ;)

Damn though. There's no game I could play that much within that amount of time.

Especially TR— so yes.

Have you seen the xbones releases for the year so far?

Yes. A Tomb Rider delay would definitely cause that.

Well we better get gameplay at E3 and the game better have a release date. Because as of now it just says 2015 for release.

And that's how Ratchet and clank got changed. So if Tomb Raider needs more time, we coujld see a January, February release. WHich will hurt XBox.

It may seem like a terrible move by Sony to have less games coming out by the end of this year, but I think (hope) they learned their lesson about lunching games that weren't ready. Driveclub and LBP3 had a bugs in it that hurt the overall conversation about the games, plus the whole Last Guardian debacle has made them gun shy about announcing anything too soon.
It's painful to not get Uncharted 4 this year because I was really looking forward to playing it during my vacation, but I'd rather have them make the game as great as possible than to crap it out just to meet the holiday sales.
I hope the prudence by Sony delivers quality over quantity. I'm pretty excited to see what E3 delivers for all the companies.

Fighting talk. Myself I translate it as meaning "yeah MS will probably sell more in US during holiday period but we'll probably still be ahead come end of January 2016 so we don't care as our big hitters start rolling out early 2016".

Yes. A Tomb Rider delay would definitely cause that.

Can you elaborate why it's important for Tomb Raider to release this holiday? Why does it matter if it is delayed? Why would it affect your decision. I'm honestly pretty fascinated. Like, why is it important that those titles hit this holiday?

With Tomb Raider it mostly has to do with not going up against Uncharted.

Well MS has not done that either. At least you get a wide and vast array of diverse games on the Sony platform. On Xbox you will only get things directly aimed at NA market (Shooters and Sports). PS4 has significantly more games out now and coming down the pipe than Xbox One. Plays multiplatform games better. Not to mention that Sony's first and second party stuff is still brewing and at some point we will start seeing the fruits of the wait from them. If you want new experiences, the chances are significantly higher you will find it on PS4. However, if you can afford it, get both, because there is plenty of worthwhile games on Xbox One as well.

Rememeber, only November and December count. everything else does exist. You know how MS hasn't had a single major exclusive for six months and none coming for another 3. Yeah, that doesn't matter because hey, holidays!

It's honestly baffling at this point.

I find it amusing that there is such a focus on Fall, when it's still someway out, and when that period is generally quite packed either way. Similarly there appears to be less focus on the current and up coming months, which are if anything more important for those us wanting something to play now. Luckily there's lots of big multiplatform games like Project Cars, Witcher 3, Arkham Knight etc to keep people busy, so the necessity for exclusives is diminished. Will no doubt be a similar situation in Fall.

In terms of this year's exclusives, TR is possibly my most anticipated.

I'm also considering past exclusives. As I mentioned earlier, Bloodborne puts the PS4 slightly ahead.

And just to reiterate, I've been talking about my impressions of the market and preferences from the beginning, so they're obviously not reflective of the broader image. Just in case someone else wants to express the following...

But that doesn't explain why it matters that it releases this holiday. Do you have a deadline for when you want to buy a console? Are you set on buying one this holiday?

And that's exactly why you're likely not going to get FFXV in the first half of 2016. If they were staggering release, maybe Spring 2016 for Japan. But worldwide release is going to take some time in the oven.

Might as well get comfortable with the notion of Fall 2016.

Considering the fact that the game is getting an updated demo, it's going to show at E3, and they already announced that it's going to receive a major media blowout at Gamescom a month or so after E3, I highly doubt Fall 2016 will be its release period.

There has to be at least one unannounced game revealed at E3 for this year guys. It's not the first time a game at E3 that's new came out the same year, look at LBP3.

Just the budget I set aside for my own entertainment. For example, this year it's between a console or a plane ticket.

Is there a thread to take bets on how long Sony Pictures Entertainment's interruption will be at this year's E3? I think it's been getting shorter every year, but it always seems to go on forever and completely de-hypes everything awesome up to that point.

An update to the mechanics in the demo doesn't point to a closer release date. That just means they're tweaking mechanics. E3 showing is simply a trailer, like we've seen for the past 2 years at E3. Gamescom is the true test, but I believe they're going to allow a full year of promotion.

Just trying to get you to keep your expectations in check. Been following this game for nearly a decade, and too many people get too optimistic about milestone dates.

If Fallout 4 is a Fall 2015 game (I am not saying I think it will be that is just what the rumor was) the Fall will instantaneously be crowded with too many games.
