Internet users have shared a promotional message that now appears on their PS4. It mentions that it's "the perfect time to upgrade to a PS5 console" to enjoy titles such as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, ARC Raiders, and Ghost of Yotei. It also lists highly anticipated titles such as 007 First Light, SAROS, and Nioh 3, which will be released in 2026.

Some people consider this advertising to be clever, while others find it intrusive.

It seems to be harder and harder to get people to upgrade these days. PS4 users are still a significant amount of PSN monthly active users. Hell, a recent report showed that over two million people are still using PS3 making Sony reluctant to close the PS store for them.
 
Good luck doing that while increasing prices.

And PS6 adoption will be even slower. There will be no need for PS5 users to migrate for the first few years, every game (outside of few forced exclusives) will be cross gen.

Tough poop. With games like COD, Fortnite, and Fifa its a hard ask. Especially with the cross gen games like GT7 and God of War being released all the way into 2022.

Cross gen games means, more money faster, because of the larger install base.
No cross gen games means, people need to buy a new console to play your games.

You cant have your cake and eat it too. Im guessing current and Jim era of PS leaders were more interested in the quicker profits, than long term thinking…..

People will move for GTA6 though. Also price drops would make sense in year 5-6..

From a financial/accounting/tax perspective, it is more appropriate for a company to do sales rather than a permanent price drop.
 
I can see zero reason why i'd want to downgrade from my PS4 to the PS5. It has a worse game library i have still yet to see a single game that would make me get one. Over 5 years in & it's been utter midness.

Had to check cause i thought Fifa 26 was already current gen only but no, it's still releasing on PS4 O_o

Imagine Fifa 27 being PS5 only and then GTA 6 releasing in November, also "PS5 launch exclusive" since Xbox is gone, lots of sales potential still.

How does it have a "worse game library" when PS5's library includes everything on PS4?

For a decent number of people the question must be around crossgen and how it means that big games are still coming for the hardware they already own.

It's obvious that for a lot of people the technical benefits of new hardware don't resonate with them.

Because PS4 games are not ps5 games, it's really not that hard to figure it out. Why would i buy a PS5 just to just play my ps4 games i want NEW stuff. My number 1 problem with ps5 is the game library it just has nothing at all that appeals to me i give zero shits about the AAA stuff that the west slops out, any indies it has can already be gotten elswhere meaning it has nothing i want.
 
I'll buy one and a copy of Astrobot in eight years time when they can be had on ebay for fifty quid. Until then the cheeky cunts can do one.

I was told PS5 was selling good enough.

Well, looks like Sony thinks otherwise, because this looks like a desesperation move.
 
Weird tatic specially taking into account that PS5 prices are still considered expansive in my country, even with digital version deals. If you failed to make people here migrate to PS5 here, I'm afraid thats on you.

He is not wrong. If PS5 BC had some sort of push framerate that make PS4 runs better would be a good conclusion.

PS5 can run PS4 games, thats fine. Doesn't mean they run better without patches or remasters/remake. Most of the PS4 exclusives runs like the same on PS5 (Bloodborne, Driveclube, Infamouns, The Order)...

If Sony need something to consider, maybe focus on making PS6 runs PS4/PS5 better than their counterpart or else releasing exclusives.
 
I'm still going with the PS4 Pro, years after the PS5 has since released, and apart from the odd game like Ratchet and the latest Spiderman game, there isn't a strong enough reason to get one from my perspective, even now...and for me the PS3 has the better library with - Motorstorm, Ridge Racer, Puppeteer, Spec Ops etc.....none of which are playable on PS5 (let alone 4)

I don't know how they get their numbers but I bet there are many dual users like myself. I have a PS5 at home, a PS4 at work and a PS4 in the studio. Do they consider me a PS5 or PS4 user? Both?
 
I don't trust those PS5 active playerbase because those numbers leave a LOT of countries out of their numbers.

I sure there is a world outside of US and UK, but their prefer to keep just using this metrics. I sure most of Latin America either stick with PS4 or don't even have a Playstation to begin with.

He is wrong in flatly saying PS5 has the worse game library when PS5 runs all PS4 games. He clarified he just meant PS5 had nothing that appealed to him which is fine.

But PS5 have the worse library, in comparison with PS4 and PS3, and BC is not counter prove to that because a PS4 exclusive will still be a PS4 exclusive, whatever is running on PS5 or PS6 via BC.

If you find PS5 games more appealing thats just fine. In the end of the day, the public view on this is very negative. Very less exclusives PR, means less reason to upgrade to PS5.

This doesnt seem to be far off from public opinion in my country. They used to marketing their games alot around here. But since the LoU fiasco they seem to back down heavly, with marketing limited to a few shops like Lojas Americanas. But even in there their marketing made absolute nosense with heavy pandering. For instance when Ragnarok came out people couldnt even tell what game they were looking into because they market alot of unknown uninteresting characters besides Kratos. The only reason they knew it was GoW is because they still used Atreus.
