Sony has officially announced pricing and availability for its 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo card. First shown at this year's Consumer Electronics Show alongside an 8GB version, the new 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo card will be available in July for "about $250," according to the company.

BUT ARE THEY SONY BRAND?!

lol

and yes. the guy I bought my PSP off is offering a brand new one to me for £50.

$250 = £143.

2gb cards also go for £60~ on eBay. Sandisk are actually more expensive. So how are the Sony ones fake?

bootlegs, yep.

Can you explain more? How do I spot them? I assume these are the ones going pretty cheap on eBay. But they still work right?

Most of the fake sticks are being sold through ebay, you know.

But even stores sell fake memory sticks from Lexar, Sony and SanDisk. It's not their intention, they just look SO real... You'll never notice the differences.

frys is selling these

call me stupid but I dont see any difference between the two sticks, which makes the pic kinda pointless

sandisk has pretty good customer service and i've heard they've replaced fake sticks before, so you're not totally screwed if you buy a fake one

I think the point is that the visual differences are hard to spot. If you look at the top part of the MS adapter, the blue semicircle's are slightly different. But the performance and reliability differences between the two are very large, hence vigilance is necessary when buying from places like ebay.

[edit]Also, the SanDisk logo text has tighter kerning on the fake than the real one.

The only difference I see in that pic is the number "2" on the fake is bolder(fatter) than the real one(unless its just because of the angle the pic was taken at).

Think this one is fake? Looks like it. Thing is I met him in person and he seems very nice and he actually seems to want to be friends.

Great news. The faster they get them out there, the faster they drop in price, and the faster we get 8gigs, which will also fall in price. Can't wait to pick up a 4 or 8gig for $100 or less.

I won't be the least bit surprised if 8GB cards hit < $100 by Christmas '07.

For those kids crying out "HUR HUR HUR if they're Fake!" please check CheapAssGamer.

2GBs are 91.90 at newegg.

1GBs have hit the $50 price.

So a 64MB Xbox memory card and a 1GB PS3 memory card cost the same??

Holy shit!!!

The 2GB dropped to $192 within a couple of weeks

I think one week even

So let's hope the 4GB stick drops to $150 by the end of the summer. If that happens I can see a $60 2 Gig stick and a $40 1 Gig stick being possible.

lol. 1GB sticks are still selling for £100 in Britain :lol 2Gb can be found for about £140...I don't even want to guess how much a 4Gb stick would cost

I know you can find them for about £60 but I'm just saying that some places think they can be sold for £100. Woolworths and Argos both sell them for that kind of money

any word on how these fakes perform? D:

I just recieved a 2gb memory stick today (no doubt its fake) and it works surprisingly well:

The PSP reads that it has 1959mb memory, according to the the Vrforum link above, it is tricked in that it only stores 1gb

However, I just tested it, stored 1.6gb worth of video files and all the files played back on the PSP fine.

So do the well known online retailers sell these "fake" memory sticks? I'd never even heard of this before.

Alot of them might not know they're fakes as well.

Amazon lets users sell via their Marketplace. Its bad :(

Thanks for this topic, I was due to buy one in like 48 hours!!

There is a Canadian deals forum that has a thread about fake memory sticks. I guess the fake stuff is absolutely terrible. For some people it dies in as soon as a week. The contacts are usually cheap and can fall / be peeled off too. There was this one guy ranting about how he doesn't care if it's fake, it's such a good price he couldn't pass it up. 2 weeks later, he's posting complaining about the seller not accepting his return. Funny stuff.

Just stay away from the eBay stuff if you can.
