Sony PlayStation Vita Live Stream!

Thanks everyone for joining us, hope you had as much fun watching than we had recording!
The vita is incredible, it definitely delivered over my expectations. And Uncharted is not just a good launch game, it's a good game period.
Now to get some sleep :)

I'd like to Echo Mehdi's sentiments, I had a lot of fun during the live stream. I hope to do it again soon!

The Vita has really impressed me so far, I'd like to get some hands on playing time with the machine as I was mainly behind the camera.

Anyways thanks for watching, I'm dead beat! Good night and thanks for watching.

Thanks a lot for your efforts. You guys did an amazing job.

Awesome stream fellas! Definitely helped with my decision.

Hopefully they have a decent FPS ready for NA launch but I have a feeling I won't need any games for the first few months.

Yes, a competent and pleasant little machine. Hope Sony stay on track.

Thanks for the LiveStream. Have a lot to catch up.

Quick Questions:

1. Does PS Vita support in-game soundtrack or is it like the PS3 architecture where devs would have to program it in?

2. How scratch resistant is the touch screen?

3. Are the PSvita trophies separate from PS3 trophies (provided one can use the same id for PSN on PS3 and Vita)?

Yes

I don't think anyone really wants to find out.

No, same profile, same trophy list. You're PS3 trophies show up on the vita and I'm assuming it'll be the same vice-versa.

In-game soundtracks seems to have been baked in the OS.

It looks preeeety sweet.

Besides PSP Peace Walker, wasn't Peace Walker HD for PS3 also compatible with the Vita?

Yay! Thank you.

Also @Metalmurphy: LoL, with regards to touch screen, I wonder if there would be protective covers flocking the markets when it launches in NA.

the issue with the second analog in PSP support has more to do with the how PSP devs got around that issue. it needs deeper customization to feel like a real dual analog game, instead of a digital stick, similar to how the 3DS nub acts for DS/GBA games.

like if you take Resistance Retribution, there's a control method akin to Turok's controls where the face buttons move the character and the analog nub aims. the "proper" way to map would be the face buttons on the d-pad or left stick, and the left analog on the right stick.

It certainly doesn't make PSP games control worse and letting you map the stick to anything is a great feature. I have a few digital PSP games I'm waited for the Vita to play.

Thanks mehdi_san! Awesome stream! I only wish I could've seen more, you guys seem like a really cool team. Looking forward to whatever stuff you do in the future, if I have the time to watch. :)

This confuses me. I assumed it would feel like a normal dual-stick setup. Am I incorrect?

thanks for the stream, answering our questions, and the sleep deprivation. i look forward to your next podcast.

It depends. Vita lets you assign the right analog stick to mirror one of three inputs:

-d-pad
-face buttons (X, Circle, Square, Triangle)
-left analog stick

in the stream when they played Peace Walker, they simply mapped the face buttons to the right stick. so when you move the stick right, it registers as the circle button. it's still one speed digital and limited to 8-directions. also, touching any of the face buttons will still move the camera, since all the stick does is replicate those button commands.

basically, with the Vita backwards compatibility, it can't feel like a perfect console game, but it will be better than playing it on the PSP since the analog stick will still be a digital input.

to clarify, I'm talking about playing PSP games on the Vita. Vita games on the Vita should feel like normal dual-stick games, 360 degree movement and all.
